Fanciful Plantation

Fanciful Plantation

Hi Everyone!

What is that phrase? ......
Another day another doleur
(no its not dollar as we all believe)

anyway, no doleur here today
grab yourself a comfy seat and
maybe a cuppa too ...........and
relax.............Claire Jackson is
with us today and she's brought
with her a super project:

"Sprinkle the jade Infusions onto a
sheet of white tissue paper and spritz lightly
with water. Don’t over spritz it as the colour
will run and you are aiming for the
lovely speckled effect.

Leave to dry or you can speed it up with a heat tool.

Repeat for the other Infusions colours

Stamp the flowers, birds and bird house images
in black permanent ink onto white tissue paper
and heat set to ensure that they don’t
smudge later on.

Paint the back of the stamped images
with white chalk finish paint and leave to dry

When the paint is dry colour the front
of the images with soft pencils

Cut or tear around the images.
To get a soft edge which will blend in
invisibly you can draw a line around the image
with a paintbrush and water and
 gently tear the paper.

Make sure the vase is clean and grease free.
You can pick something up in a charity shop
or this one was very cheap from a supermarket.

Tear the coloured tissue paper into strips
of varying lengths.

The next stage gets very sticky so it’s best
to have all of the paper prepared at the start.

Using your fingers smear collage medium
onto a small area of the vase.

Place a strip of tissue paper on top and
smear collage medium over it, gently massaging it
into the paper so that the tissue becomes translucent
and the colour remains visible.

Work around the top of the vase placing strips
of black knight and violet storms.

Vary the length that they extend downwards.

Working from the bottom up add strips of emerald
and a bit jaded so that they interlace with the strips
coming down.

Make sure there is plenty of medium to
soak in and turn the tissue translucent.

In the same manner, using the collage medium,
place the images around the vase,
posing the quirky birds in and around the bird houses.

Add white dots with the enamel accents and
touch up the bird’s eyes with a white paint pen.

Leave it to dry thoroughly so that the collage
medium seals in the tissue paper.

Use it as a decorative vase by day or
 a candle holder by night!"

Beautiful project Claire, thank you.

Love how this technique breathes new
life into a piece of glassware that has
outworn its original purpose

'Till tomorrow

Street Art

Street Art

Hi there!

Loving the theme this week
today we have Claire Jackson
with a timely canvas

"The street art theme lends itself to something
a bit more grungy and masculine and the
Seth Apter stamps are perfect for this style.

You could use this technique for a decorative canvas
but I thought it would make a good clock background.

Prime a 20x20cm canvas with snowflake paint
and punch a hole in the centre

Use texture/embossing paste through a brick wall stencil.

I put it in three main areas and left the centre clear.

Paint the canvas in chalk and buff paint.
Make sure it’s completely dry before the next step

Place the stencil back in place and tape down.
Use a stencil brush to stipple paint onto the raised areas.
I used autumn fire, blood orange, claret and
chocolate pudding to build up a brickwork effect.

Don’t forget to extend the paint onto the sides of the canvas.

Gently rub a sponge with walnut stain and
black soot Distress Ink over the brickwork
so that it catches on the edges

Stamp the words onto tissue paper in yellow paint,
outline with a black permanent pen
and paint white paint on the back.

Stamp other images in black ink and add
paint to the back of the tissue.

Tear around the images to create a soft edge.

Decide where the tissue images are to go
and paint collage medium on the canvas.
Stick the images on and add a layer of
 collage medium on top.
Gently rub with a finger so that the
medium sinks in and the tissue becomes transparent.

Add more stamping in paint and darken the
edges further with Distress Ink.

I added in a little green to lift the colours.

When it’s all dry add the clock mechanism."

Materials used:
Thank you Claire for a
great project - one for
the boys!  Tomboys even!
Who says the menfolk
are difficult to create for?

Send them here, we'll
show them how it's done!!

'till tomorrow

Collage

Collage

Hi there!

How're you doing?
Good I hope.
It's all good here

Ae you enjoying the Collage
theme as much as I am?  Some
great ideas here for sure and to
keep things going, here is a
collage from Jane Castle

When the topic of collage appeared on the DT’s list I
had a vague idea as to what I wanted to make
but decided to look up the definition in the dictionary;

Collage - a form of art in which
various materials are arranged
and glued down to a backing.

Hmmm, lets begin ---

For my base or backing I started with a small
chunky hanging  board
which was given a coat of white gesso.

The first layer was made up of a torn page
from an old dictionary,
some tissue tape and a pot of
distress collage medium in matte finish

Once the medium was dry I sprayed parts
with a mix of 50/50 Distress reinker and water.
The next layer was then added
and this time I used the vintage collage medium.

A strip of lace was added to the top.

The paper, tissue tape and lace was added to all 4 sides of the board.

I then tore some areas from a sheet of Imagination Crafts Rice paper
and added these with the vintage medium.
Paint was applied to the lace in Inky Pool
and a dry brush with some Snowflake paint was added
to the main area to tone the turquoise down slightly.

The side was stamped using a Lavinia trailing ivy stamp and peeled paint DI.

Treasure pewter was applied to the lace at the top.

Then using just the flower seeds of the Lavinia stamp
I randomly stamped the top and the lefthand side
 using Archival watering can ink

Next using this gorgeous stamp set from Carabelle Studio
I stamped the images onto waxed tissue paper in
archival inks and using clear embossing powder,
heat embossed the images.

Parts of the images were also stamped onto coloured card
ready to cut out and add to the whole images
once they were stuck on the base.

The tissue paper stamped images were coloured
on the under side using Sakura Gelly Roll pens
as I was not sure as to whether the inks would bleed
once the distress medium was applied.

I found a couple of tiny wooden flowers
which I gave a coat of embossing to
and added some Treasure gold to the edges

The sentiment was stamped onto some shrink plastic
then once shrunk stuck onto some gold card and
Treasure Gold added to the very edges to disguise the 2 layers.

I made a tassel and threaded a couple of wooden beads
and a metal jewellery spacer together
and added these to the top righthand edge

My only regret with this project is that
depending on the light it’s not always clear
that the top righthand piece of rice paper
is a bird sitting in a nest ----
but then it does make you look more closely!!!

Material List

Lovely project Jane.  Liked the dictionary
definition too

That's all for today folks.........

See you all again tomorrow
