The Kitchen Blues

More blue and white
I filled the  chicken feeder dish rack with a
mix of extra blue and white plates.
An inverted clay pot on a saucer
is my kitchen string dispenser.
Sugar & Flour in
my thrifted picnic basket.
A white spray painted caddy holds oils,
vinegar, and a few thrifted crocheted
pot holders. A ceramic tea pot spoon
rest sits next to the stove.
There are only a few brownies left!
Time to bake another batch.
The picket fence tote holds breadboards
on the end of the island.
The Longaberger basket tray is used to
carry food and beverages out to the patio.
Tiled tray from HomeGoods years ago.
The batter bowl gets used most days
 for either pancakes or brownies.
What's for dinner?

Adding Beadboard to Cabinets and Backsplash

We've made a big change in our kitchen!
I love beadboard. I love it's cottagey look.
I have wanted to add more of it to my kitchen.
Up until now I couldn't get beadboard on the
back of my open cabinet because it's
thickness would interfere with the width of
the shelves and the center support.
Problem solved!
I finally got the look I was after using
beadboard wallpaper
I found it at Lowe's for $19.
Here's the inside back of the cabinet done.
Time to make a batch of my brownies
before we tackle the backsplash.
We wanted the backsplash part to be
removable and not ruin the tile.
We used a thin piece wood we had
from another project and cut it to size.
We cut out holes for the outlets.
We could then easily apply the wallpaper
and paint it before installing it..
We painted it, as well as the cabinet backs
with 2 light coats of BM Cloud White.
It was the same paint we used on the
big salvaged cabinet project under ou bar
counter, (HERE).  We just pressed the
beadboard covered wood sheet into place
under the cabinet. It was a snug fit and
didn't require any glue. Again, we wanted to
be able to remove it if needed in the future.
To finish off the ends and give the piece the
look of a piece of furniture, we added
brackets. Larry attached them at the
top from inside the cabinet. It further
helped to hold the backsplash firmly in
place. A small piece of molding
was added to the bottom
of the bracket to finish the edge.
Here it is finished waiting for the painted
outlet covers to dry before adding. The
beadboard pattern continues from inside
 the cabinet down the backsplash.
Bringing a few of my white and green pieces
onto the counter for March. The green
bottles are filled with oils and vinegar.
A green bunny platter on a plate rack
looks great against the white beadboard.
The dishes for March are
Portmeirion Botanic Garden.
Here's a close-up of the back.
We have real beadboard in other areas
of the kitchen and this looks just like it.
We are very happy with how it turned out.
We just needed to buy the paper and the
two brackets and still have paper left over
for another another small project.
This backsplash and cabinet lining will
work with all of my holiday and
seasonal dish changes.
It lightens up the kitchen too.
 The March look.
We left the two small cuphooks under
the cabinet for all my signs.
This one is 'Happy St. Patrick's Day'.

Cheers!

Antique Wicker Makeover

My antique wicker needed to find a place
inside my house.
I had been storing it in the garage.
To make room for it something had to go.
I sold the sectional sofa on craigslist.
It was moved in here 'temporarily'.
It's been in 4 homes over 30 years
and reupholstered. This small sitting area
in my bedroom was the perfect spot
 for the wicker furniture.
I love antique wicker and have collected
a few pieces over the years.

after-bedside table
I made the mistake of putting it outside on
the covered patio when we first moved to
Florida. It looked great for a while but
tropical weather is not kind to natural wicker.
It was ruined and needed  major repairs.

I bought the sofa and rocker in 1989
at the Kane County Flea Market.
We gave everything a rescue.
after
We cleaned it, glued it and painted it.
Sometimes I use this wicker hamper,
(a bulk trash rescue painted white) as
a side table. It's filled with bedroom
Christmas greenery.
The wood trunk is filled with more
Christmas things for the bedroom.
I found this small child's table in Dallas.
The owner had an old black and white photo
of it with two little girls having a tea party.

Here it all is!

This antique wicker sewing stand has always
been inside.
I did paint the gold-framed garage
sale mirror white.

I always bring a glass of water with me to
bed at night. It fits into this Longaberger
round pencil basket. Wood makes a great
natural insulator
The blue sign that's used in the guest room
at Christmas goes in here the rest of the year
.....and to all a goodnight. (See that HERE.)

*The blue throw (just tucked in) on the sofa
cushions and pillow sham were from Marshalls.
The chair cushion has a square tablecloth by
Ralph Lauren ticked in. Also from Marshalls
