Preppy Diaries: Professionally Preppy

Flower Power
For my internship I have to dress a little more professional then an average 18 year old (well now I'm 19 it's my birthday today... weird!) girl during the summer time. So, I try and find fun ways to wear color and patterns but still look like I am going to work. I found a happy medium with these fun green floral pants from J Crew. I am in love with this print! It is super bright but it isn't obnoxious. My friend got this print in a shorts version but they didn't fit me so I was a little bummed. But, I later found the city pant in the same print and knew I had to get them! I paired the green pants with a simple white button down. Time and time again I talk about these Ralph Lauren Polo shirts but I can't say it enough! These shirts are honestly perfection. You can wear them super casual, professional, or for basically whatever.

For accessories I wore a bright neon pink belt to accent the pink in the pants. Also, I wore a classic J Crew statement necklace that basically everyone seems to have. But it is for sure one of my favorites! I also wore a simple pair of gold and white sandals. My bracelets include my favorite Alex and Ani bangles, a neon Kate Spade bangle, and a Pura Vida bracelet. I am a campus rep for Pura Vida so I have been loving these bracelets for the summer! To get 10% off your oder be sure to use the code POLLITT10

{I am loving this Pura Vida bracelet (on the left). They are perfect for any summer time stack. I usually put it on the same wrist as my watch to add a little bit of color.}

Preppy Diaires: Preppy in Plaid

A few days ago I wore a super preppy border line school girl ensemble. But, I was kind of obsessed. So many of the fashion bloggers I follow wear plaid skirts. I was lucky to find this one at the J Crew outlet in the kids section (Yes I wear kids clothes. One of the many perks of being super short!). The skirt is kind of worn higher up on the waist and it has a super cute bow on the front.

I paired the skirt with a simple white button down. A white button down really goes with anything! I always find myself reaching for mine. For accessories I picked my favorite J Crew necklace of the moment. It has a bunch of pearls with gold accents. To keep with the pearl theme I wore my pearl stud earrings. For my wrist I wore my typical combo of my watch and bangles.

For shoes I wore my favorite brown boots along with a pair of brown opaque tights. To keep myself warm from class to class I threw on my J Crew infinity scarf. I liked how the plaid and the polka dot patterns mixed together. It created a fun and playful look.

To finish the look I pulled my hair in a fun high pony and made it super curly. Then I popped on a bold red lipstick from Mary Kay.

Preppy Diaries: Stripes and Such

Preppy Diaries: Stripes and Such

Today, like most days, was another preppy outfit to add to the Preppy Diaries. This preppy look included one of my favorite preppy must haves, a Ralph Lauren oxford shirt.
These shirts literally go with everything! They are such a great investment to have in your closet.

With the oxford I wore a fun striped skirt. This skirt goes with so much and is surprisingly versatile. Of course I paired this look with a black bubble necklace. (the ultimate preppy girl accessory)

To add a splash of color I wore my bright blue oxfords. These shoes are super fun and also comfortable.

To finish off the look I added a darker pink red lip stain from Covergirl.
Fun fact: The guy checking me out at the on campus coffee shop said that I pulled off red lipstick. It kind of made my day (even though it wasn't red lipstick)

How to be preppy

How to be preppy

So you want to be preppy? Well that is understandable.

The land of monograms, J Crew, and other fancy things is the life of many.

However, I am just a girl stuck in the midwest trying to be a southern belle. {It's casual} But, that is not the point.

Here is your go to list of things you need to be the ultimate prepster.....

1. A Ralph Lauren or Vineyard Vines hat: This is a preppy girls best friend. If you are having a bad hair day just throw it on and you are good to head out the door. I basically wear a hat at least once a week because lets be honest we all have those days.
2. Your next go to is a simple pair of pearl studs. Pearls go with basically everything.... correction they do go with everything.
3. Every preppy girl needs something monogram. Just get something.... anything.
4. Basically anything from J Crew is your best friend. But more specifically you need a puffy vest from them. They are perfect to layer with on a chilly fall day.
5. Speaking of J Crew, a statement necklace is a must have. Even if it is a J Crew inspired bubble or rosette necklace these chunky pieces are a go-to piece for any prepster. I know speaking from personal experience. {I have a small necklace obsession. By small of course I mean out of control.}
6. A crisp button down is also always a great piece to have. They go with so many things and can be casual or dressy.
7. There are a few must have shoes that need to be included in any preppy girls collection. Hunters, Kate Spade Keds, and ballet flats are a must. Also, every girl has to have a pair of Sperry's.
8.  Anything Lilly Pulitzer is needed. However, that takes money. So opt out for a Lilly planner that you can carry around campus or school.
9. Another go-to brand is Kate Spade. Getting a cute mug with a saying is never a bad thing either :)
10. The last thing you need is some cute arm candy. A Kate Spade bangle is always a good option. Stack them up on your wrist to complete the perfect preppy outfit!

What's Trending? #preppyhats

Being on a college campus, I see a lot of different trends in what people are wearing. A lot of college students have been wearing either Ralph Lauren baseball hats or baseball hats in general. It is an easy way to cover up second day hair but it is also kind of preppy and fabulous at the same time.

Now, we all know I have a preppy obsession. So, I am all aboard when it comes to this preppy trend. Most girls will wear their hats with just yoga pants and a sweatshirt. However, I challenge you all to take this trend to a new level and make it cute, preppy, and of course chic.

How would I style a preppy hat look?
Preppy Style

The first look is more casual of the two. This look is a simple pair of jeans paired with a button down and a vest. For cooler fall days this look is perfect. Layers is a very important thing in the fall. You never know when you might get to hot or too cold. Pairing the simple clothing pieces with ballet flats and a statement necklace jazz up the look. Also, the hat is the main focus because the rest of the look is fairly neutral and the red really pops against the navy colors.

This look is more dressy then the previous look. If you pair your hat with a cute skirt and denim button down you can dress it up a bit. Put on a cute pair of Sperrys, like these sequin wedge Top Siders, and you add a little more of a girly touch. Complete the look with of course a statement necklace and some arm candy.

Where can you get these adorable hats you may ask?

I ordered this Vineyard Vines hat off of Amazon. I have also had friends order Ralph Lauren hats off Amazon as well.

To purchase monogram hats like this one Etsy or monogram shop websites are the place to go. You can get the best deal on a hat if you shop around and look at the prices. Some you can find as low as $15!
