Dinner's On!

If you have not the favor of writing down the recipes your family loves, now would be a perfect time to do so! Go one step further as you  see here from Michelle and create a family  recipe book.  Your family will  love you that much more!

Cookbooking is something that really captures family life. Back in NJ, we would get together with my side of family around holidays, birthdays and for Summer BBQs. Since coming to Newfoundland, we get together for "Family Dinner" which can vary from almost every Sunday to once a month. I wanted to capture my turn, "Mexican Themed". This page is the 1st page in a series; back in August you may have seen the next page on If It's Groovy's Junk Drawer Challenge: Titled "Making Guacamole", for my Family Dinner page I used Making Memories Epoxy Alphas & Close to my Heart Atomic Caps/Lower Alpha Stamp Set inked with Barn Red. Cropped all my photos in tight and fussy cut the finished chili picture. I used all the papers from a pad by GCD Studios with the exception of White Cardstock. I used the From the Kitchen Cricut cartridge to make my pot/crockpot shaped journaling menu on the cardstock.

Cooking with Michelle

I am pleased to show you another lo this month made by Michelle where her family is cooking together. These make awesome gifts for others when you include a recipe. Hoping you will consider doing one for a member of your family. It is so important to write down the recipes for those who will want them one day :)

This layout was just another part of the family Christmas Cookie Making Extravaganza. Since I started this layout and kept waiting for the hand-written recipe from my mom. The other half of my planned page somehow got lost. The funny thing is that I keep a 3-ring binder with all my works in progress pages. So, for this page I had to make changes in the previous planned layout. I had a cute plan that the first page of the layout would show the three workers busy working. While on the second page I would include the recipe and pics of my mom. My mom, who was on a break since she got side tracked by her granddaughter. I of course was the photographer and missing in the pictures. But again it is always the way!

For the layout I used solid Cranberry cardstock, which got trimmed down in the new plan. So, that I could include the recipe slot with another piece of patterned paper. Cut out the title with the Cricut and sanded the edges to show the white core of the tan cardstock. Tied a silver ribbon to each beginning letter, since you use Hersey's Kisses in the recipe. Matted all photos but the one placed cock-eyed.

Pass the Sauerkraut Cookie Please!

I am so glad Michelle is bringing us a cookbooking layout today! It has been awhile since we have seen one here on IIG...which tells me a lot of people are going out for dinner. Hmm? I know in my house I would rather go out since everyone has such diverse tastes, but a family cookbook is truly a special scrapbook to have. Let us know if you have one! We would love to see it too!!!

From Michelle:
Every year growing up we would do the Christmas Cookie Making Extravaganza. Since over the years the Cousin's grew up and had their own families. The number decreased at the Christmas table and so did the Cookie Making Extravaganza. This was my daughter's 1st Christmas, so we got who we could together and headed for Mom's. In the pictures we have my sister, my cousin's daughter, and my daughter. My mom and I of course, picture takers are missing!

This was a Page Half Done(PHD) for 2 years now! It was time to sort through Grandma's Recipe files. Since Grandma was always busy in the kitchen and a great cook and baker. Her recipes files consisted of recipe boxes & binders including recipes from heritage, an exchange club, magazine clippings & every side panel, packaging, etc. that had a recipe. I came across a recipe called Sauerkraut Cake, doesn't sound appealing.....wonder if she made it? And if she did, did she tell whoever what was in it? Got to find that out?

So what's on my page: Ivory Cardstock (matting and lettering-cut from Sizzix), paper from an Christmas bundle maker unknown. Jolee's by You - bowl/spoon dimensional stickers. A vintage(it's from the 70's) Quaker Oats "Famous Oatmeal Cookies" recipe with the offer of a cookie jar.

SMoooooooooCHes!!!

I love the phrase Kiss the Cook! Don't you? Who doesn't love a sloppy baby kiss, a funny crazy neice kiss(like this one), etc etc???

My challenge to you for this month is to create a sign to hang on your fridge like I did with this one and put a pic on there of someone kissing the cook :) I inserted a magnet behind the layers of paper and used one of magnets from the fridge to hold this pic in place, that way I can remove the picture and add a recipe card if I want to.

Let's see what you come up with!
