Mosaic

A Friday-mosaic. Still sick. And bored. Digged into my flickr photostream and found people I love and things I like.

I added some links, a wishlist and some links to favourite spots in Stockholm.

Among them; Petite France - they've also received an award from a swedish newspaper. No surprise.

I will spend my evening drinking tea, knitting and sketching - and hoping that I will get well for tomorrows Lanternfestival.. Also would like to visit the quite new Russian store close to us: Matrjosjka. I always need pickled gherkins..

Just maybe it is time to start blog in swedish again. I don't even know If I have any foreign readers nowadays, since this has gone from being a blog about mostly knitting to a blog about - craft and life in general - especially my/our life and that is what I think it will continue to be, for me to continue blogging. Haven't decided yet.

Just det. Jag funderar på om det inte är lika bra att börjar skriva på svenska igen. Jag tror inte att jag har så värst många engelskspråkiga läsare, men det är svårt att veta. Skall tänka ett tag till. Ha en skön helg!

V and B left for Grimslätt the other day. I worked at Fryshuset's (click here for an english translation) "Sommararena" yesterday, and will work this weekend. But today, I am at home, alone - trying to get rid of my summercold and awaiting the perfect moment to do the dishes. For sure it will appear any moment now? Otherwise I will take out the knitting basket in a while. Or maybe the wheel, or the sewingmachine.

Fryshuset is a very special place, and I love the fact that we are able to have craftworkshops there all summer! Hopefully the collaboration might continue this autumn. Yesterday's theme was felt. Next wednesday the theme will be steel-wire, later this summer embroidery. The workshop is held as an open workshop where the participants comes and goes as they choose for three hours - we supply material, models, books and tools. And instrucitions of course. It is a open-ended way of working and a good way to begin. Have you been involved in open forms of craftworkshops? In which context?

One issue, often discussed is the one of age. Is it a good or a bad thing to work with certain age-groups? Or is it best with mixed groups? Mixed groups gives people a larger opportunity to get new approaches, inspiration and a new insights of people outside their own age och social group. On the other hand such an arrangement demands openness and consideration of the instructors and participants. Something that always is and should be demanded of the instructors, but can it be so of the participants? Maybe.

All I know for certain is that I think it is tremendously important in this day and time - not only to give people the opportunity to meet materials, techniques, traditions and one owns creativity; make things with ones hands, but also to meet all kinds of people - in a context where the common ground and perhaps the only common ground is the wish to learn and create.

The moment has come. Time to do the dishes.

Do visit:
My little drama
Lotta Jansdotter
Stephanie Congdon Barnes

And well, if you have not already visited or seen the WONDERFUL prints from Qualle, here is some pictures from their site. I could not help my self!

Todays inspiration!

Todays inspiration!

It is friday, and I am tired. Oh so tired. Here's todays inspiration from Flickr.

I am going to have a cup of tea, a blanket and then probably fall asleep on the sofa. Today "Last-minute fabric gifts" arrived. So far, I like it. I am not jumping up and down, as with the other two. Not yet anyway.

Tomorrow we've arranged a wool-day for the Stockholm Handweavers - (Stockholms handvävare) I suppose you could call it a guild, or an association of guilds. Since one year I am part of the committee, and this is the first of two days with a wool-theme we have planned this far. Hopefully I will be able to show you some photos tomorrow. Before I get to fall asleep on the sofa, I should probably pack all my books on wool and fibers for tomorrow.

Have a nice friday!

On the wishlist:
A subscription to one of the best magazines EVER: Selvegde.

Take a look at anaventura.com ! This is one VERY talented woman,

Todays inspiration. I am really looking forward to the papercut workshop. I am also getting more and more convinced I not only need to spend some time exploring the art of patchwork, I also really need to make some stamps.. But how?

I am indulging in some new books:

"Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted gifts"
by Joelle Hoverson

I really really like this book. It is a beautiful book, lots and lots of inspiring projects, tips and also photos by the super-talented Anna Wiliams. There is several patterns that makes me want to get to sewing right away and I know I will try some of them.

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of another book from the same series: "Last-Minute Fabric Gifts".

"Om Konsten att Trycka tyg"
by Anna Häggblom

This is a swedish book, written in swedish about the art of textile printing.
Yet another modern, graphically winning book which manages to balance the content between inspiring views over classical prints, techniques and artists, such as Viola Gråsten, Marimekko, William Morris, Josef Frank and Astrid Sampe.
I have heard from others, much more experienced people that the author might make the reader think that the process of screen-printing is much easier than it really is. On the other hand, that might de-dramatize it all - and maybe beginners like myself will be less intimidated. But then again: these eager beginners may fail hopelessly, but isn't that always the challenge and the risk of trying and conquer new skills and techniques?
...

Anyhow, I am planning a tag - or rather a series of them depicting a fox, a terrier and an oakleaf. I really would like to print something on these tags - which will be made from broadcloth. I will put these on the tweedies - should anyone want one. And on the scarfs.

I will try to get some pictures up here - showing you some of my sketches. I could use your opinions.

This was a book I stumbled over this evening, over at author Amy Karols blog angry chicken.. Maybe next month...!

So, I finally got to move my links from the old blog to this one, which I hope I am going to stick to. It´s nearly time to go pick up Valdar from daycare. Just wanted to write a line or two, wish for some crafty inspiration - which seems to have left me these past couple of days - and show you a freshly made Mosaic using this site. The picutures are not taken by me, but by talented people over at flickr. I just collected them!
