Disney Week: Dumbo

Welcome to Disney Week! I will be off and on vacation on a Disney Cruise. Of course you will hear all about it once I am back but I wanted to bring the fun of Disney to my blog!

So here is a week of Disney character inspired outfits. Each day will be a different character and a new idea for how you can take a simple inspiration and make it chic and fun.

Hope you enjoy!

Day 1: Dumbo

Dumbo is such a cutie! So naturally who wouldn't want a dumbo inspired outfit?
This outfit is more on the edgy side. I picked a simple grey jersey dress with a little bit of mesh detailing. Paired along with it I used red or maroon accessories. The red comes from the visions of the circus tents that are in the movie.

To finish things off wear any pair of little booties or ankle boots. These remind me of something a circus master would wear.

To re-create this look simply pick out a grey dress and accessorize!

OOTD: Pop of Pink

OOTD: Pop of Pink

On a gross and rainy day in Illinois this is my ideal look. I paired my favorite chevron blouse with a simple pair of high waisted jeggings.

For the nasty rainy weather I wore my Hunter rain boots. However, they are not the best shoes to go shopping in! My feet killed after my Mom and I made our trip around our mall.

To add some color into the look I wore my new statement necklace I picked up recently along with a bright pink lipstick. I like adding a bright lip color to brighten up a dreary day (Well brighten up any day really!) So, if you find yourself wearing a bland outfit through on a bright bold lip to spice up the look.

But, the look is super casual and super comfy.

Where it's from:
Jeggings: American Eagle
Shirt: American Eagle
Boots: Hunters (Nordstrom exclusive)
Necklace: Dry Goods
Earrings: Kate Spade

Wearing a bold lip with this look added even more pink! I wore a Covergirl blast flipstick in Perky along with a Bare Minerals lip gloss.

My accessories include a bold pink statement necklace and Kate Spade bow earrings.

The eye look of the day! Featuring my favorite Lorac palette.

Get the look!
This look is super simple to achieve. Simply pair your favorite chevron blouse (black and white of course) with a pop of pink with a statement necklace. Pair your top with a pair of your favorite jeggings and black rain boots if you have them! (Of course black boots will work as well.)

Favorite Mascaras

Everyone has those favorite beauty products that they live by.
Well, here are my top mascaras of all time. All of these products I have used religiously and till there is nothing left!

Mascara is one of my favorite things because my lashes are one of my favorite features.

I would recommend any of these amazing products to any of my friends so I want to share them with you!

Tip: Buy drugstore mascara!
Drugstore makeup is your friend! You don't need to spend $30 on a tube of mascara. Drugstore mascaras are some of my favorites so be sure to explore all of your options. And hey might as well because the prices can be pretty sweet!

Tip: Use multiple products!
Apply multiple coats and different types of mascara! I hardly ever just wear one type of mascara. There is a system and a process you have to learn to get your ideal mascara combination!

Just keep trying different combinations till you find your ideal lashes.

Favorite Mascaras

$19 - bigw.com.au

The colossal cat eye volume mascara is a great product. It has a tiny brush so it is great for lower lashes as well as upper. The brush lets you get super close to the lash line for easy application.
$27 - nelly.com

At first I had unsure opinions of the rocket mascara. However, it has for sure grown on me. This is a great mascara to layer with other mascaras.

marykay.com

Mary Kay makes amazing quality products. So, if your eyes are more sensitive to makeup I HIGHLY recommend their mascara.

asos.com

Both of these Rimmel mascaras work perfectly together! They are the perfect pair and are pretty reasonably priced!

How to be preppy

How to be preppy

So you want to be preppy? Well that is understandable.

The land of monograms, J Crew, and other fancy things is the life of many.

However, I am just a girl stuck in the midwest trying to be a southern belle. {It's casual} But, that is not the point.

Here is your go to list of things you need to be the ultimate prepster.....

1. A Ralph Lauren or Vineyard Vines hat: This is a preppy girls best friend. If you are having a bad hair day just throw it on and you are good to head out the door. I basically wear a hat at least once a week because lets be honest we all have those days.
2. Your next go to is a simple pair of pearl studs. Pearls go with basically everything.... correction they do go with everything.
3. Every preppy girl needs something monogram. Just get something.... anything.
4. Basically anything from J Crew is your best friend. But more specifically you need a puffy vest from them. They are perfect to layer with on a chilly fall day.
5. Speaking of J Crew, a statement necklace is a must have. Even if it is a J Crew inspired bubble or rosette necklace these chunky pieces are a go-to piece for any prepster. I know speaking from personal experience. {I have a small necklace obsession. By small of course I mean out of control.}
6. A crisp button down is also always a great piece to have. They go with so many things and can be casual or dressy.
7. There are a few must have shoes that need to be included in any preppy girls collection. Hunters, Kate Spade Keds, and ballet flats are a must. Also, every girl has to have a pair of Sperry's.
8.  Anything Lilly Pulitzer is needed. However, that takes money. So opt out for a Lilly planner that you can carry around campus or school.
9. Another go-to brand is Kate Spade. Getting a cute mug with a saying is never a bad thing either :)
10. The last thing you need is some cute arm candy. A Kate Spade bangle is always a good option. Stack them up on your wrist to complete the perfect preppy outfit!

These are a few of my favorite things...Striped Obsessed

These are a few of my favorite things..... Striped Obsessed

So I have noticed recently that I have been wearing a lot of striped things. As I am writing this post I am even wearing a striped shirt.

Stripes are great because they can be both preppy or edgy. Usually, I take the preppy route of course. However, occasionally when I am feeling daring I can always turn them into something edgy.

Here are two ways to style stripes:

Striped Obsessed

This first looks incorporates more of an edgy take on stripes. I paired a simple black and white striped top with an army green mini skirt. The skirt makes it very military inspired but in a sophisticated way.By adding a pair of booties and knee socks it also adds a more rugged look. To add some glamour to the ensemble I added a giant statement necklace. The tiny pop of neon in the necklace also adds a unique and different touch.

Stripes on Stripes

The second look is more preppy and chic. By wearing a striped dress with oxfords you can bring out your inner preppy school girl. Also, if you add a pair of knee socks you can elevate your preppy side even more. Since the look is mostly black and white add a bold colored necklace. This will brighten up your look and make it more fun and playful.

A J Crew striped embellished top is basically perfection. The added sparkle of the gems just adds an extra level or chicness and prep.

Sorority Rush Outfit Ideas

Sorority Recruitment Outfit Ideas:
I am starting my rushing process this weekend. So, I thought I would share some outfit ideas that follow my guidelines for rush. Every school is different but it is pretty similar across the board.

Sorority Rush Outfit Ideas

One day will most likely business casual. So, I paired a cute pair of scalloped shorts with a simple white button down. By adding a junky statement necklace it gives something special to your outfit that people will be able to remember. To finish the look I just added a pair of gold strappy sandals and gold studs. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes! I bet you will be walking around campus going to your different visits and you don't want to trip in wedges or get blisters. Wear any shoes or sandals that are comfortable but not sloppy looking.

Sorority Rush Outfit Ideas

  1. Outfit number one is designed around if you have to wear a rush t-shirt. Make sure to wear a pair of longer shorts if you choose to wear shorts. Something tells me this is not the time or place for high waisted cut offs. These J Crew shorts have a longer inseam but are still cute and preppy. Pair this look with cute sneakers and a fun necklace. Small details will make you feel more confident.
  2. This outfit is for one of days you could wear a skirt. I paired a fun mustard skirt with a simple denim sleeveless button down. If yellow isn't your favorite simply change the look around to what you have in your closet. Again, I paired it with a fun bright necklace. I think necklaces are a great way to add attention to your face. You definitely need to do this at rush so they will remember not only your personality but how you look!
  3. Most likely you will have to wear a dress one of the days. So, this printed dress is fun yet still classy and professional. Try and stay away from your super tight body con dresses. You aren't impressing boys you are impressing girls. Pick something cute rather than sexy. Bubble necklaces are always a great addition as well. They make a bold statement and are super preppy.

Formal Recruitment Outfit Ideas
Here are three ideas for your preference night. This is usually the most dressy of all the nights. Again, depending on your school the more dressy you should be. From left to right the options get more formal. So you can pick the one that fits you.

Remember to wear things that you are comfortable in. Don't dress like someone else dress like yourself it will make you feel more confident in the end.

Good luck if you are rushing! If not you can use these ideas for everyday.

Preppy With a Twist
It's back to school time! Which means new clothes and new looks. This fall punk and grunge is really in. For a girly girl like myself this trend isn't the easiest. But here are some outfits girly and grungy at the same time!
Back To School Style

These two are the most girly. Mixing patterns is always fun. So I paired this flower sweater with a polka dot circle skirt. I also love to layer sweaters with collared shirts. It gives you an extra layer in cold classrooms. Pair the ensemble with cute flats and a statement necklace.

The next look is kind of nerdy chic I would call it. Wearing a baseball tee dressed up is still relaxed enough for a lazy day but still cute. Add some statement jewelry, a cute patterned shoe, and nerd classes to complete the look.

Pretty in Punk

Pretty in Punk

Everyone loves Pretty in Pink. But, how about pretty in punk? Add punk touches to feminine pieces to stay on trend this fall.
The first outfit I paired a denim button down, one of my favorite all year round pieces, with cute pink shorts. Add a spiked flat and a chain necklace to edge up the look. If it gets chilly out add some tights!
The next look meshes punk with girly perfectly. Pair a pink skirt with any striped top and add a leather vest or jacket to edge it up. Add any type of punk accessories to take it to the next level.

 Back to Casual

Casual School Style

So maybe you are a more casual girl. So the first look is cute but comfy. Wear a loose fitting tee or shirt with a pair of boyfriend jeans and add some fun quirky accessories. The cheetah print is fun and a statement watch with bangles adds some jewelry to the look.
The next look is dressy but still relaxed. Pair a printed skirt with a cute muscle tee for a dressed down look. By pairing it with platform sneakers you can add a sporty touch. Of course no outfit is complete without a fun statement necklace!

Hope these outfits gave you some tips and tricks! REMEMBER: Teen Vogue's back to school saturday is your non-stop shopping day for anything and everything back to school! So get ready for the BEST saturday ever.

Back To School

Back To School

This look is perfect for back to school. Keeping things dressy but also casual at the same time. I paired this J Crew dress and cardigan with Keds to keep it fun yet professional.
