Good to see a small Downy Woodpecker.

They can cling upside down with ease.

I've gone several days without any sighting, so I'm glad there are still some around.

This photo illustrates why I use binoculars to look in the brush.
Left to right: Male House Finch, Fox Sparrow, and male Lesser Goldfinch.

Two female House Finches.  They're about the same color as the branches they are resting on.

Humble Gratitude

I brought this stitch out of the archives as I thought the sentiment was extremely fitting after everything that has happened in the world recently.
We still have much to be thankful for.

The other day Padma and a young fawn had a face-off.

At first the fawn appears not to notice the cat.

The she does, and comes in for a closer look.

"Who is this creature?"

Sniffing

Padma turns a cold shoulder.

But the fawn comes closer still.

Time for a retreat!

"I wasn't the least bit scared," says Padma Patel.

To Market To Market...

I found this in my "To-Do" stash - I thought it would be a good stitch as we get ever-closer to Thanksgiving.  Certainly we all have many reasons to share the sentiment expressed.

Yesterday was the last outdoor Farmer's Market of the year.

It was a quiet grey, cold day...

The colors were mirrored in the Jarrahdale squash - an Australian native.

This final market was all about "storage" vegtables...onions...

and squash and potatoes...

and I loved this winter-noted bouquet.
The muted creams and silvers were a perfect reflection of the day.
