Jessica Bliss is This Bridal Collection for Spring/Summer 2012 Swatches and Review

Check out this little three-shade bridal collection from Jessica. Very different from the usual pale, washed-out pinks and sheer whites that usually make up bridal nail polish collections. The shades in Jessica's 2012 bridal collection, Bliss is This, are:

Jessica Desire. An odd light wine shade with a creme finish.

Jessica Flirtation. A medium dusty tea rose color with a creme finish.

Jessica Love Story. A light cantaloupe orange with a creamy jelly finish.

Formula on all was good. Slightly thick in texture, but easy application. Just be careful about applying thin coats and the formula shouldn't give you any trouble. Perfect brushes. I did three coats of each and all were completely opaque in three. Somewhat long dry time.

It's cool that they chose three very non-traditional colors for their 2012 bridal collection, but I can't say I really like any of them. Not much else to say about it!

Chanel Le Vernis in April, June, May

EDIT:  Apparently these three Jessica shades are dupes of Chanel's Spring 2012 Le Vernis collection!  I hadn't seen the Chanel collection, so thank you everyone for pointing it out!

The Jessica Bliss is This collection is available in both regular polish and in GELeration Soak-Off Gel polish and can be purchased directly from Jessica Cosmetics.

Jessica Peacock Queen Collection Fall 2011 Swatches and Review

Jessica's Peacock Queen collection was actually released in Fall 2011, but somehow I never noticed it until this spring. It's a small collection, only three shades, but that's okay. If the shades seem familiar to you, it's because they're duplicates of the Chanel Le Vernis Fall 2011 collection shades, except for less than a third of the price per bottle.

Chanel Le Vernis Fall 2011

Jessica Bronze Tailed. This is a light mousy brown/taupe frost. The frost is very silvery and fine but also has some larger speckles of shimmer that stand out against the base color. Truthfully, I don't understand the appeal of this color. I didn't like it when Chanel did it, and I don't like now that Jessica has done it. Frosty, murky, faded brown? No thanks! But, if you're looking for a less expensive version of Chanel Quartz, this is your polish.

Jessica Iridescent Eye. Now this is fantastic. It's a metallic, near-chrome finish polish. The main color of the polish is a shiny golden olive. But, with light changes in angle or lighting, the polish will flash green, teal, blue, brighter gold and yellow and even a hint of orange.

Jessica Smoky Feather. This is a chunky multicolor shimmer. The main color is a graphite grey but it also has chunky flecks of gold and dark silver. It has a very textured, almost glittery look, but it's actually completely smooth, not gritty at all. It is very sparkly in the sunlight. This is a match to Chanel Graphite.

I know I already posted a Chanel Peridot comparison here, but I took a few more pictures of just Peridot and Iridescent Eye together to show how similar they are.

I wanted to do a comparison between Chanel Graphite and Jessica Smoky Feather, but I've apparently lost my bottle of Graphite... I can't find it anywhere and I looked everywhere! And I never bought Chanel Quartz, so I can't compare that either. But here's a closer look at the bottles just to show how close they all are:

Here's Jessica's collection: Bronze Tailed, Iridescent Eye, Smoky Feather.

Here's Chanel's Le Vernis Fall 2011 Collection: Quartz, Graphite, Peridot.

Pretty good, right?

The formula on these was fantastic. None of them gave me even a hint of difficulty. They were extremely smooth, flowed evenly without dragging or pooling, and were just all around wonderful. Best Jessica polishes I've used so far- normally they feel thick to me. The drying time on these was longer than average, but not unbearable. I did three coats of each in these pictures.

Is this an original collection? No. Is it a blatant knockoff of the Chanel Fall collection? Yes. Am I upset about that? No way! These have great formula and application, the colors seem very true to the originals and you can buy the entire Jessica collection for less than the price of one of the Chanel polishes. I'm very happy about that, especially since I've been considering buying a backup of Peridot, but couldn't bring myself to spend $52 on two bottles of polish. Same look, better formula, better price. I can't complain about that!

These are available now on jessicacosmetics.com.

Chanel Peridot Comparison

I was swatching the Jessica Peacock Queen collection, which is basically a very good trio of less-expensive Chanel dupes, and since I had all these polishes out in front of me already, I figured I'd try them on side-by-side just to see how close they actually are.

Chanel Peridot - Jessica Iridescent Eye - Ozotic 507 - Morpheus 205

Here's just Peridot and Iridescent Eye. Can you tell which is which? It's...

Now, the Ozotic and the Morpheus definitely aren't dupes of Peridot, but they are very similar to each other. Morpheus 205 dries to a smoother finish and has a better formula (and is discontinued), Ozotic 507 has a stranger formula but more yellow in the color. If you were looking for a brighter version of Chanel Peridot, or just a cool chrome-like bright green duochrome, you'd probably like Ozotic 507.

As for Peridot and Iridescent eye, I'm confident in calling them dupes. They are practically exact duplicates to my eye. Iridescent Eye has a better application and dries a touch smoother than Peridot, Peridot might be just a hair darker, but they're so close that I wouldn't be able to tell they were two different colors if I didn't already know.

Stamping over Chanel Peridot

Here's a quick Bundlemonster stamp I did over my Chanel Peridot mani to hide the chips. I used one of the Bundlemonster full nail designs with Konad Black Special Polish. I wish the Bundlemonster designs were just a bit wider... They're really cool looking, but they're so skinny, I can never do my thumbs with them! Why did they make them so skinny?

I think I like the way the black full nail stamp looks over a duochrome. Reminds me of tapestry.

Chanel Le Vernis 531 Peridot (Limited Edition, Illusions d'Ombres Collection Fall 2011)

I caved. I ordered Chanel Peridot. I couldn't resist it. Chanel purchases are always the source of much internal conflict for me- I'm lured in by the color, but then I'm let down by the instantaneous chipping and ridiculous price. I can't always justify spending $25 on one single polish that will undoubtedly chip within the first four hours of wear... But this time, I'm glad I splurged.

For your viewing pleasure, the lovely Chanel Peridot.

Peridot looks like a very strong duochrome in the bottle, with the two main colors being olive-gold and blue-green. Sometimes with these types of colors, the duochrome is only visible in the bottle and doesn't translate on the nail. In this case it does, albeit not quite so strongly. It shifts from olive and gold to a grassy green, from green to an aqua blue, and then to a golden orange and a hint of red.

I didn't like this at first. When it was freshly applied, it was streaky and had no duochrome effect. As it dried, the frosty streaks disappeared and the multichromatic aspect of the polish intensified. It constantly changes with each movement of my hands; watching myself type is currently very amusing.

I'm normally not a fan of Chanel's formula, brushes or application, but Peridot has a much better formula than any of my other Chanels. It's opaque in one coat and isn't overly thick or runny. It is a streaky, frosty mess while you're applying it, but once it dries the majority of the streaky frostiness disappears. It does take a rather long time to dry just like all the other Chanels I've used.

The color is really something else. You know what it reminds me of?

Peridot has that shiny green-gold-blue-red metallic color that I admire on beetles and houseflies. Such beautiful little creatures.

I've been wearing Peridot since about seven o'clock yesterday evening and so far it hasn't chipped. That's a record for me and Chanel polish, so hopefully it's a sign of improved formula!

Peter Philips and the Chanel robot?

This is not something I'd normally post, but there's a little robot dude made out of eyeshadow compacts and lipstick tubes and I find it amusing.

It's a short clip featuring Peter Philips (global director of beauty for Chanel) talking about his inspiration for doing makeup, but at around 1:00 in you get to see the makeup robot. It's supposed to be part of an animated film to be released tomorrow.

Peter Philips: Beautiful Dreamer on Nowness.com.

Toward the end you get a closer look at it and there's a funny blush/brush creature too. This is Chanel??

Chanel Rouge Noir with Revlon Slipper

I was having kind of a crappy day so I decided I wanted to wear a fancy color to cheer myself up... Somehow fancy in my mind always equals vampy, so I picked out Chanel Rouge Noir (aka Vamp, but the creme version.)

I had just finished applying my topcoat when my hand kinda spazzed out and hit the bottle of Seche and put a huge gouge in the polish on my index finger! ARGH! It was still wet enough that it evened out a little, but it was still really obvious. I didn't feel like re-doing one nail (because that's a pain!) and I wasn't quite as fond of the mani as I'd hoped I would be, so, of course, I covered everything with glitter!

Glitter makes everything better.

A couple different angles to show the sparkle. The glitter is Revlon Slipper, from the fall collection. I only grabbed the glitters from the collection because the creme bases were pretty basic looking. These glitters are amazing, though. So sparkly. And it's square glitter, too! I love square glitter! Slipper is a combination of silver and red square glitter and some silver hologram hexagon shaped glitter. This is one coat over two coats of Rouge Noir and topped with Nubar Diamont topcoat.

Haven't played around much with the other Revlon glitters, though. They're super pretty but I just never think to layer when I'm doing manis lately!
