Halloween week - Neil

Hi,
Neil's turn today with an altered Tando Creative coffin with cobweb.
Love all the work on here: the colours, the stamping, the layering and the crackle. It all falls into place....
What do you think? Let us know in a comment below...

I started off with the Tando Creative Layered Coffin with Cobweb. I've done a couple of preparation steps for you to make it easier if you want to create your own.
The first job is to create a hinged lid so the coffin can be closed
Take one of the solid large pieces and the frame with the cobweb and place them side by side. Join them together using Tissue tape as shown.

I use this tape because it is thin but strong, it doesn't bulk up the side so it's easy to close.

Close it carefully and put more tissue tape on the sides wrapping it all round. This gives you a good strong hinge.

Take one of the smaller inside sections and use texture paste to cover it. (I've used a Crackle Texture) Set aside to dry.

Lastly, use one of the frames to create a template for stamping onto out of white card. Draw inside so you can see where to position your images.
Ok. Now we are ready to put everything together! (No photos for the following steps)

Take all the outer frame pieces and the top piece that you hinged and glue everything together. Paint everything black.
Choose your images for stamping. I used The Chemist plate from Tim Holtz.
Stamp the main image onto the card using the lines you drew in as a guide for placement. Mask it off and add the bottles to the bottom areas, masking off if needed to layer up. Mask the main image and stamp the background.
Colour with with Markers and I then used glossy accents to add shine to the "glass" elements. When you are happy glue it to the base and glue that to the rest of the coffin.
Stamp and cut out the sentiment "What's your Poison Sir?" onto card and cut out.
So, the inside of your coffin ends up like this

Now to finish the outside.......
Take the smaller spider on a thread from the Tando Creative grab bag of spiders (really creepy these!) Paint it black and cover with a single layer of UTEE. Stick a gem onto it and cover everything with another layer of clear UTEE and you end up with this

To finish the lid, use Black Soot Distress Ink to highlight the texture piece and glue that onto the main lid. Use glossy accents or clear UTEE to add shine to the black edges of the top. (I used UTEE but it is kind of fiddly so glossy accents would be easier)
Glue the spider to the top and you end up with this deliciously creppy, gorgeously textured piece.

Tim Holtz - The Chemist stamps
Tim Holtz - Tissue Tape
Tim Holtz - Distress Markers
Clear UTEE and Versafine embossing ink

See you soon,

Halloween week - Di

Hi,
Yes, it's this time of year again (my favourite holiday personally), and if you are one who celebrates Halloween, with friends or with your kids, this week will be very inspirational. The DT has been creating a lot of samples from cards to decorations on the Halloween theme.

We are going to start with Mrs Tando Creative, aka Di Oliver and a lovely Halloween village which she made for a class at the Craft Barn.
Stay tuned as Gio has also made one, which will be featured later this week.
Enjoy!
Here are some of the products that Di used...

I first put together the Corner Base and then using screwed up newspaper I built up the scenery base with Modroc.
I used scrap pieces of chipboard where the houses were going to go so that they lay flat on the Modroc.
This was left to dry while I decorated the houses with paints and some Halloween pieces.

Once the Modroc is dry, paint the base in greens, browns and oranges blending colours as you go until you’re happy with the result.
Glue the houses to the base and decorate the gravestones and pumpkins to finish off the scene.

A touch of metal - Di

Hi,
A special Halloween project from our guest Designer Di Oliver who used the Rectangular Panel Frame along with Halloween elements to make a beautiful Halloween display.
How gorgeous is this ?? Can't wait to read your comments.

Have a play with Cosmic Shimmer sprays and embossing powders and this is what you get...

Take one of the framed layers of the Rectangular Panel Frame and lay it over the back of the frame but don’t glue it down.
Arrange a selection of Tando Halloween pieces within the frame and carefully glue in to place.
Take away the framed layer and set aside.
Spray the base panel and all the base pieces with Cosmic Shimmer Bronze Blush
Glue the 3 framed layers together.
Once the base panel is completely dry gently stroke some embossing ink around the surface of parts of the raised parts, emboss with Cosmic Shimmer UTEC Lapis Black
Using some Treasure silver, pick up some highlights around the raised parts.
Paint the glued framed layers with black acrylic.
Randomly stroke some embossing ink over the surface and emboss with Bronze Lustre and then Lapis Black.  Then repeat again using UTEE.  Make it patchy so there are areas of plain black paint still showing.  The heated areas don’t need to be completely smooth.

Di used:
Chipboard letters to fit the frame
Treasure Gold: Silver

Oil pastels and Halloween week with Helen Chilton

Hi,
This is going to be an amazing week...

First of all because we have for this week and next week a fantastic guest designer joining us: Helen Chilton.

Many of you would know Helen for her contributions in the Craft Stamper magazine, for the bright colour schemes she uses (her blog is called "A Splash of Colour" for a reason), and some of you would have been lucky enough to have met her at the Extravaganza or during a class.

The second reason is that we are going to talk about Oil Pastels and show you different ways to use them, with simple to more advanced projects. Helen will start the week with a fantastic step by step, and once you have read it, I'm sure you will want to give it a go.

And finally, as we are in October, we thought that we would make it a Halloween week too. Now not everyone is into Halloween, even some of our  DT members, but some of you (us) are really looking forward to it each year.
It's my daughter's favourite holiday and she was asking mid-September "when will we start putting the Halloween decorations up?".
So for those who are Trick or Treating or who just enjoy Halloween samples, you are in for a treat (no pun intended).

Let's start with Helen's step by step and let us know what you think in a comment below...

************
As many of you know, I love these oil pastels: the colours are intense and you can lay down a really vivid background in a trice. Make it extra thick as I have done here, and you can scrape back into it just like Stampbord. I've chosen one of the new Lynne Perrella stamps for my image, because they have such great detail, and added a witch's hat to tie in with the Halloween theme.

Cut out a large cream tag and start colouring with oil pastels. Lay them down thickly.

Blend them together with your fingertips.

Stamp the large lady stamp in black and then use the waves on the lady and ship stamp to create a border.

Using your scraper tool, etch in highlights. You can create thick lines or very fine lines. Heat to set.

Cut out a magenta hat and draw on black stripes. Add in folds for depth.

Cut lengths of copper wire and curl round a cocktail stick for hair.

Add embellishments and layer up onto turquoise and magenta cardstock.

Helen used:
PaperArtsy: Lynne Perrella Collection 010

StazOn inkpad: Jet Black
