Major General Lee.

--A distinguished clergyman who has recently spent a day in this city, and who has for some time known Gen. Scott intimately, assured a friend here that Gen. Scott told him that General Lee (then Col. Lee) was decidedly the ablest officer in the United States Army. There can be no doubt, then, of the superior military standing of the leader of our forces, our enemies themselves being witnesses. They may yet have more powerful and tangible proof of Gen. Lee's skill.
