This weekend, Tampa was invaded by pirates! It's an annual celebration led by fictional pirate Jose Gaspar. It's Tampa's biggest party, with pirates and mermaids in Blue, a costume ball along with vendors and sponsors showcasing all of their treasures, a parade, a beauty contest, and even fireworks. It begins with a pirate ship invading Tampa Bay. Please notice the Blue water and sky. Many boats are involved.







The weather was perfect in the low-to-mid 70s with a light breeze from the north!




There are many colors represented, but I know you want to see the Blue costumes!




People take part in catching beads, watching Jose Gaspar’s ship sail in, or dressing like a pirate. Some just go out to the streets of downtown Tampa and enjoy a bustling street festival. Lots of Blue here. I did not attend the Gasparilla events, but I did watch the parade on TV.

Today, I'm showing you some art by Ivan Lovatt. It's all done with Chicken Wire! I've chosen only the Blue ones as today is Blue Monday!

Most of Lovatt's wire portraits take over a month to complete and are about one and a half times larger than life size. Somehow, he manages to twist, bend and pin the wire in such a way that his portraits end up so detailed you can actually see every hair on their head. His works have been displayed in galleries and museums all around the world. Click on this link if you wish to see more of his work.

Brr! We've had a couple of cold fronts come through sunny Florida, and the temperatures in the Tampa area have dipped down to 37°; however, we climb back into the high 60s and low 70s during the day. I hope that you stay warm.

A new ball field was recently built not too far from where we live. We drove by the other day, and we spotted this Blue fence! (If you look closely, you can see that it's actually a Blue covering tied to the chain link fence.)

Now, I know that Bloggers should always carry their cameras, but I didn't have mine.
Johnny went back on a later day with the camera and took these pictures for us.
Isn't he handy?





Here's another shot from a different angle. I really like this shade of Blue.




And here's the reason for the extra expense of adding a color: to advertise the school, of course!




I love the mural on the new clubhouse. Blue is the perfect color choice for the stars.

December was such a busy month that I didn't have time to tell you that our first-born grandchild, Lauren, graduated with honors from the University of South Florida (USF). Johnny and I are so proud. The picture below shows the three of us. Note that I have on a Blue shirt.





My daughter came to see the graduation and celebrate with two of her children--Caeli and Zachary. Here's a picture of them with Brittany, Lauren's sister. They're outside the St. Pete Times Forum where the graduation took place. Each one is showing off their Blue! Parts of the building is our color Blue.


Lauren's degree is in elementary education, and she already has a teaching position with some fortunate first graders. She's so excited!

The color for education is Blue, as you can see from Lauren's tassel. (She's holding Odi, her mini dachshund.)
