Made for Mom

Somedays inspite of hours of digging through your stash of fabrics, staring at your laptop screen googling for inspiration , scratching your head..you seem to run out of ideas and just when you are about to throw in the towel , viola you finally do get an idea to create something ...

In Spite of having to unpick seams of non forgiving pu leather fabric, and just about scrape through dimensions for end product , you did create something presentable , made with lot of emotions and passion...

Pat yourself on the back, you were born to be a seamstress, albeit with some stress on 'stress'... Yes the you in this story is Me... Today's creation is a eyeglass case for my mom, who celebrated her bday last month .. Pu leather exterior with Amma appliqué in tamil script and lined with cotton which is fused with batting to provide the necessary cushion. Now having my fingers crossed as I am not sure if the dimensions are long enough to fit the eyeglass comfortably ..need to wait for hubby to come back to test his frame

Deepavali Sewing - Adithis Outfit

Adithi's outfit was the last to be made in the series of Deepavali outfits!. Unusual as i usually sew up her outfit first, but since i had made the elaborate Birthday dress and then the pirate costume, had to give a break to sewing her outfit so that i can come back with fresh ideas

Made the skirt part quite easily as the design was just the same i had used in previous ghaghra choli which she wore for Dance Competition.

Yoke at front skirt and elasticated yoke at back wasit with pleated lower skirt (knife pleasts)

For the top i was bit skeptical if can keep it as tie up as that would render the blouse unwearable at school, but still decided to go ahead as the fabric was silk brocade and hence would require some breathing space to make her feel comfortable.

The  top is fully lined. Piped Neckline and hemline. with contrast drawstring tie up closure at back

The part which took the most amount of time in taking a decision was the sleeves, i was caught between puff sleevs, sleeveless and some other sleeve option. Then decided to use self faced cap sleeve, which makes it modest and yet still gives her the comfort . glad i choose this as it works like magic when i had used the left over silk fabric from the bottom part of my Deepavali Dress.

Fabric covered buttons are my latest craze and hence they get featured in this outfit too to break the montony of the print in brocade fabric and add some visual interest at the front and that's it the top was ready just a day before Deepavali, late into the night ! Last minute sewing before any festival or celebration has become my Trademark style ;)

Oh yes how did i forget those danglings at the end of the tie backs at the back of the blouse are actually brocade fabric covered buttons, handsewn wrong side facing each other, together !!! the top dori at the neckline also has ghunghrros as she loves the tinkling sound of them.

All in all , Adithi loved dancing around in the outfit, so i am happy and relieved too.

Sisters Deepavali Outfit and the Longest Sewing hours taken for this year - the Birthday Dress inspired by Princess Aurora coming up soon ...stay tuned

Pirate costume for my girl pirate !

I have already been immersed with sewing the grand birthday dress inspired by Princess Aurora , for the past 3 weeks or so. So it felt like huge accomplishment and to much relief that the dress was complete. Now I can look forward to Deepavali sewing, but no... My little princess loves springing surprise outfit requests out of the blue !

She had a Halloween parade at school and wanted to dress up as Girl Pirate . Me being the indulgent mom decided to give in to her custom request and put Deepavali Sewing on hold and get started on this outfit.

Do you like to sew costume, i somehow love doing them, imagine turning your dreams into reality, your vision to dress up as a character becomes real, the sheer joy and the loads of fun that comes with dress up , for me who believes in fairytales all along, especially for someone with bittersweet past , sewing up a costume is the just right excuse to indulge and envision all those dreams, my little girl dream on, you amma is here with you and for you in all your dreams and wish for them to come true, love you my little darling ! Check out the CellPhone costume and Robot costume i had made earlier for Adithis Fancy dress back home in chennai, though not made of fabric, still costume right !

Out of this outfit I had one thing done already the eye patch using felt and elastic , which I had made a month back , ever since the first trace of pirate fever caught on with Adithi..she even has made her own pirate map for treasure hunt you know ....

For the skirt part made use of white and black vertical stripe pieces, seamed together, this took a lot of time , though simple it was tedious !

The top was a white peasant top style with shirred neckline and sleeve hemline . Though pirates wear long sleeves, my pirate wanted a short one!

Then comes the vest , which though I would have liked to make in red, but since I had no red in my stash and had little time to do fabric shopping , decided to go with black and added maroon satin ties to it . Vest has loop tie up oepning the front and is halter neck

Hat was stor bought so it saved me he hassle of making one!

So , Ta Da here comes the pirate ...watch out

Group pies with rest of the merry team @Halloween @ School

Custom tees for barchelerotte party

Hi Readers,

I know I haven't been posting for quite sometime. Will surely try to make amends and make a few tutorials which have been pending for quite sometime now. Paper bag skirt tutorial is the next one in the pipeline. I have promised myself to do justice to adithisammasews and blog more often. It's not as if there are lack of thoughts, there have been one too many, all related to sewing, but somehow couldn't drag myself to sit in front of the laptop and make a detailed post of the same. Trying to post this using ipad blogger app, if this works, I will be able to make more frequent posts...

Past month (March) did have its share of sewing time, a flower girl dress, summer top for etsy shop - http://etsy.com/adithisammasews . See this is the problem with compose in blogger app, I am not able to add links to text, need to figure that out. Will do a separate post on them as they are still awaiting their potential owner!

Got a custom order , my first one from within Malaysia... Yay!

It was for a bride and her batch of friends, customised tees with embroidery of Bride and Team Bride in the front and woven braided backs. Bought embroidery design from embroiderydesigns.com and did face n trial hiccups on using the design due to size problems, but the team at embroidery designs were so helpful and do excellent customer service, due to which I was able to iron out all issue with .pes files and the embroidery sojourn went smoothly , well almost. This project had its share of drama, the tees back got stuck in the feeder and the embroidery was on 2 layers, so the tee was rendered useless, I informed the client and she was very considerate and understood my issue and that it was an accident, so asked me if could find similar tee, she had got it from parkson, so it was hunting down the tee session at parkson, first visited the parkson at pavilion mall and they did not have it, so after all an hour of frantically searching, we ended up buying footwear for adithi's annual day performance (more on that in next post) and as I was waiting at th billing counter, a shop assistant was kind enough to find out ere I can find similar tee, and told me to check Parkson at sungai wang plaza . On reaching there, we (Adithi, hubby and me ) set out searching and when my hubby shouted with excitement, here is TOMGIRL tee, I heaved a sense of relief, I wouldn't want to let my client down. Need to fix my mistake or my machine 's I need town up for it right? So got the new tee and finished it during weekend. The client has received the parcel and liked the end result of how the tees turned out. Allis well, that ends well isn't it!

Now that I have added pics, I am not sure, how and where they ill be positioned, so bear with me till I figure out this blogger app.

Stay tuned for more regular updates from now on.
