A Little Romance

http://widopublishing.com/west-of-paradise-by-marcy-hatch/

Katherine Kennedy has it all; she’s beautiful, she’s wealthy, and she’s engaged to the perfect man: Antonio D'Salvatore. There’s just one problem. She can’t marry him. Worse yet, she has no idea why. All she knows is there is suddenly nothing she wants, not Antonio, or any of the other hundred thousand things money can buy.

Jack McCabe comes home from the war with a pretty medal and a lot of ugly pictures in his head. He has little in the way of possessions, less in the way of wealth, nowhere to go and no one to go anywhere with. All he has is a vague sense of discontent, a restlessness that will not abate.

Separately, they are drawn to Paradise Tours on the privately owned Cristobel Island. There they meet Louis Cade, a man who offers them the unimaginable, something neither can quite believe until they actually find themselves over 125 years in the past, 1881 to be exact.

For Jack McCabe it’s the adventure he always dreamed of – until he meets a beautiful but deadly train robber. Katherine can't believe an ignorant bounty hunter has mistaken her for a criminal – until she sees the picture, which looks exactly like her.

Neither of them can imagine how the past has a way of catching up with the present.

Another funeral and A little romance...

Well, I'll be honest, things are not going very well here in vacationland (aka Maine). My wonderful awesome RAV4 finally bit the dust and there is no hope for resurrection. In fact, my mechanic said I should only drive it one of two places: home or the junkyard. He also said it was dangerous to drive and explained some of the exciting things that could happen if I hit a bump (of which there are many around here). Like, things let go of the rust they're holding on to and the car just slides off to the left into oncoming traffic (Whee!) or slides off to the right into a ditch (Whee!) or a tree (more Whee!). Note he didn't say unsafe, he said dangerous. And when your mechanic says dangerous you usually listen. Unless you're idiot.

Anyway. This delightful turn of events leaves me sans automobile which means I will be either walking (a mere hour) or riding my bike (up a total four effing hills) to work for the foreseeable future as there is zero cash in the budget for a car payment, and the only money I have saved is for fuel this winter. I'm feeling pretty fucked right now and that makes me a tad sarcastic, in case you didn't notice.

So, good-bye RAV4, thanks for being a great car, and hello walking to work. Yay.

But now for the good stuff: a little romance...

Sadly this is not my story (I wish!), but rather my son's. He started work at a new place a few months ago and has had his eye on this girl who works in another building and who he doesn't see much. Yesterday he left some wildflowers in her car at lunchtime. When he left work he noticed the flowers were hanging from her mirror. The son was happy he didn't see them lying on the ground.

Now we wonder, what will happen?

Will the girl guess he put the flowers in her car? Will she think it was someone else? Will she be looking around at work today at all the guys, trying to figure out, which one was it? And who does she want it to be?

Isn't it exciting?!!!

I'll keep you posted on this intriguing slice of my life and we can all live vicariously through my son. Isn't he sweet?

Love, Romance, and History

Like many writers, I started reading early, and soon read far beyond my grade level (I was reading Reader's Digest Condensed Books at age 10 in front of the fireplace *sigh* those were the days). When I hit high school I didn't read as much, but I did start writing (short stories mostly) thanks to some very cool English teachers: Mr. Wallace (at Norwell High School), Mr. Elliott, and Mr. Bouchard (both at Chatham High School), but it was love, romance, and history, which led to my first attempts at writing a novel.

Shall I tell you what books first inspired me (me the one who told you on Monday how I'm not exactly the most romantic person in the world)? Go ahead and laugh but I might not be published if not for these books:

Sweet Savage Love by Rosemary Rogers
Shanna by Kathleen Woodiwiss
Surrender by Amanda Quick
A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Devereaux

I also might not have a BA in History because it was my fascination with the historical aspect of Sweet Savage Love that led me to get my get my degree. Maybe I should thank Rosemary Rogers!

Anyway. What the heck am I telling you any of this for? I guess because even though I write and read mostly scifi/fantasy/paranormal, I still love a good romance (The Caged Graves, for example) and it was that which led me to write West of Paradise, my first book, which is due out at the end of March (yes, this March!!!).

Soon I will have a cover for you and more news but in the meantime check out my progress on my YA Paranormal, PEACE AND FORGIVENESS. Is my muse awesome or what?!

Lastly, my publisher wants me to find some authors and book bloggers willing to review my book in advance of publication and if you would like to do this, I would be  immensely grateful. And yes, I do want an honest review and you will not hurt my feelings (much) if you don't like it :)
