Burdastyle Book Sketches!

At last i get to share my sketches, which i had made last year for The Burdastyle Sewing Handbook. Out of 3 designs i made,  the Design no. 1 got selected and it is this design which has been made as a garment which was published in the Burdastyle Sewing Handbook

Today there is a slideshow of most of the designs featured on Burdastyle Book and i was disappointed to find that my design was missing, hence thought atleast i could share it here, so that my readers can have a glimpse of it. I was not allowed to share this before the book got released due to contract terms, now that the book is out, i can share my sketches! here they come!

Burdastyle Sewing Book - my design featured!

Finally I get to lay my hands on the much awaited copy of The Burdastyle Sewing book, which has my variation of the Dress pattern included too. Though my dress did not belong to the lucky 3 dresses which were modeled and photograph, i am still glad that my dress's snap was featured in the variations page along with other cute dress variations and to see my name in the page alongside the snap was just too good a feeling to explain!

Received the parcel yesterday noon, it contained The Burdastyle Sewing Book ofcourse and alongside the book, there were handout pamphlets about the book with few designs printed on it.

Hand written thank you card!

Burdastyle badges!

Nylon Grocery bag from BAGGU with Burdastyle logo on it!

4 measurement cards!

Glimpse of the dress as of now, will a photo session later this weekend and make a special post on the dress! Its been almost an year since i made this dress and sent it across, so i need to check if it fits me fine now , or else, make alterations as required and then get to flaunt it!

The Burdastyle Sewing Book Launch !

I am proud to say that i am also one of the elite group of contributors to the book. I did a variation for the below pattern and used Aaari & bead work in the bodice to give it nice Indian touch. The fabrics were given by Burastyle as per my choice for the pattern variation i had designed! Let the book get launched, then i shall share my pattern sketch!

I got a mailer yesterday asking for shipping address so that they can send the dress i made back to me along, now that all photoshoots for the book are complete! guess what i will also be getting a contributor copy of the book, i am so excited, can't wait to get my hands on to it!

Love you Burdastyle!

Wow! The Burdastyle book is finally going to hit the Shelves, I am so excited! though i can't see my creation on the cover, i am sure it will seal its place inside the book! Looking forward to it and also now the Book is on the shelves, i guess i will get my dress back soon, so that i can flaunt it!

I received the Book Launch Party Invite, wish i could be there in person, but due to travel costs from India to US, i guess i won't be able to make it. I wish the Team all the very best and wish the Burdastyle Book to be a huge success.

Sample for test fit - Burdastyle Book - Project dress

I chose pattern size 32 as that had shoulders which fit on me.

Should have done full bust adjustment.. anyway learning process..

There is stress at bust point
Excuse unwaxed armpit. Side seam seems fine 1/4 added would give the necessary ease

Center Back at HPS (neckpoint) is gaping and i pinched 1/2 inch on each side.

First time ever i had to use seam ripper to open the seam stitches to remove the dress. I was stuck in it for 2 minutes or so.. ... lesson learnt never put side seam zipper for close neck (close fitting dress). I am unable to find long length invisible zipper, hence used sideseam, will use normal zipper at back itself rather than getting stuck!

Lessons learnt
  • Never put side seam zipper for close cut neckline dress (NEVER ). I somehow squeezed in but had to rip the seams to get off the dress
  • Try doing full bust adjustment of 1/8th or 2/8th on both middle and side front pieces
  • Reduce Bodice height by 6/8 inch and also the point where skirt starts lower by 6/8th inch
  • Or just reduce 1/4 inch from bodice and attach skirt as available (Circumference at this line is 26 inches with ease)
  • Remove from side front and mid front joining seam at starting poing (ie., armhole ) 2/8 inch.
  • Center Back slash 1/2 inch from HPS to dart edge starting point in lower back bodice.
  • Back neck depth can be lowered by another 3 inches
  • Front neck depth increase by 1 inch at curve at C.F , but retain the total length uptil key hole; reshape keyhole
  • Now draft shoulderline princess seam draft and make a fit ensemble
  • Remember to not go by seam allowances at sides given in instruction and use standard rule of 1 1/4 inch to play with.....

Please wish me best of luck, i need them most, this dress is expanding my horizons at all verticals.....

Burdastyle Book - Project dress Begins ...

Assembled all the pattern files together (Just yelled at my daughter :( she is so fascinated by all those sheets and wants to cut them; i am going to having a difficult time ahead )

Traced them off; Hope to cut and make a sample garment in the next 2 days .... I just can't forgive myself for having had a super power nap of 3 hours (unforgiveable! isn't it) today. Had a terrible headache yesterday night and couldn't sleep well, but this afternoon nap and cost me 3 hours. .... Hope to make amends tomorrow. Till then.... bye ...

Oh yes fogot to post pics of fabric which arrived 10 days back.

Assembled pattern pieces

Trace paper (did u notice all the ones removed underneath new shirts ... RECYCLE YES) How i wish i could get big broad lengthy tracing sheets and pattern making sheets, where are they available in chennai, i need a genie to find out

Excited to be part of Burdastyle Book

I have been one of the few lucky participants to contribute to this book. I was given a basic pattern and asked design to something of my own. My design got chosen among the 60 designs to be showcased in the book to be published in 2011. This has been kept a secret for a month now as i didn't get go ahead, the official announcement has now been made, clearing the way for the grand confession... yes yes yes i am part of this fabulous exciting book.

Received fabric from Burdastyle. Signed the contract. Just got the mail of basic pattern, i have never worked with any ready made pattern so far (all my creations have been slogged out self drafted patterns). So will spend sometime on deciphering the pattern and how to use it. Then  will sit down and create the variation required for my design and then do a sample piece (I am happy they have a size 32 in  the pattern, i can try that size and see the fit and drape) before working on actual fabric.

Deadline is 2 August , by which finished garment has to be shipped back. Sew Much to do and Sew Little Time.... bye for now...
