Recently, I have been delving into the art of mixed media and jewelry making. Today, I want to show you a piece I made using some of Heartfelt Creations' Balmy Breeze collection.

First I die cut the anchor from foil attached to a piece of cardstock. I then used Distress Paints to give it a patina. I then die cut a piece of the patterned paper and coated both side with Mod Podge. This prevents the paper from taking on a translucent quality when pouring the resin. I then arranged my paper and shells, etc. in the bezel and poured my resin. As the resin was drying, I added my glitter so it would float on the top.

The piece is very dimensional because I allowed some of the shells and part of the anchor to break the surface of the resin. I also did not dome the resin for this particular piece. I haven't decided what I want to do with it yet. It may become either a bookmark charm or a keychain.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to leave a comment in order to be eligible for the $25 Heartfelt Creations gift certificate. Once again, you have until midnight Friday, August 30, 2013.

Life Bezel Keychain

Today I have a little something different to share with you. I recently became aware of the new Spellbinders Media Mixage line of dies and bezels and was instantly smitten. I have also watched a couple of the Try it Tuesday videos featuring this product line. One of those videos was about making your own patinas and it was the inspiration for this project. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you have already seen pictures of the work-in-progress.

The first thing I did was cut my copper piece with the coordinating shield bezel die. I then ran it through my Cuttlebug with the Grateworks One Texture Plate. I then gave it a patina by soaking it in equal parts vinegar and salt for a couple of hours and then letting it air dry outside in the humidity for about a day. I achieved a really nice finish with flecks of red/orange and blue/green with a little of the original copper color peeking through. This then became the bottom layer of my bezel. I then added some Tim Holtz gears and a charm I picked up somewhere. I also used a couple of beads from Kool Tak's Red Sparkles Bonus Pack. Once I got it arranged and glued down the way I liked, I added some Ice Resin and allowed that to cure overnight. I glued a metal piece from my stash to the top and added a couple more seed beads and a silver textured bead. I used a jump ring to attach one of the Tim Holtz swivel clasps and now it is ready to attach to my key ring.

Unfortunately, I had a really hard time getting a good picture so I am hoping to make a short video so you can see it better. My daughter also had fun making a couple of these that she intends to use as bookmarks, which I would also like to show you, so stay tuned.

Flower Soft - Gitter Heart

This week, we are featuring the Kool Tak line of glitters and foils and I have a cute little project to show you.

Yesterday, I was working with some resin and bezels for a mixed media project and I had some leftover resin when I was done. I added some of the Kool Tak super fine red glitter to it, mixed it well and then poured it into a small Hearts One bezel from Spellbinders. I love this glitter because it is so fine and also adds a ton of sparkle.

I had a little brass key in my stash as well as the chain and some rings, so I decided to make this little necklace for my daughter. It was super quick and easy. My only problem was that I should have put it aside to dry instead of leaving it in my work area because I kept getting my finger or something else stuck in the resin. I have to say though, the fact that it is self leveling is awesome.

Stop back tomorrow for a card I made using this same glitter and some adhesive to make a border for a card topper.  In the meantime, please be sure to check out the Flower Soft Facebook page and Blog. Also, you can save 15% on the Kool Tak Glitters and Foils available in the Flower Soft store until May 7, 2013.
