We're in the midst of a ridiculously warm spell of weather.

It seems more like April than February.

The Juncos are singing up a storm.

This is a male.

This lighter colored one is a female.

And here you go. The bright blue sky I was talking about.

And a bright blue bird to go with it.

The pair of crows are showing up on a regular basis.

 

They like suet.

And they like peanuts.

One of them has a gimpy leg, so I'm pretty sure it's the same pair that was active last spring / summer.

Still getting nice mixed flocks of Pine Siskins and Lesser Goldfinches. 

The male Lessers are the showiest of the small birds.

They really pop on a dull winter day.

Later I heard one over in this area.

The last time I had them in number was clear back in August 2024.

The Flickers Are Back

I got to see three Flickers the other day.  

One was a female.

The other two were both males.

Good to see these charming birds again.

Scrub Jay

A couple of California Scrub Jays came by.

They are the only ones aggressive enough to take on the much larger Flickers.

They usually lose out, but that does not stop them from trying.

They also are piggy.

No sense of portion control.

This will make for a very hearty breakfast.
