West Point, Aug. 15, 1861.

Having seen a communication in your paper of to-day, from E. F. Bouchefle, M. D., wherein he recommends the use of elder juice, or a decoction of elder, for the expulsion of maggots from a wound, I will state for the benefit of the unfortunate; I once tried the elder, and also spirits of turpentine, on a wound on one of my horses, in which the flies had deposited their eggs, and I found nothing would remove them until I tried boiled honey, which I found removed them on the first application. If you think this worth communicating to the public, you can do so.
