Do you hear them? There are sleigh bells ringing somewhere out in the distance. Do you smell it? The smell of pine is wafting through the air. Do you see it? All that sparkle, as people put up their holiday decorations. Can you feel it? So many wonderful textures to explore. Can you taste it? Peppermint, chocolate and shortbread, oh my!!! Can you sense it...Christmas is coming!!! Perfect timing as that is also our theme over on Ike's World Challenges this fortnight.
Ike's current challenge is the perfect place to enter those Christmas cards and if you have been lucky enough to have collected some of Ike's past freebies, there are lots of wonderful Christmas themed ones to choose from. You can join in Ike's challenge with a creation using any kind of medium or style but remember that in order to qualify to win the prize you MUST use an Ike's Art image. General Information:
- Okaaaaaaaaay, remember that I have been wanting to transfer an image to a candle for awhile now? I even had the fortune of being able to post a clear and easy to understand tutorial on one of my Saturday Showcases from the lovely Deb, affectionately known as the Paper Crazy Lady from I Love It!
- Well, I finally decided that this was the week I was going to do it. Now I know why I put it off for so long. I BROKE THE FLIPPIN' PRINTER!!! @#$%#$&*%!!!!!!!!!!
- Why is it that everyone else so easily is able to send through pieces of paper with tissue paper taped to it BUT I CAN'T??!! Tell me, PLEASE!
- The worst part was it didn't even really get jammed, just sort of stuck. Well, apparently it was the final straw for our poor printer because as much as the hubs tried to rescue it, and he has rescued it from much worse jams in the past, it just wouldn't clear and now won't allow us to do anything at all.
- Good news, is that my husband had the insight to purchase a back-up printer two summers ago when there was a seriouly good sale on. Bad news is that the print options are very limited. With the old one I could choose whether to print strictly in black and white and whether I wanted to print in draft, normal, best or very best. This one doesn't give me those options so it is either, a little better than your typical draft OR printing at 600 dpi and using all the ink in the cartridge. Looks like we need to go printer shopping again. I swear, if it isn't one thing breaking down over here it is another!!! Good thing I see some light at the end of the tunnel or boy oh boy, it would be rather bah humbug over here at the moment.
- Anyways, I decided that this wasn't going to dissuade me from creating my candle one bit. So I printed the image I wanted to use out on cardstock the next day after the back-up printer was set up by my wonderful accommodating hubs and then I traced it onto the tissue paper. If only I had thought to do it this way in the first place but I digress--hindsight is always 20-20.
- So once the image was traced, I coloured it and followed the tutorial from Deb (which you can find HERE if you are interested). Here are the final results. If you left click to bring them up in the lightbox, you'll be able to see them better...
Not bad for my first candle, if I do say so myself!
Image Details:
- Poinsettia Cluster: The poinsettia image was one that Ike offered as a freebie last year and while I used it recently on a tag, it just lent itself so well for the small candle that I had to work with. You can find this image in the 'Flowers' section of the Ike's Art store or by clicking on the watermark below.
- I have coloured this beautiful poinsettia image with Copic markers: R22, R24, R29 (petals); G02, G05, G09 (leaves). I used red glitter glue to add some sparkly goodness to the centre of each flower.
- The ribbon is Crafts brand from Dollarama and the beads are from the stash I got from my momma.
