Christmas Flora

Christmas Flora

Hi There!

It's nearly here..... that most
wonderful time of the year, as
the song goes.

Thought we'd take a look at
some Christmas images from
the natural world.........

So to start off on our quest
for Christmas Flora, here is
Jane Castle:

"For my project this week I've chosen 'Holly & Ivy'
as I love cutting these from the garden and
decorating the house over the Christmas holidays.

This time I've decided to move away from
the traditional greens and use various blue hues
with some added sparkle.

To begin with I coloured some white card
with Distress inks, stains and PA Infusions.

This was then stamped and heat embossed
for my ivy leaves and also die cut for my
holly borders.

Next I stencilled the top left-hand corner
and the bottom right-hand corner of my card blank
using Iced Spruce and an Imagination Crafts stencil.

Grunge paste was then applied through my
 Tim Holtz stencil.

I masked off areas around the word Christmas
so as not to end up with any unwanted splodges!
( so easily done)

The stencil was removed, cleaned and replaced
to add Merry above as I found it easier
to centralise the longer word first.

The Grunge paste was then covered in
glitter whilst still wet.

The holly border was trimmed to size,
dots of Liquid Pearls in Pewter were added
for the holly berries and finally the ivy leaves
were shaped and stuck in place.

Then looking at the stencils I'd used I thought
of other ways of using everything previously
prepared for the card.

I cut some large white card tags and
came up with the following:

This had the addition of a couple of
self adhesive gems.

This one had Ranger Perfect Pearls brushed
onto the stars and I used another die from
 the same set.

The holly border was trimmed using the
corners rather than the long sides.

And finally on this one I applied the
grunge paste through the other stencil
 creating a completely different effect.

I could have done many more variations
and all of these could easily be adapted
for cards.

So for just under £25 for the 2 stencils,
the die set and the mini stamp I could
make all of this years christmas cards and
tags without getting much more out on
my bench ---- that's got to be good value!

I have now decided to make several
batches of the large tags in different
colours, place 4 different ones in a cellophane
bag and give them to my Mum's care home
to sell at their Christmas Fete."

Items Used

You have certainly started
us off on the right track
Jane.  Thank you for a
lovely idea too - those sets
should sell very well at
the Christmas Fete

3d Bloom & Texture

3d Bloom & Texture

Hi everyone

Here's a great project to while
away those winter evenings
from Helen Chilton:

This is my canvas for the 3D bloom theme
using JOFY stamps and Prima Color Bloom sprays

I didn't have any modelling paste to hand
so die cut some book paper flowers
with Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die

When the canvas had dried I painted it with
Chalk, Pixie Dust and Sugar Plum Frescos
and then spritzed a little Sunshine Color Bloom spray

Then I started stamping flowers and leaves in paint

and filled them in using mid, light and dark tones

I then added shadow and highlights to give them more definition.

I also lightly outlined the paper flowers in the background

and added a little more Sunshine spray with a paint brush

Die cut the flowers from several pages of an old book and
fix together with a brad (do that as soon as you've die cut them).
Spritz in Sunshine Spray and then dip in crystal glitter.

Scrunch them up and leave to dry

Add touches of Plumeria Color Bloom to both the flowers
and the canvas so that it all tones in

I changed the brads for copper ones and added copper ones to the top

Here's a close up view to see the details

Materials used:

Stamps:  JOFY 45

Prima Color Bloom Spray Mists: Sunshine, Plumeria
Chalk, Pixie Dust, Sugar Plum, Granny Smith, South Pacific, Haystack, Zesty Zing

Thank you Helen for taking our
minds off the cold and dark winter days

Definitely a project to bring good cheer

'Till tomorrow

Anything Goes.....Dawn Heald

Hi folks,

As we approach the end of the year,
I have given the DT a bit of time
to recharge their batteries!
I don't know how they manage to
come up with so many wonderful
projects week after week!
So I've asked them to pick a few
projects that they particularly
liked making for you.....

Here is what Dawn said -

"My altered Paper mache shoe. I wanted
to make a shoe fit for
my young daughter, Katie. She claimed
 the shoe as soon as
it arrived. I also wanted to do something
different and something with no flowers.
So here's my Butterfly Katie Shoe.

Cover shoe with Dreamweaver Pearlescent
Embossing paste. For parts
that need a lot of filling where surface
 is uneven, use white
tissue paper over it, then blend in with
 more paste. I started with
a plastic spatula then moved onto using
my fingers to smooth out.
It takes a bit of time but worth the effort.
I did it in stages and
did two layers. A tip, if paste is starting to
dry to get a really smooth
finish use a wet finger. I used a brush
 for the inside.

When dry, die cut swirls from double sided
 adhesive sheet. Stick around
the shoe. Peel top protective layer off
 and cover with Distress Glitter.

Press and lightly rub into sticky
as the particles
are larger. Brush excess off with a dry
 soft brush. Then use
a clear iridescent glitter and sprinkle over.
 This catches any tiny
patches of sticky left un-glittered. Sweep
over dry brush again to
 clean shoe of excess glitter.

Next decorate shoe with clear gems as shown.
Then cover with gloss varnish and let dry.

Stamp and emboss in silver the main butterfly
 stamp once and the
 small butterfly four times.
Paint butterflies with Turquoise and Magenta
 Mixed Media Misters and water.

Cut out.

Add to shoe as shown, along with ribbons.
Then add some more gems and pearls
coloured with Duck Egg Pro Marker.

The front bow is plain ribbon coloured
 with Promarkers and the
centre embellishment was made from a
plain ring from a children's
 magazine a long time ago.

Well I think that is every little girls
dream.....so pretty!
If you would like to have a go, here
 is what Dawn used...

Butterfly Stamp
Sizzix strip die - Curls

Thanks Dawn, a lovely project!

Ok, I'll see you tomorrow.

New Shoes Week - Pauline Wheeler

Helloooooo,

I hope this finds you all well.
I've been having a look to see where our lovely
viewers are and I see we are attracting worldwide views!!
Hello also to all our overseas viewers.  We have almost as many looking
at us from the USA as here in the UK.
Well it is lovely to see you all here.

By the way, it is that time in February again and Sandy
and I are off to the Trade Show at the weekend to see what new goodies
will be available in the next few months.  Exciting times!
(Not for my Purse, I'm sure)

Anyway, enough of that......it's New Shoes week
and I have another stunning project for you this time from Pauline.

This is what Pauline did...

Paint inside and out with Black Gesso.

Cut three strips of thin black card to
6 x 1 inch - 1 off
5 x 1 inch - 2 off

Use the Envelope Punch Board and punch all three strips in the centre
on both edges.  Round the corners of the 6 inch and one of the
5 inch strips using the corner rounder at the back of the board.
Snip the centre of the other piece using the punch.

Curl the two strips and glue the two ends to the centre.
Coat all the pieces with Glue and Seal and coat with Distress Glitter - don't cover the
centre where they will be stuck together!

Stick them all together and add a pearl in the centre.

Coat the heel with Glue and Seal and cover with glitter....

Add a strip of red adhesive tape around the edge of the shoe
and again cover with glitter.

Stick bow onto the shoe.

Wow!!!  Very pretty.

I know it's the wrong colour but it just reminds me of the
famous shoes in The Wizard of Oz!!  Ooh that film used to
scare me when I was a lot younger!

If you want to have a go, this is what Pauline used....

Paper mache shoe
Black Gesso
Glue and Seal
Distress Glitter
Pearl
Adhesive tape

So, there is today's shoe.....what do you think?
Do let us know, we love to see your comments.

See you soon,

Jane x
