Is the Bible Difficult to Understand?

With many versions of the Bible in print, we can be thankful that there's a version that makes God's word easy to understand. Take a look at these familiar verses:

John 3:16-18 (The Message)

16-18"This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.

Adam Approves Eve's New Outfit

We know that Adam and Eve didn't dress with leaves; they used animal skins. I certainly am no fashionista. However, God doesn't look on our outward appearance; He looks at our hearts.

See you tomorrow for Blue Monday!

Take Me to Your Leader!

With the elections coming up, everyone is focusing on our would-be new leader. Let's reflect for a moment on just who is our leader. Happy Sunday!

The Blind Leading the Blind

This saying is actually from the Bible (Luke 6:39) where Jesus is teaching that we cannot judge other's actions because we are unable to see their motives. I must continue applying this lesson. Is it just me or do you have trouble with this too?

Two Reminders:
1. Today is the final day for my BOOK GIVEAWAY: Shoot the Moon by Billie Letts on my other blog Book Critiques. I shut it off at 7 PM EST. If you have not yet thrown your name in the hat, hurry up!

2. Tomorrow is Blue Monday. I'll post a little after midnight so that early birds can more easily link in.

Noah Admits His Error

So apparently Noah's best subject was not math. I got good grades in math, but I'm one of those "use it or lose it" people. I've lost it, folks! My favorite subject has always been English because of the reading. Geography was the one I struggled with the most and liked the least. What is/was your favorite subject? Your liked favorite?

BTW: Thursday I hit post number 100. Keeping with the custom of the land, I have a giveaway. If you haven't yet thrown your hat into the ring, check it out.

BTW #2: Tomorrow is Blue Monday! Remember to come and log in with Mr. Linky after you've posted.

Noah Grills Butterflies

I never liked butterflies; well, I've never liked bugs, and butterflies are just bugs with wings. I know it sounds crazy, but I swear, they fly right at me. (*shudder*)

What do you think of whenever you see a butterfly?

Beverly at How Sweet the Sound hosts a Pink Saturday. She had a terrific idea to feature something pink on her Saturday posts, and then she invited others to join her with their own pink items. I just participated for the first time this past Saturday, and it was fun.

My favorite color is blue. So, I thought, "why not have a Blue Monday?"

Every Monday, I'll have a blue post, starting tomorrow, and I'd like to invite you to participate. All you need do is:

1. Post about something blue on your blog. It can be pretty, ugly, funny, old, or new as long as it's blue.

2. Drag the Blue Monday button from here, and place it on your blog.

3. Return here and leave your URL (blog link, or address to your blog) in the comment area. (I will have a Mr. Linky installed.)

4.
Visit other blue participants by simply clicking on their links.

Sound like fun? Gather up your blue items and we'll play together.

Noah Leads Sunday Service

I love Reverend Fun cartoons, don't you?

This would never might happen where I worship as my church is a contemporary one, so we sing a good song like Our God Reigns. Okay, okay, forgive the old gal with swiss cheese for a brain! We sing it. We sing it!

What is Worship?

I use Open Windows for my daily devotions. Each day has a Bible verse, a short real life application, and a sentence prayer. Because it's brief, I find it a convenient tool and have used it for many years. The contributors are various pastors, professors, and individual people from all walks of life.

This past Friday, Marvin Nail discussed worship. "Worship designed to stir our excitement and make us feel good seems to miss the point. Instead, worship should fill us with awe that God permits us to come into His presence," I like that!

My all-time favorite definition for worship follows:

To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God. All this is gathered up in that emotion which most cleanses us from selfishness because it is the most selfless of all emotions--adoration. William Temple

How would you define worship?

Tomorrow as requested, my all-time favorite worship song.

Made it: One Half A Century!

A wedding is an event, but a marriage is an achievement. - Unknown
At 1:20 pm, Monday, July 7, 1958, a scared young couple took blood tests and said "I do," never realizing how quickly the years would pass. They had only known each other for two months and four days! Everyone said that it'd never last! But they were in love, and they knew better.

Now, fifty years later, some still have a hard time understanding why this marriage has lasted. Here are several reasons:

1. Their home is Christ-centered. At age twenty-seven, the husband accepted Jesus as his savior, and two years later, at age twenty-six, the wife made that same commitment. They brought their two children up in the ways of God; they attended church. Grace before meals was a given--still is. Family devotions were held each evening at 7:00. The Bible became the book of guidance.

2. The couple are best friends. Every Friday night was Date Night. There were lean years when they couldn't afford a night out, so they would simply walk the mall. They'd get a babysitter or pay the oldest child a small amount. They know one another. You can ask one an opinion question, and the other will know the answer. However, they are not carbon copies! There is an occasional squabble. But underneath, the foundation of love exists.

3. They respect each other. Years ago, they made a promise to not make jokes at the other's expense or speak badly about the other in public.

4. There is trust. Neither have ever played the jealousy game.

5. They laughed. They sang. They even used to dance! They enjoyed their life together.

6. They believe in the word, "commitment." They made a deal. They said, "I do," and when things got tough, they still DID.

Today, fifty years later, they celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary!

My Small Group

Let me tell you about my small group. I belong to the BEST small group at my church! It consists of adult men and women, married and single, who meet on a regular basis to study the Bible and share prayer requests. Our group of about fifteen has been together for around ten years. Some folks have moved out of state, but our number remains the same as new people continue to be added. The nicest compliment is when a new person or couple decide to become a part of "US" and make a return visit. This just happened again during our last meeting.

Our meetings take place in individual homes. Several in the group volunteer their houses on a regular basis.

One person keeps up with celebrations such as birthdays and anniversaries with a card from the group. It's a source of pleasure when a card comes through the mail demonstrating group love. Whenever anyone in our group is in need, help is rained down upon them--in prayer and in more tangible ways.

We always begin with food; isn't that the BEST way to begin? One lady is the coordinator, and she does an excellent job of asking for volunteers to bring whatever fancys them. We tend to have fruit, cheese and crackers, and desserts, although we have had corned beef and cabbage for Saint Patrick's Day. Everyone takes part; no one is overloaded. The host/hostess provides the coffee, paper goods, and cuttlery. Everyone sets up the goodies and all pitch in to clean up. We've never run short of good things to eat because my group is truly a generous group.

Then we have our Bible study. It usually applies to our lives and how we can better serve God. We read the Bible, have a few questions and illustrations, and discuss it. Oftentimes, someone will make the remark "I needed that!"

We have fabulous discussions; anyone who wants to sit quietly may, although I've yet to see that happen! Even a first-time visitor will share; it's amazing. The acceptance that my group presents is something to experience. All are welcome; no one ever seems to feel uncomfortable.

We end with prayer requests. One person types the list up and makes enough copies so that everyone has one. We work down the list and update previous prayer requests. This keeps all informed as to the happy/not-so-happy experiences. The main idea of the list is so that each person can carry it with him/her and pray on a daily basis. We have seen many things that cause us to praise God for His goodness because of this prayer list. Finally, one person leads us in prayer.

Then, we linger as long as we like. Some need to leave and do so; some choose to remain and visit.

Do you attend a small group? Is it like mine?
