The Māori All Blacks Rugby Team (@allblacks) are presently in Japan! It was our great pleasure to host a Community Event with the Maori All Blacks Team at Rugby School Japan! A quick reminder: Rugby School was started in the town of Rugby, England 450 years ago! In 1823, the game of Rugby was originated in Rugby School when William Webb Ellis took a ball in his arms and ran with it! So, it was with great pride and joy that Founding Principal for Rugby School Japan, Tony Darby was able to kick off the Maori All Blacks Community Event! The children attending the Rugby School Japan Summer Camp enjoyed this special treat too, alongside members of the local community! #maoriallblacks #allblacks #rugby #rugbyschooljapan #britisheducation #summercamp #communityevent #thewholepersonthewholepoint

Where do professional Rugby players come from? You probably think that the Premiership clubs and private schools provide them. But most start out at their local club. Grassroots rugby is the seedbed for rugby talent, and trust me, they don't turn up with all the skills on day one. Rugby is a sport that you grow into physically, mentally and emotionally. If the right environment exists then the players will develop and go as far as they chose. At our club we put the focus on inclusion, retention and attendance, not try’s, trophies and medals. Hearing Ben Stokes say England Cricket isn't results focused is fantastic for young sports people, although he has been wildly mis-understood. If the focus is on contribution, development and performance, then results should take care of themselves. Too many factors are out of the individual player’s control. Our coaching teams focus on contribution, development and enjoyment for the players. The players can take their contribution to the professional level or into our senior teams, it is their choice. We are proud of them all. #rugby #development #contribution #grassrootssport #englandrugby https://lnkd.in/e6_XCacq

I have to say I found today a very dark day for Rugby. Another high profile player within a matter of weeks has not being handed the sufficient ban for the referees decision & TMO decision of a red card. We can debate all day that what Farrell did warranted worse than what Sexton was given, but the reality is that is not the case. Both committed two very serious offences and both have been not handed the six match ban required. The question needs to be asked where does this leave rugby when the core values of the Sport have been ripped to shreds? Why weren't the officials given the same level of respect for doing their jobs correctly and professionally? Where does rugby go from here? How can anyone be expected to referee a game when they can be subjected to such disrespect & their decisions not adhered to. Both decisions have ruined the integrity that Rugby held over most Sports. The game has now been made a mockery of and will have a Tsunami affect in every Rugby club across the globe #rugbyunion #rugbyworldcup2023 #irishrugby #englandrugby #respect #integrity

A very disappointing day for rugby in Australia. It seems history is set to repeat itself with another Australian Super Rugby Team ceasing to exist. It is naive to think reducing the professional contracting opportunities by 20% will increase depth and competition. The NRL and AFL have 17 and 18 teams respectively, Rugby will have 4. Which code do you think juniors will steer towards? A 1/4 chance or a 1/17 or 1/18, less career opportunities will equal less depth as potential players seek certainty and better odds of making it professional. How could a governing body be ignorant to a franchise operating insolvent for multiple years? I question whether this failure of corporate governance raises more concerns for the future of professional rugby in Australia.
STATEMENT | RUGBY VICTORIA BOARD OF DIRECTORS Rugby Australia has made the heartbreaking decision to discontinue the Melbourne Rebels beyond the 2024 Super Rugby season. This decision has a significant impact on staff, families, players, fans, volunteers and elite pathways in Victoria. The hard work and dedication that has gone into the Melbourne Rebels behind the scenes over the past 14 years cannot be overstated and we extend our deepest sympathies to all during this difficult time. We must remember that the game of Rugby is built from the grassroots. It is about the people who play it, who administer it, who coach it and those who support it. Let's stand together now, more than ever, to support Victorian Rugby Union. #StrongerBindsVictoria #VicRugby #VicProud

The power of sport never ceases to amaze me. Firstly, I really hope all involved in this crash are recovering as best as they possibly can. Secondly, well done every single member of that team for responding in the way they did. Sport forges bonds, teaches teamwork and communication, as well as the ability to move into leadership in a crisis beyond what you might have previously thought possible. Both on the pitch and (crucially here) off it too. #rugby #sport #teamwork #womensports

Head Coach for Women's Rugby at Sutton & Epsom RFC, International 7s Coach Men & Women, Professional Advanced Level Coach (L3) MSc. Professional Development & Rugby Performance Coaching.
What do the top four World Sevens Series International rugby sevens sides do well? I was asked why are the top four sides the best and what do they do really well to differentiate themselves? The obvious answers are: One that they have had "time together" as full time professionals to establish a playing side with a plentiful number of reserves ready at home to cover injuries and give the squad real depth and meaningful game based training. Secondly the players are better being more talented!- But this is not actually the case across the board! They are simply a better team and more together, with a clear game model, a healthy competitive squad culture (which goes back to having time together as professionals). But what about the way they play? What differentiates them? Here are my seven simple observations! 1. They recognise the importance of defence and set the side up initially to be hard to beat. This usually means three enforcers in the midfield with a real tackle and jackal threat. They usually score first as a result of a forced opposition error. 2. They set the side up with attacking flair, always ensuring they have two playmakers, and two top pace players on each edge. 3. Vitally they are PATIENT in attack recognising that they must move the opposition defence around if they are going to breach a world class defence via creating space or a miss match. 4. They move the ball quickly away from the breakdown stessing the defence. 5. Their edge play is excellent! They understand the need to go to the edge to move the opposition defence around and they realise the edge is an opportunity to create space elsewhere on a wide pitch! As a result they play 4-8 phases without being stressed! 6. Quite simply their support running is excellent "busting a gut" to support a "break", being either ready for the off-load/pass, or to run a legal blocking line to protect the ball carrier. 7. Their Kick-off play whether kicking or receiving is excellent with a clear understanding of primary and secondary roles, to ensure a higher percentage of possession! As a result a top four side will have real clarity and confidence in how to play their game and, as a result they know they will win if they execute well! #rugbysevens #worldsevensseries #internationalsevens #topsevensrugby #sevensdevelopment

90% of people who completed our survey said that their business held fantasy sport competitions for men's sport but not for the women. Let's change that. The Guinness Women's Six Nations kicks-off THIS weekend and we've been thinking... what's the best way to get people involved and immersed with the tournament this year? Our answer... we've set up a Six Nations Fantasy Rugby League powered by Energia so YOU can get more invested, learn about the players and invite your friends, family and colleagues to get invovled too! Not to mention there will be weekly prizes to be won which include match tickets and much more! We do it for men's sport... so why not the women's too? Interestingly enough, we surveyed our audience around the concept of Fantasy Leagues and it was highlighted that the majority of businesses tend to participate in the men's versions of these but very few do the same for the women. In fact - Get involved here: https://lnkd.in/eUH2psRj

The impact of Covid-19 on both businesses and communities has indeed been profound. The pandemic has highlighted the importance of relationships over transactions, emphasizing the value of collaboration, communication, and empathy. As businesses shift from a purely transactional approach to one that values relational dynamics, they foster environments where innovation and skill development thrive. This cultural shift towards nurturing soft skills and building partnerships can lead to more resilient and sustainable business models. Similarly, communities have faced challenges that require collective action and support. The pandemic has shown that community strength lies in unity and the ability to adapt and support one another. Coordinated efforts, whether through sponsorship, partnerships, or community initiatives, can help rebuild and reinforce community bonds, making them more robust against future adversities. The example of Westaway Sausages Ltd. and Newton Abbot Rugby Club illustrates how businesses can play a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing community spirit. By investing in local institutions and activities, businesses can contribute to the social fabric and well-being of the communities they are part of. In essence, the legacy of Covid-19 could be a shift towards a more relationship-oriented approach in both business and community settings, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, resilience, and mutual support.
