Siskins Simply Siskins

Design - "Six Mittens in a Row" - Heart Mittens
Designer - SamSarah Design Studio
Fabric - 28 count R & R Dark Cappuccino
Fibers - Crescent Colours - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 20 February 2012
Completed - 2 March 2012

Once again, not many photos to share.

I've put up a third feeder because of the number of Pine Siskins.

I'm seeing a dozen or more in the morning.

These photos do not begin to do justice with the number of birds.

See the squirrel in the upper right of the photo?

This guy

Looking

Still looking

Closer

Grabbing

Got it!

I don't think I've ever seen a squirrel eating a Douglas fir cone.

But there you go!

Got it in its mitts

Eating happily

Up in the Sky

Design - "P is for Pear" (Baubles)
Designer - SamSarah
Fabric - 28 count Newport Red/Natural Zweigart
Fibers - WDW and GAST
Started - 5 October 2010
Completed - 8 October 2010

It's September.
Birds are on the move.

Terrible photos I know.

This is a group of five Western Bluebirds.

I saw and heard them, and the Merlin app confirmed what I'd heard.

Later on a s mall group of duck flew overhead.

No idea of the species.
Lots of birds on the move.
Recently I've heard a Yellow Warbler (leaving the area).
I now have a Fox Sparrow singing away in the morning (new fall arrival).
Keep watching and listening!

Random birds...

Band-tailed Pigeons are amazing acrobats.

Group photo

A rather ratty looking Steller's Jay

Molting is further along with this bird - better looking.

I don't have many American Goldfinches - but here's a nice pair.

I'm Late I'm Late

I thought I'd show off "V is for Violets" without the JABC buttons...

...and with the JABC buttons

Design - "V is for Violet" (Baubles)

Fabric - 28 count Newport Red/Natural Zweigart linen
Fibers - GAST & WDW -2 strands over 2 threads

I can count on Juncos.

When there are no other birds around

There are Juncos singing

And watching this way

And that way.

There's often a Chickadee or two as well.

A Crow

Design - "First Day of Spring"
Designer - Sam Sarah Designs
Fabric - 32 count Natural Light linen
Fibers - Crescent Colours & DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 23 March 2014
Completed - 23 March 2014

I do not often have crows.

But this guy showed up all by himself.

Crows are BIG birds, so lots of people think they have ravens.

But though the bird is big, it is not nearly big enough.

And there is no "ruff" of feathers on its chest.

This guy appeared to have a gimpy leg.

Not putting any weight on it.

Little Woodpecker Big Woodpecker

Design - "V is for Violet"

A male Downy Woodpecker

The smallest of the woodpeckers I see here.

Look how high up the feet are gripping. Much of the weight of the bird rests below.

A male Northern Red-shafted Flicker.

See its tongue?

Only the Pileated Woodpecker is bigger.

Spring is coming!
