Butterflies

Boyfriend and I visited the California Academy of Sciences over the weekend and spent the day looking at the coolest animals, structures, and design. Of course, no trip to the city goes without buying something! (Just kidding -kind of..) He bought me this pretty painted butterfly clip that's probably meant for decor but I like it in my hair.
I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. I can't believe it's already Monday. I'm NOT looking forward to the rainy weather today. Have a beautiful Monday.

Fishtail Braid

I'm not the best with hair. I've been trying to learn how to fishtail braid for THE longest time and after many failures, I've finally got it. My braid may not be the best but I am very happy. I loved this easy peasy video.

More Butterflies for my Hair (Pack of 4 for $1.49 @ Michaels) & Upcoming Giveaway Thoughts?

I think you all know about my butterfly obsession by now since my last post where I showed you the $1 butterfly clips from H&M. Well, I wanted to show you more. I picked up these packs of 4 today for only $1.49 each (they were on sale from $2.99) at Michaels craft store. Unlike the H&M clips, these are made of feathers, have lots of glitter, are smaller, and are very fragile. I had to mix and match the clips from other sets because every set had at least 2 or more broken butterflies.

These butterflies are actually for decorating (maybe even for Christmas trees?) but since they have little clips attached, I can use them for my hair. =)

I wanted to remind everyone that my Birthday Giveaway will be ending very soon (in 5 days to be exact.) Please enter before it ends!! I also wanted to let you know that I am no sure if I will be able to sort out the winner before Christmas as I'll be very busy -it'll probably be a few days or a week or so after Christmas.

Also, am planning on having a new giveaway very soon. I originally wanted to make it a Valentine's Day Giveaway but because it's already almost January, I'm not sure if I should do that. I like to give people lots of time to enter because sometimes it's easy to forget. What do you think? Would it still be OK if it was a "Valentine's Day Giveaway" even if the giveaway ended after February 14th (Valentine's Day)? I'm planning to add lots of my favorite lip products and lots of pink and red -I'm so excited for it! Let me know your thoughts! =)

H&M Haul: Best $1 Goodies Ever!!

Last night I stopped by H&M to browse since I had a gift card. I only wanted a dress but at checkout, I saw another girl have these pretty little butterflies and I just had to run back to get a few. A few turned into 14 butterflies, bows, and bracelet sets.

I LOVE these butterflies. They can either be hair clips or pins (for clothes, bags, etc.) -they have a hair clip and safety pin attached. They're just so pretty and shiny and colorful -I want to go back and get more! I'm most likely going to use them for my hair (for when I tie it back.) I also bought extra for a giveaway. These were priced down from $3.95 and were $1.00 each.

I also picked up these 4 bracelet sets that were priced at $1.00 from $3.95. I'm going to use the beads to make other bracelets, necklaces, combs, etc. I really like the beads -especially for the price! They can even work as a nice little stocking stuffer.
And then there were these bows. I used to have lots of bows in high school but stopped liking them and gave them away. Now I like them again! These were also $1.00 each for a pair and were priced down from $4.95.

I also got this navy/white striped dress. I love stripes. The dress looks kind of plain but "on", it looks really cute -I love how casual it is. I got this for $14.95.

And lastly, I found the My Melody watch!! I just need Hello Kitty now and I'm done! I'm scared though because I think they're sold out everywhere around here.

Have a fabulous Friday everyone!! I'm looking forward to breakfast/brunch with my hubby at one of my favorite cafes/restaurants and then (Christmas) shopping at Sephora! The rest of the day will be all about relaxing and doing absolutely nothing. =)

Agh.. plans changed so I didn't get to go. =( BUT I think we're going out later tonight -hopefully.

Playful Hair Accessories

I've been hating this indecisive California weather. The sun has run away and it's been a bit gloomy and foggy outside lately to to add just a little punch of color, I've been wearing bright, playful hair accessories!
I'm a bit of a bore when it comes to my clothes -especially during the colder months. My (fall/winter) color palette consists of mainly of black, gray, black, brown, black, white, and BLACK! I don't know why but I just have an obsession with black. My boyfriend likes when I wear "bright" colors but I just usually stick to neutral shades or shades that you'd find in nature (olives, browns, etc.)
Anyways, here's a peek at some of my more "playful" hair accessories:
I made the beaded white comb and it's my favorite (of the ones I've made) because I just love all the white. I really like the blue clips too (I got them on sale at Nordstrom years ago.)
I love the little plastic "kiddy" clips. I've never grown out of them..
The little clips with the fabric bows and flowers are one of my favorites. I picked them up at a flea market years ago.
When I was a kid, I used to love hair ties with the little plastic "balls" (LOL) -I got the 3 above from The GAP when I was like 8 years old. My friend gave me the "star" ones when I was in 5th or 6th grade!

How do you like to wear your hair and what are your favorite hair accessories lately?

P.S. It's my little sister's birthday -happy birthday Lauren! I forgot to take pictures of the cupcakes we made last night for her class. =\

September 2010 Favorites: Makeup, Hair, Music, & What I've Been Reading

I actually didn't wear much makeup this month because I've just started school -I've been trying to sneak in every last minute of sleep that I can get. But there are a few products that I've been able to squeeze into my routine.
1. theBalm Shady Lady Vol. 2 Palette- This is one of my favorite palettes. I haven't had time to do any looks with multiple colors but I've been using Mischievous Marissa and Just This Once Jamie for all over the lid. (click here for swatches)
2. CARGO Blush in Polynesia- I've been using nude, peach, or apricot blushes all summer and this has been a nice change. Polynesia is a warm rosy pink with golden shimmer -perfect for the indecisive weather we've been having. One week it's cold and foggy and then the next week it's sunny and nearly 100 degrees!

3. Pari Beauty Precious Glow- I've been using this since I got it! It adds a little extra shimmer to my eyeshadows and I also use it for my browbones and cheekbones from time to time.

4. Too Faced Shadow Insurance- I've been reaching for this instead of my UDPP because my skin has been extra dry lately. I like UDPP in terms of how much brighter it makes my eyeshadows but TFSI does a good job with that too and is more gentle when my eyelids are dry.

5. MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush- I've been using this nonstop since I got it too (and it's in dire need of another washing.) I wanted this for contouring and I love it for exactly that. It sheds a little (as you can probably see in the first pic) but I haven't owned a brush that's never shedded.
6. Fresh Twlight Freshface Glow- I included this in another Monthly Favorites before but I love it! I can use it along my cheekbones, browbones, or entire face for a very subtle glow. I'm almost out so a full size will be needed soon.

Hair Favorites..
Usually, my hair is either down, in a ponytail, or in a bun. So I tried to put a twist on the usual ponytail/bun -literally! I know you've all seen this before but I took pictures anyways. All I did was part my hair in a deep side part, twist the front hair/bangs, and tie it back. I've been doing this about 3 times a week.. I'm super boring when it comes to hair.

Agh! My forehead is so dry.

Music Favorites..
Just some songs that I've been putting on repeat -none of them are new or anything.
1. Glitter In The Air- Pink
2. Can't Let Go- Anthony Hamilton
3. I Care About You- Babyface Ft. K-Ci, JoJo, Kevon, Melvin

What I've been reading..
I have books that I have to read for class but in my spare time, I've been trying to finish the 4th Twilight book -Breaking Dawn. My auntie gave my dad a Kindle a few months back and he gave it to me! I've been loving it too -I take it with me pretty much everywhere.

Have a lovely Monday everyone! What were your September favorites?
