Using Pretty Saucers

Finding pretty saucers at the thrift store
for 10¢ to 25¢ is easy.
There are so many ways to use them.

1. A Catch-all plate for jewelry.
2. A small plate for snacks or cocktail party
    plates...so much better than paper.
3. A coaster for drinks.
4. Use them with mismatched cups.
5. A row of them down the center of a table
topped with jars filled with flowers or
    votive candles.
6. A base for a fat candle.
7. A base for a chandelier's lights (you'll need
to drill a hole in the center for this project).
8. A soap dish
9. A saucer for a small potted plant.
10. Add a little seasonal color to a candle
     stand, as I've done here.
The red Spode saucers from my dish set
look pretty for Valentine's Day or Christmas.
The Longaberger wrought iron candle stand
 without the colorful saucers.
Three mix-match saucers trio in red, white,
and blue for summer.
You may already have a random collection
of saucers. Enjoy using them.

Cheers!

3-Tier Galvanized Tray w Blue Cups

This 3-tier galvanized tray has become
a harbinger of the coming seasons.

It needed a quick change after I removed the
Valentine mugs last month. A new vignette
before I decorated for the Spring holidays;
St. Patrick's Day and Easter.
I gathered lots of my blue and white tea
cups in assorted patterns and piled them on.
My thrifted set of espresso cups fit on top.
Quick change!

Cheers!

My $3.00 Garage Sale Finds

How $3.00 can make you happy.
The annual Cooper City Neighborhood
Garage Sale was on last weekend's
list of activities and places to go.
A beautiful day to walk the grounds and see
what might need a new home with moi'. I
found this cranberry red tea pot for $1.00!!
It's also a cute coffee pot.
I can make coffee using a filter cone
top and the drip method. I don't have to
tell you how many holidays this little
ceramic pot will see.
The same vendor also had this stack of 8
dishes for $2.00!! Because he was a man he
neglected to point out how perfectly they
matched my newly purchased tea pot and
what a lovely table setting they would make
 for lunch, brunch or tea...but
I figured that out right away.
Now in the back of my mind I thought the
color would match a set of Longaberger
mugs I have and I was right.
You can just imagine the joy!
The ivory background on the plates works
with my Longaberger ivory pottery.
So it keeps getting better.
 Now for that mix-and-match look,
I used my red transferware. Better still!
So these 8 plates for $2.00 have
completely expanded my plate "wardrobe".
I have 4 of these mugs and one or two
red Longaberger plates to mix in.
You'll be seeing them again in July when
I do the Americana color scheme.
But I just had to play with them a bit before
putting them in my dish cupboard
HERE and HERE.
This is the brand on the bottom of the dishes.
I haven't Googled it yet, but I like that it's
an American company in Beaver Falls, PA.
Sounds like a nice town. I'm sure someone
enjoyed a nice piece of homemade apple pie
on one of these plates. :)

Cheers!

All Set For Valentine's

First let me say how much I love my
Emma Bridgewater pink hearts tea pot.
Love.
I'm also using my red/pink transfer ware.
Sometimes I use this set or this way.
No more "Please pass the salt and pepper
when everyone has their own at each place.
I made them re-using those mini jam jars
you get in restaurants with your breakfast.
Doesn't everyone save those?
Table for the two of us.
I added the framed printable plus more
 red accessories and plates.
Now the yellow and blue seat cushions
would't do, so I covered them with a red
checked pillowcase and white matlesse'
pillow shams. It's a quick fix for me
(sewing challenged).
I do this at Christmas and 4th of July too.
You can see the before (no tea set) and after
(with tea set). I love tea sets.
I love to use a different tea pot and mugs.
It keeps afternoon tea fun and happy.
This little trio heart basket
was a rescue.
I can either hang it on a wall or just
pop it on a shelf or table.
This set always puts a smile on my face.
It's a gift that keeps on giving.
Looking for a yummy dinner?
Try Chicken in Lemon Cream Sauce.

Love!

Thrifting at Faith Farm Ministries

I was a day late for the latest sale at my
favorite thrift store, but how could I
resist such a lovely email invitation.
Dear Rita,

Thank you for being a valued VIP and for supporting our ministry.  Your support saves lives!

I usually go first thing on Friday morning
when they are fully loaded. Moseying in
late Saturday morning I hoped I'd still
find a few things on my "Thrifting List"
Let's see....the usual suspects: dishes, mugs,
bowls, oh, and maybe a couple of pieces of
flatware I could leave in our van for our
Amefa Stainless Flatware from Holland-Vintage. 12¢ each
road trips and new adventure -
beach camping.
Handmade pottery mug- 50¢
Crazy blue pottery mug to add to my
miss-matched blue and white mugs when
displayed on the mug rack.
Valentine's Day mug- 50¢
Another Valentine's mug to add to the
V collection. I gave a few to my daughter
 Kim...so I needed more.
38pc set vintage English Churchill china- $17.50
 Blue and white English Churchill
Staffordshire China in the vintage
Finlandia pattern.
It's 6 place settings plus a few extras.
Everything was half price for the sale.
Pfaltzgraff Sommersby Salad Plates
8 salad/dessert plates for 50¢ with
a cheery strawberry pattern and a
blue edge to perfectly coordinate with
  all my blue dishes.
It's like a scarf but for dishes~
a nice seasonal accent.
Saucers 25¢
Misc saucers, 2 white ones for cups I have
and 2 just because they are pretty.
I'll use the pretty ones for fat candles,
or jewelry plates, or a soap dish, or...
Cast Iron pan $4, Pastry Cutter 25¢
An oval cast iron pan. I can see a steak
sizzling on it now, or a grilled sandwich.
Two rattan trays I'll use as placemats or
in the van for beach camping.
I took a close up of the flatware
pattern to keep on my phone. I liked
them more when I got home. Doesn't
that happen often? I'll add those to
the Thrifting List on my phone.
The dishes were unpacked and loaded
into the dishwasher, the cast iron
was scrubbed and oiled, the trays were
scrubbed, and all was right in my world.
Grand total $30.
When you feel good about every penny
 you spend.

Cheers!
