Recent Bright Eye Looks

Been a while since I've posted an eye of the day, hasn't it?  I've been forgetting to take pictures.  Plus, I've been wearing variations on the same three looks for a while, so nothing really worth photographing I guess.  Here's some recent ones that I enjoyed wearing because they were bright and fun.

This was:
MAC Chrome Yellow over MAC Chromaline in Primary Yellow
MAC Nighttrain
Physicians Formula Eye Booster liner in Ultra Black

This was:
Ben Nye Tangerine
Ben Nye Aztec Gold
Ben Nye Ice
Sugarpill Poison Plum
Physicians Formula Eye Booster in Ultra Black

This was:
MAC Acid Orange pigment over MAC Chromaline in Genuine Orange
MAC Rocking Orange glitter over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
Sugarpill Poison Plum
Make Up For Ever #92
Make Up For Ever #75
Physicians Formula Eye Booster in Ultra Black

This was:
Stila Stay All Day Wet-to-Set 3D Eyeshadow Trio in Daybreak
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner in Turquoise
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Liner in Turquoise

Kinda spring-ish, kinda summer-ish, right?  It sure doesn't feel like spring, but maybe if I wear some brighter colors it'll start warming up outside.

New Sugarpill Heart Breaker Palette Swatches and Review

Sugarpill recently released a brand new eyeshadow palette and it's freaking amazing. I have the other two and I love them, but wow, this one takes it to a whole new level. The palette is called Heart Breaker and it's available either as this four-pan palette I'm reviewing here, or as individual shadow singles.

Sugarpill Cosmetics Addicted To Pretty Heart Breaker Eyeshadow Collection

Swatched over bare skin (no primer), natural light:
Acidberry, Velocity, 2AM, Mochi

Look using Sugarpill Acidberry and Velocity.

What I liked:
  • The shadow formula is silky and pigmented without being too hard, chalky or powdery. The texture on these seems even better than the previous two palettes.
  • Seriously, the pigmentation on these is amazing.
  • The colors are not your standard bright shades and they look bold and interesting on the eyes.
  • The packaging is top-notch. The bright colors, the artwork and design, the sturdy construction, the thorough labeling, everything about it is perfect.
  • So inexpensive for such a good product. The entire palette is only $34 and the shadows are giant.

What I didn't like:

  • Acidberry tends to fade/lose intensity by the end of the day unless I apply it over a white base.
  • 2AM sometimes becomes streaky/patchy when blending it. I don't know if it's because of my primer or the color itself, but it seems like it doesn't adhere evenly to the skin. I have this problem with all matte purples, though.
  • Sugarpill's palettes are so good that they always seem to be sold out on the website. You may need to follow them on Facebook to know when they'll restock each time.

NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Rated R

You know, I was thinking the other day that the top half of the palette reminds me of a better version of the NARS Rated R duo. It was the first NARS duo I ever bought and I've never been happy with the pigmentation, application, blendability or staying power of it, but I never returned it because I love the colors. Acidberry and Velocity aren't exact matches for the Rated R shadows, but they're close enough and about a million times better.

The Sugarpill Heart Breaker palette is available directly from Sugarpill's website. It retails for $34 and is not limited edition (yay!).

Sugarpill Cosmetics Haul, Swatches and Review!

Sugarpill Cosmetics had another sale recently, and as luck would have it, everything I wanted was actually in stock! So, of course, I had to place another order. The Burning Heart palette is finally mine! WOOHOO!

Here's what I got:

The Burning Heart palette that I've been eying forever.

A few more Chromalust Loose Eyeshadows.

And two pairs of the new Sugarpill lashes.

I haven't tried on either pair of lashes yet, but I did play around with the palette and the Chromalusts, so here's a quick review of those:

SUGARPILL COSMETICS BURNING HEART PALETTE

The Burning Heart palette comes with the same gorgeous packinging that the Sweetheart palette has. It's a very sturdy black cardboard palette. On the front is the Sugarpill logo in metallic silver against a hot pink heart/cross/crown design.

On the back is an equally gorgeous and well-designed label that lists the name of the palette, the colors in the palette, the weight of the product inside and has the Sugarpill shop URL.

The palette flips open to reveal four huge shadow pans and a full sized mirror.

The shades are Flamepoint (matte orange), Buttercupcake (matte yellow), Love + (matte red) and Poison Plum (purple shimmer). Top photo is with flash, bottom is with natural light.

All of the shades in the palette have a matte finish when swatched, but Poison Plum has a very subtle turquoise shimmer to it in the pan. I originally assumed that this was a match for Make Up For Ever #92, but it's really not, even though they look pretty similar in pictures. Poison Plum is lighter and a lot more red-toned than #92.

Swatched heavily, no primer, natural light and flash. Flamepoint, Buttercupcake, Love+ and Poison Plum.

I do like these colors a lot, but I'm not as impressed with them as I was with the Sweetheart palette. The colors in the Sweetheart palette felt so smooth and and almost creamy in texture. These have a very stiff feel to them. They felt chalky, hard, and a little sticky/clumpy/grainy feeling, didn't swatch smoothly and just didn't feel anything like the Sweetheart shadows. I thought they would have the same powdery-smooth-cool texture and the same streak-free, barely-need-to-use-any super intense color payoff.

I've only use Poison Plum and Buttercupcake on my eyes so far, but Buttercupcake gave me trouble and Poison Plum was mostly fine.

SUGARPILL CHROMALUST LOOSE EYESHADOW (DECORA, HYSTERIC, LUMI)

The Chromalusts come in equally impressive packaging. The lids have the same hot pink/silver Sugarpill logo that the palette has.

The labels are equally nice. Clearly printed, cute, and with all the pertinent information. Ingredients are not listed on the jars themselves, but are included on the outer box (not shown).

The jars have wide mouths and no sifters. Product is filled by weight, not by volume, so each jar looks like it contains a different amount.

The colors I picked this time were:

Decora. A bright pink shimmer, slightly yellow-based with a coral tinge, and lots of tiny bright green sparkles.

Hysteric. A blue-toned frosty purple shimmer with little blue, green and pink iridescent sparkles. It's like a better version of MAC Violet pigment.

Lumi. A sheer white base with bright turquoise/blue/green duochrome shimmer.

Swatched without primer, natural light and flash. Decora, Hysteric and Lumi. In the third picture (the blurry one), you can see all the iridescent sparkles in each color really well.

These were really nice. I've used all three and I like them all so far. The payoff is good, they feel very smooth and they blend pretty well. Lumi is sheer so it's best used over a colored base. The only thing I don't like so far is that Decora bleeds pink when I use it wet (example of that in a minute).

Also, my Lumi exploded a little in shipping :(

Everything in the box was covered in this really pretty blue-green shimmer and I couldn't figure out why until I opened the Lumi Chromalust box and a cloud of shadow poofed out. Not really a big deal, I only lost about three or four applications-worth of product, but still a bit of an unexpected mess to clean up.

SUGARPILL EYELASH OVERDOSE FALSE LASHES (PIXIE BOMB, STORMY)

Also picked up two of the new Sugarpill lashes.

They come in a plastic tray with a paper sleeve that included some instructions on how to apply the lashes.

These are called Pixie Bomb. They're long, spiky lash sections alternating with short, fine criss-cross lashes. Click on the second picture of you want to see a closeup of the hairs.

These ones are the Stormy lashes. These are also a spiky style, but they have a slightly more natural look. They're full and medium length with a slight curl to them, and if you look closely, you can see that some of the hairs are a deep blue instead of pure black.

A few little things to note about the lashes: They don't come with their own glue, the packages aren't marked with the names of the styles, and they're made of either natural human hair or synthetic hair, depending on the style.

One thing that I love about these is that Sugarpill's website has an actual picture of each lash style being worn on the eye. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that and how easy it makes deciding which lashes to order.

Once I try to apply them I'll have to report back with my results. They seem really nice and lightweight compared to other lashes I've tried, so hopefully I'll have good luck with them!

I did a couple fast looks using some of these products:

This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance Lemon Drop
NYX White Eyeshadow Base (lid only)
Sugarpill Chromalust in Lumi on lid
Sugarpill Chromalust in Hysteric in crease and on lower lashline
Sugarpill Chromalust in Decora wet as liner
Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Zero on waterline
Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara
Sugarpill Poison Plum on brows

If you look closely at my liner, you can see that bleeding problem I was talking about. It happened gradually, but by the time I was done applying my mascara, I noticed that a lot of pink color had bled out of Decora and onto Lumi. Maybe I got it too wet? Or maybe it's just one of those colors that bleeds. All three shades are very sparkly looking on the eye... maybe next time I'll tone it down a little so it doesn't look so shiny.

This was:
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
Sugarpill Chromalust in Decora on inner half of lid
Sugarpill Chromalust in Hysteric on outer half of lid
Sugar Pill Pressed Eyeshadow in Poison Plum in crease and on lower lashline
Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencil in Clash as liner
Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara

Ooh, clumpy lashes, bad. Anyway... this didn't turn out quite like I envisioned it, but it still looks pretty okay-ish. I wanted to do an 80s-looking pink and purple thing, but this just sorta melted into a weird purple gradient. The sparkles in Decora and Hysteric are super pretty, but you have to be careful not to overblend them or they'll disappear. I patted some extra on after blending to make sure the sparkles were still visible. Poison Plum went on a little streakier than I hoped, but the color is nice.

Overall, I'm fairly happy with everything I ordered. I love the Chromalusts, the lashes look super cool and the shadows are okay, but I didn't expect them to be so stiff-textured. I'll have to go through and use each color a few times to see if I can get them to go on a little smoother like the Sweet Heart shadows do. My Lumi spilled on everything, but that's okay, it happens and my jar is still full.

I do wish that their shipping statement was more accurate, though. I did get notice ahead of time that my order may not ship until February 20th, and I got a shipping notice on the 20th as promised. The problem is that the package didn't actually ship until the 24th, similar to my last order. I ordered during a sale (meaning extra high order volume), I completely understand and acknowledge that shipping will be longer and I'm 100% okay with that, but it's a confusing to be told that your order has shipped/will be shipped on X day when it hasn't. I'm totally cool with long turnarounds and long shipping as long as I know about it going into it. My order did arrive and everything was fine, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Probably doesn't happen if you're not ordering during a sale.

One awesome thing to mention is that my order came with a little business card like the last one, except this time it had a super hot picture of Amelia Arsenic (aka Destroyx from Angelspit) on it! I thought that was pretty cool, as most brands tend to use generic pop star-type celebrities as models, but for once a brand I like used a model that I'm actually familiar with, and one from a band who has toured with/has members from other bands I like. Neato.

Everything here can be purchased directly from Sugarpill's website. Shipping is a $5 flat rate for all US orders, but orders of $75 or more get free shipping, including international. The Burning Heart palette is out of stock again, but it's a permanent item, so it will be back eventually.
