31dc2012 - day 22

The theme for day 22 is Inspired By A Song.
Let me just start off by saying that this is not my best effort. Haha.

The song I chose to use as my inspiration is Domino by Jessie J.

This song is my jam and I have been wanting to do nails inspired by it (moreso the video) for a long time! However I did not have enough time to incorporate all the ideas I had so I had to go with a more simple design.

It's pretty easy to see where the inspiration of my index and middle fingers came from, and the other nails are inspired by an awesome wall in the video.
(I wanted to do each nail a different pattern from the video but that would have taken forever! So I settled on my favorite one.)

This image is from Konad m60. I hadn't used it before but now I'm really diggin' it!

I used only three polishes to create this look:
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Whirlwind White
Konad Special Black (I used this for the freehand domino detail too but I don't recommend using special polish for nail art. I was just being lazy.)
NOX Twilight - Crush

Like I said, not my best effort. Still pretty cute though!
I wish I'd had more time to go for a more complicated design but hey, I'll just have to try for something cooler tomorrow!

three layers of awesome

Hey guys!
Yesterday I showed you a great hot pink polish from NOX Twilight and I teased you with a great layering combo... So here it is!

As a refresher, this is what NOX Twilight - Crush looks like. A hot neon pink creme.

I had just gotten some really cool stuff in the mail, so I added 2 polishes on top of this one that I don't think I've seen layered over colors like this!

First I added a coat of Max Factor - Fantasy Fire.
This tiny little polish is a gem from the UK. These are being swapped out of England like crazy, but lucky me, I have an aunt in England and she picked this up for me! Along with two of its friends, of course.
Fantasy Fire is a purple polish with intense multi-chromatic shimmer, much like the very very very extremely hard to find and expensive Clarins 230.
I haven't swatched this little beauty yet so in the meantime please check this post from Polish Ninja that compares the two!

I couldn't see all the colors in Fantasy Fire while layered over the pink, but the vibrant purple base made this crazy weird neon magenta color. It almost didn't look real when it was on my nails. The color was something I'd never seen before in polish-form.
I'm not sure if the photos quite show the uniqueness of the color but take my word for it, it was really cool!

I didn't stop there. I added a third polish that gave it a whole new look.

I added Deborah Lippmann - Across The Universe.
I don't think I've ever seen this polish layered over purple before, and it really is stunning! Especially over such a bright and shimmery purple.
ATU as it is affectionately known is a dark blue jelly polish with blue and green glitters, small and large.

Isn't it kinda strange how you see all the layers? You can see the blue jelly and the glitter, and the shimmer from Fantasy Fire, but still you can see the brightness of Crush too. Totally weird, and very cool!

I got this Lippmann when they were on sale half price after Deborah was on some television show. So this was $9. I'd have a hard time paying full price for Lippmanns, but I can do $9.

Well there you have it! Three great polishes that make a great combo. What do you think?

NOX Twilight - Crush

I am not ashamed to admit this: I am a Twilight fan.
I'm no "Twi-hard" - but I do enjoy the series. Mostly the movies.

Twilight fans are usually frowned upon, and I once was one of the frowners, but hey, they got to me. You like what you like.
And I like Twilight.
And I like nail polish.

NOX Twilight - Crush
Like I said, I'm not a huge fan, so nail polish is the only Twilight merchandise I own. But holy moly, their polish is amazing.

You might remember seeing this color in my Nailed It post from last week.

Crush is a hot hot pink. It's neon without being eye-searing. And the formula is just perfection. It covers perfectly in 2 thin coats, which is so rare for polishes this bright.
This is gonna be my #1 summer color (once summer actually comes!) It's so lovely and bright, you really need to see it in person to appreciate just how bright it is.
But like I said, it doesn't have that day-glo feel that other neons have. It's just bright. Super bright.
I said bright a lot. It's bright okay?! I need a thesaurus.

And look how pretty the bottle is! The Cullen Crest is one the front, and it looks so fancy.
The back says the brand and gives away the fact that it's a Twilight-based polish, for anyone trying to hide it!

Even if you're not a Twilight fan, I totally recommend this polish because of how amazing the color is. Just scratch the writing off the back. Problem solved.

Yum yum yum.
You can get this polish and the other 11 in the collection on the Twilight Beauty site. (Edit: There's also a UK site which ships to more countries! Check it out here.)
They are having a store-wide 50% off sale right now so you can grab them for just $3.50 each!
I only bought two, but considering how amazing this one is, I'm totally considering getting a few more.

When I wore this color, I did some pretty crazy layering over it, and I'm gonna show it to you tomorrow! Have a pleasant evening. :)

as seen on... Nailed It.

Today's mani is a great one. It is so "me," it's a shock I didn't come up with it myself.

This mani comes to you by way of Katy from Nailed It.
I don't know Katy personally but what I do know, is that she does some ballin' nail art.

As soon as I saw these nails on her blog, I knew I would have to do them myself!
I mean seriously. I should have come up with this.

I didn't use the same colors as Katy but I think our manis are equally satisfying.

The pink is NOX Twilight - Crush which is a freaking amazing hot pink, borderline neon. I'll be showing swatches of this color soon (I've already done it but haven't posted it yet.) I got this from my friend Anissa and it is just fantastic. The formula is dreamy, 2 coats that apply like butter.

The purple is Color Club - Pucci-licious which has always been and probably always will be one of my favorite polishes. I painted first with Crush and then freehanded Pucci-licious onto the top half of my nails.

The stamp is from Bundle Monster BM-11 and I used Wet N Wild - Black Creme.

Sadly I only wore this for about 10 minutes (I did most of this series in one night!) and I need to wear it sometime for several days. I adore it.

Katy, thank you for doing super cute manis. I look forward to the next time you read my polish-mind and come up with another very "Rebeca" mani!
