Flower Soft Snowflakes Design Mat

Today I have a Flower Soft project that uses something you may not necessarily think of as a cardmaking tool.

Recently, Flower Soft released a wonderful line of cake decorating products which include silicone molds perfect for shaping fondant. I used one of those molds to create this card. I pressed some paper clay into the mold, released it and allowed it to dry. I then painted the background with some watered down acrylic paint and then went over the raised tops of the snowflakes with the silver Wink of Stella glitter pen.

I then attached the clay piece to my card base and popped a cut-out panel on top.

Flower Soft - Vintage Victorian Medallion

This year, Flower Soft won the CHA 2013 Innovative Product Award for their new line of silicone cake/cupcake molds. Now you may ask, what do these have to do with papercrafting? Well, these molds are perfect for creating embellishments for your projects and are very easy to use.

To create the medallion for my card, I pressed some Martha Stewart Crafter's clay into the mold and then removed it. I let it dry for 24 hours before painting it with some acrylic paints and Distress Stains. I added a thin coat of shimmer paints on top and then dotted the edges with the Gold Pearl pen. When it was all dry, I mounted it onto a gold doily. I created the frame with two Nestabilities dies and then embossed it. I rubbed a little gold ink onto the raised dots. I used two of the flourish dies in opposing corners and added a couple of gold dots with the pearl pen for a finishing touch.

As you can see, cupcake molds don't always have to be used to make  cupcakes.
