Letter U winner and Wall of fame

Hi everyone,

Time for the winners and wall of famers.
I have learnt quite a few new words with this challenge I must say. You have been very inventive :)
Those which came back a few times were: Umbrella, Unicorn, Underwater, Upside down, Uniform...

So I asked my (now 10 year old) mini Meli for a number again... And here is what she picked.
It's Ipad to IpadMini conversation now as this is what she had for her birthday to replace her old IPod.

36 is Zeffy!

Congratulations!
Please get in touch to confirm your email address, and I will send you the code for your £ 20 voucher.

Now for the wall of famers

6 months on with all the entries that we've had, it getting difficult to keep up with who has made it to Wall of Fame or not. I do write the names down, but I think that from now on, you will see names that you have already seen.

Saturday Savers and music - Izzy

Hi,
Saturday Savers today with a little upcycled box. I love those little tea boxes we have here in Canada, I keep them all as they are easy to alter and make the perfect gift (think teacher's gift?).
This one is not for a teacher but for my daughter Melissa who took her first piano exam on her 10th birthday last Wednesday so I wanted to make something special for her. She also loves painting, which is why I have put her brushes in there.
I used Crafty Individuals stamps and the Faux Batik technique to alter the box.

before

after

Here's how I made it
Cut a piece of white cardstock the size of  your box
1-Stamp the music instruments and trebble clef with Versamark ink, add clear embossing powder and heat with the heat tool
2- Add the inks of your choice (I used Distress inks) using Cut 'n Dry foam. Then cover with a white sheet of printer paper to take the embossing powder off (Faux Batik technique)
3- This will leave just the white print of the stamped images
4- Stamp music score with Distress ink

5- Stamp music notes and words with black Versafine
6- Stamp the lady and piano with black Versafine and emboss it with clear powder
7- Glue the stamped cardstock onto your box
8- Add a bit of lace to finish off.

 Details

I used:
Crafty Individuals stamps: CI-194 and CI-366
Distress inks: Shaded Lilac and Wild Honey
Versafine ink: Onyx black

Music week - Neil

Hi,
Art Journaling today to make the week complete with alll sorts of different samples.
Neil chose to illustrate the song "Dreamers" by Jack Savoretti. If you don't know this singer, do check him out. I personally love his music too.
Here's a link to this specific song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCG9tnXxT_A
Here's Neil's page and how he made it.

I enjoy music and always have something playing in the background as I work. It's not just the melody but the lyrics too and this is one of my current favourite lines from a Jack Savoretti song "Dreamers"

I cut the word out so it was loose on the page and then I made my background using Dylusions inks and a music mask. I added some detail to the page by using the music mask with Distress Ink around the edges of the page.

I coloured the word in with Dylusions ink too, outlined it in black so it stood out and added some detail with a fine black pen.

I wrote out the rest of the verse and then I added stamping in Archival ink to add interest and finish the page.

Materials
Dylusions inks - London Blue, Pure Sunshine and Cherry Pie
Tando Creative - Music Mask
Stamps - PaperArtsy Lynn Perrella Collection 011
Archival ink - Cobalt
Distress Ink - Black Soot
Distress Marker - Black Soot
Black pen

Music week - Jane

Hi,
Something completely different but oh so pretty today: music earrings. The expression "it's music to my ears" came to mind when I saw Jane's sample. Jane used one of our music charm along with beads to make those lovely earrings.

After the extravaganza I'm all 'idea'd out' or as I like to call it 'crafter's block'. I was really struggling to come up with something for this and then lovely, lovely Elizabeth, one of the wonderful team in the shop showed me these little violins and then well...
Thank you Elizabeth for the inspiration!!

I haven't made any jewellery for a while, so this made a nice change

I left the violins plain but you could decorate them with little gems or alcohol inks if you wanted

Add some beads to finish......
Although I showed Eye Pins in the photo, I didn't actually use them!!

Materials
Violin Steam Punk Style - Antique Silver
Beads - Tiny Glass Bead Mix - Wedding Days
Beads - Designer Glass Bead Mix - Purples

Music week - Gio

Hi,
Well, Gio has done it again... even amongst the DT members, this project has been very popular and rightly so. Where does she finds the ideas, I would love to know...
This was made from one of the mini suitcases you can find in the altering section.
Can't wait to read your comments on this project.

I covered the paper-mache suitcase with paint  using PaperArtsy Fresco Finish acrylic paint Nougat. When dry, I laid the Tando Masks - Andy Skinner: 8x8 Sunburst and I sprayed some Cosmic Shimmer Mister: Bronze Blush on all sides.
Tip: I "cleaned" the stencil on a piece of music sheet, face down, with the help of a brayer.

I dried the ink with the help of the heat gun. I distressed a little bit the suitcase with some Distress Ink pad and DecoArt Traditions Artist Acrylic: Quinacridone Gold paint. I cut a piece of chipboard from Tando Creative: Music and notes , I tapped it with Versamark and I triple embossed with Cosmic Shimmer Lustre Embossing powder: Copper Bronze. I glued it to the lid of the suitcase. I cut from a piece of metal 4 circles and I created 4 new corners, that I glued to the suitcase.
I gessoed the music sheet, I stamped the image from CI-366 - Musical notes plate using Ranger Archival Ink pad: Jet Black. I cut it and glued to the inner side of the lid.
I build the vintage record player using cardstock and a piece of acetate coloured with Adirondack Alcohol ink - Pitch Black.

Music week - Karen and Sylvie

Hi,
Second day for our music week with Karen and a lovely little hanging frame using Tando Creative Printer's Tray and mask.

I love to listen to music but its just gorgeous to start my day with the Dawn Chorus outside my window!
This sets me up for the day! I have used a Tando Creative Mini Printer Tray to make a little hanging. I first painted some white card with PaperArtsy Fresco paint in Pumpkin Soup then , using the Tando Creative musical mask, stencilled with Pebeo Studio Acrylic in Red Ochre. It looked a bit too bright so I toned it down by brayering a thin coat of white gesso over the top.

This was then stuck to the backboard of the printer tray.
I used PVA glue to attach the layers of the top section of chipboard and then painted it with pumpkin.
When that was dry I added some Ranger Crackle Accents to add texture.
The pretty birds are from a new stamp set by JOFY.
These were black embossed onto card and coloured with Promarkers, fussy cut and then placed onto the printer tray with sticky pads. The words are computer generated.

------------------

Now, Sylvie's turn. She made a beautiful shaker's card with step by step instructions for you to follow. I know one little girl in my house who would love a card like this... pink... shaker's card... music... perfect for a budding musician ;). Maybe I should make one similar for her this year...
Sylvie used the Crafty Individuals stamps as well as Tando Creative music notes.

Cut a piece of thick foam or cardboard to size (12x20 cm in this case). Cut a rectangle in the centre the size of the stamp you will use. I used CI-377 here.
Cover the cardboard/foam with paper and ink the sides with Distress ink.
Stamp your image twice on white card and emboss with black embossing powder.
Cut the dancers out and glue them with foam pads or silicone glue for a 3D effect.
Leave 1 mm around when you cut them out so you can add colour with the Distress ink pad in order to match the card.
Add a few sequins or glittered punched shapes, add a aceteate rectangle making sure it is sealed on all sides.
Cover with the My Mind's Eyes paper (once you have cut a rectangle in the centre too).
Ind the edges as you have done with the other papers.
Stamp and emboss in black the Tando Creative music notes as well as the music instruments from CI-366. Cut them out and add them to the card.
- Verser quelques sequins ou paillettte ou autres dessus
Now when you shake the card, the sequins will move around.

Sylvie used
My Minds Eyes Paper Pads (Memorable- Remarkable)
Crafty Individuals stamps : CI-366 - CI-377
Distress Inks : Evergreen Bough, Worn Lipstick

Music week - Guest Designer Lina McDermott

Hi,
Hope you had a great (crafting) weekend.
Told you the other day that Lina would be back for a second week, and here she is with a beautiful, bright and fun card to illustrate our new theme this week: MUSIC!
Our DT has been very creative as you will discover throughout the week and made some fantastic samples to inspire you.

Let's start with Lina. Here's how she made her card.

When I heard that the theme for this week was to be Music I immediately thought of Andy Skinner’s Hippy Chick stencil.
I thought disco and dance and these girls are brilliant, just right for this.
To start, I used Studio multi medium matte to stick down Tim Holtz's Melange tissue wrap onto a 20x20 cm canvas board.  I didn't have the Composer tissue wrap (this would be ideal – on my shopping list of must haves…) but this is an amazing product you can tear or cut areas that you want and create great collages.

I then painted another layer of the gel medium over the top of the tissue wrap and dried this with a heat tool.  When dry, I painted a thin wash of gesso over the surface and wiped off any excess with a baby wipe so that I could still see the tissue underneath. I dried this with the heat tool.
I wanted the girls to look as though they were on a dance floor and so to create this effect I drew a grid to give the artwork depth and perspective.
I selected an area of my drawing and cut this out. I glued down pieces of black card to give a chequered floor look.   I stuck this to the canvas with double-sided tape. After I had done this I thought that an alternative to this would be to mask off areas and stipple through with paint.

My canvas now had a very monotone look to it, which I liked because the girls would be in colour and the focal point of the artwork. I sprayed the Dylusions inks through the Hippy Chick stencil onto white card and when dry I cut out the girls.

Every disco has to have a glitter ball and so I made mine from a circle cut from white card. I drew a grid and then covered it with small pieces of foil. I painted black acrylic over the top and wiped this back with a baby wipe.
The words were cut from the new Tim Holtz Block Talk die.
All that was left to do was to position everything and stick it all down.
