MAC Fabulous Felines Collection (Launches August 2010)

So.. MAC is having a huge launch in August -HUGE.. like Colour Forecast huge. I'm not one to usually post about upcoming MAC launches in advance (I usually post about highly anticipated collections a week or so before.) Why?? Because there are so many other wonderful bloggers who do that anyway! And I don't feel that people need to hear it for the 4802558493th time from me. Anyways, I have to blog about this.. the info is relatively new. I first read about this on GlossMenagerie and when I googled it, I found the Christine at Temptalia had JUST done a post on it today!! I'm not going to bore you with info about every product just now (I probably will in the future when there are some pics of the collection!) but Christine has already generated an excellent list of the products. Again, when the launch date nears, I will do another post on it with more the promo pics and whatnot. For now, check out Christines post here for all the nitty gritty on the collection.

P.S. That picture is NOT a photo from the collection. I just love lions.. They're my 2nd favorite animal. (Giraffes are number 1!!)

P.S.S. I will do a post on MAC's Prep-A-Papier Collection (April 22) soon.. and I will post about To the Beach (maybe later in May?) There are so many other lovely bloggers who do this so I just don't feel like  I need to be repetitive on my blog. If you ever want to know about upcoming MAC collections, check Temptalia!

Bye Bye March, Here Comes April!: March 2010 Favorites (plus Shu Uemura is leaving the U.S.)

Since today's the last day of March, I decided that I'm going to start doing a "Monthly Favorites" post every last day of every month. This will feature my "new" or "rediscovered" products that I keep reaching for during the month. "Normal" routine items will not be featured. Here's what's on my list of March favorites:

1. MAC beauty powder in "Shell Pearl" (Liberty of London Collection)
Since I got this a few weeks ago, I can't stop using this! This was originally one of the "I guess I'll just get it" products and it turned out to be fantastic! In the beginning, I liked it mainly for its packaging (for reviews, click here and here.) Now, I'm completely in love with it and will probably use it through Spring and Summer. It gives the perfect highlight shade and "awakens" my face.
2. MAC blush ombre in "Springshine" (Spring Colour Forecast Collection)
I've been using this almost on a daily basis since Colour Forecast came out. It's really weird because I don't often use MAC products on my face -so this month has been wild. (For the review, click here.) I'm just really into nudey blushes lately and this is a bronzey nude with a hint of peach. It can also be used as a bronzer but for me, it's more of a blush.
3. LORAC 3D Multiplex gloss in "Polished"
I am so, SO in love with this gloss. I've done previous reviews on the gloss (click here) and after falling in love with it in other colors, I ran out and bought this one (click here to view swatches of all the colors from the line.) Unlike all the other colors from the line, Polished is fairly sheer -which makes it nice for an every day gloss. I've been wearing this almost daily (on my gloss only days) and love it. It's so moisturizing that I don't even panic anymore when I've forgotten my lip balm and only have this. The little holographic "ring" on the tube is starting to wear off because I've been using it so much. I will do a more indepth review on this color soon.
This is one of my rediscoveries. I used to love wearing Snob but MAC lipsticks can be a bit drying on me. It also felt a little too bright during the colder months. Now I've refallen in love with it. It's just the prettiest pastel pink ever. I find that it's helpful to first apply a generous layer of lip balm. Let that "marinate" in your lips for a good 10-15 minutes. Then apply the lipstick, blot, and reapply. This makes it feel better on my lips.
I've tried this in the other colors in the past -but never really liked them. I've had a sample of "2 Mauve" -which didn't seem to do anything for me "brightening wise" and "4 Caramel" which was too dark. They both smelled like paint too (like wall paint.) Those experiences steered me away from this primer for a long time. I saw that Sephora was offering a MUFE gift set and I jumped at the offer since it was only $29 for 3 products (travel size.) Here's what it looks like:
The thing was, if I ended up liking this, I could keep the travel size (for trips) and buy the regular size for use at home. If I didn't like it, I'd just return it. I ended up loving this. It doesn't smell like paint -like the other 2 I've tried and I'm not sure why. The primer goes on smoothly and doesn't dry my super dry (sometimes) crocodile skin out! That's a must. My makeup also lasted longer and went on smoother. Will do a more indepth review soon.
The kit also included this loose powder. I've been looking for a translucent set powder for a long time. The MAC Pro Invisible Powder dried me out and the other set powders I have are colored. This one works pretty well. My skin doesn't have any bad reactions to it so I'm really liking this stuff. The powder goes on "invisible" and I don't look chalky or pale -which I really love! (Other translucent powders can be too light.) Also, the small container will probably last me a really, really long time -I'm not planning on buying the regular size. Also, this product's only ingredient is silica. For a product with that 1 ingredient -I don't think it should be priced so high at $30. I've read from all over the place that you can find the same thing at TKB Trading or Coastal Scents. I'm probably going to buy one from TKB sooner or later, but I don't really like Coastal Scents products in general (they've made me break out and I don't like their palettes. You probably think I'm insane!) Will do a more indepth review soon.

On another note, I briefly mentioned in my last post that Shu Uemura would be leaving the United States for good. So I guess no more Shu Uemura at Nordstrom or Sephora or anywhere here in the U.S.! That really is a bummer because the brand is just lovely. However, we U.S. customers can still purchase Shu Uemura products through their website so that's some good news! They offer free shipping for $50+ orders (hope that still applies in the future.) This makes me want to buy their products ASAP but several Nordstroms don't carry the line. And it really stinks that Nordstrom doesn't offer free shipping unless your order is a whopping $200. Come on Nordstrom. I guess I can order directly from their site but I don't want to deal with online returns if I don't like the product. I really want some of their pink and nude Rouge Unlimited lipsticks (most are sold out at Sephora online.) Anyways, I read about this here on Temptalia first.

What were your March favorites? How do you feel about Shu Uemura leaving us?!

Nudey Tuesday (new blog series): Shiseido's Perfect Rouge Lipstick "BE208 Baby" (Review & Swatches)

I'm starting a little series for the blog called "Nudey Tuesday" (nude-ee)-which will feature at least 1 "nudey" cosmetic/beauty product every tuesday. What is nudey? Anything nude or neutral colored/toned! I love my neutrals (eyeshadow, blush, etc) and I really, really love my nude lipsticks and glosses. This is a series dedicated to everything wonderful and nude.

The first Nudey Tuesday post will feature Shiseido's Perfect Rouge lipstick in "BE208 Baby." To me, Japanese brands like Shiseido and She Uemura (which is leaving the U.S.!!!) drizzle with pure beauty luxory. I don't own many Shiseido products at all -but am always tempted to purchase. I usually steer away simply because they aren't offered in the Sephora store -just online (available at Nordstrom too.) Plus, it's also a bit pricey at $25. I also like testers and being able to swatch what I buy first. Anyways, I had a VIB 10% off coupon a while back and used it to buy this nice little lipstick:

The Packaging: Shu lipstick tubes are shaped kind of cool. They're not "round" like most tubes. They'e kind of squareish with rounded corners and sides that go "inward" (hope that makes some sense.) The tube is sleek and kind of a black with purply silvery tint?! Omgosh I have no idea how to describe it -check out the pic above! Anyways -packaging is nice so this category gets an "A."
The Product: For $25, I expect some really nice lipstick. This is really moisturizing (I didn't need lip balm prior to application) and it feels good on my lips. It's weird because while the lipstick is pigmented, it goes on sort of sheer so you have to build up the color. I tend to like more opaque lipsticks -it did have a nice sheen to it though. it goes on almost like a gloss. The texture is glossy and moisturizing.

Swatches..
The Color: The color is a medium true nude that won't wash you out. To me, it has the slightest hint of pink and peach but overall -the color is mainly a natural medium beige nude. I expect this to be great for people of all different skin tones. The lipstick looks fairly neutral -not too warm, not too cold. For me though, I wanted it to be paler because I love those light nude lippies -yes, even the ones that make you look "dead." However, I don't think those work for people of all skin tones, this does.

Lip Swatches..
Overall: I think this is a really nice lipstick for those who want a very natural, true nude without it being too light or dark. For those who want a nude with more "oomph", I don't think this is it. This is very low key and I've seen this color done before for cheaper. I guess you're also paying for packaging and formula. The lipstick is packed with moisture and comes in a nice tube. This is glossy though so those who like more matte lipsticks should stay away. The lipstick is a bit sheer too but if you build it up, the pigmentation is there. Overall, I think this is a great lipstick but for $25, I rather buy a color that I'll like more (personal opinion, others may think this is the perfect nude color) since I enjoy ligter nudes. I want to try "Spiced Cream next -which looks like a lighter, pinker toned nude.

Do you have any Shiseido lipsticks? Which would you recommend?

MAC Art Supplies Collection Available Today

I just wanted to give a little heads up that MAC's Art Supplies collection is now available to order online at Nordstrom.com. (Click here to purchase.) The products are not yet available to buy in stores or at MAC counters. They will be available to buy on Thursday April 1st. I'm also guessing that MAC will start selling the products online at their website tomorrow Tuesday March 30 (new collections usually start selling on the site either the Monday or Tuesday before the official launch date. The products are available for presale though at both MAC stores and counters. I have a very strong feeling that the products are going to sell out in the first few days. Sooooo.. PUT IN YOUR ORDERS RIGHT NOW if you're paranoid about the items selling out. I know I am. =P

UPDATE (Tuesday March 30): I was right LOL. Products available for purchase on MAC website. If you purchase from the MAC site, you can get free shipping. Whereas with Nordstrom.com, you only get free shipping for orders over $100 or any purchase with shoes (code: SHOES.) Be sure to check RetailMeNot for codes -I've been using the code LASH310 for MAC purchases and it's been working. Not sure if it works anymore but give it a try (free shipping + Zoom Lash sample.)

Now.. onto the haircut.. EEK!!

Yesterday out of pure spontaneity, I got a haircut. I've been sort of wanting one.. you know, just a few inches off to get rid of the dead ends. My hair was a little past my waist so I wanted to cut it to around my chest so that it wouldn't be so "heavy" for Spring and Summer. I didn't ask for much.. all I said was, "Can you please cut it to here (pointing towards my chest) and with lots of layers?" Somehow along those few seconds of me explaining what I wanted, my words were interpretted into "cut Kali's hair to shoulder length!" She cut about 9 whole inches off. I'm not too grumpy about it since hair does grow back -I just don't really like it. Oh, and the whole time, she told me my hair was "tangled" at least 15 times. Her statements either went like, "Did you use a comb?!! You're hair is so tangled!!" or "Ugh, so tangled." Alright, I know that I have frizzyish, wavy, and sometimes even nappy hair and it can get tangly -but that doesn't mean you put down the customer. Bad customer service if you ask me. Here's the new and improved "tangled mess":

I look really silly here.

Not really a complete FOTD.. just for running errands..
Products Used:
1. Revlon Brow Pencil with gel (just used pencil side. I don't normally do my brows with this so it looks really weird.)
2. MAC Pearlglide Pencil in "Black Russian"
4. Prestige "My Biggest Lashes" mascara
5. Stila Contour Palette
6. MAC "Prim & Proper" Blush
7. MAC lipstick in "Snob" (blotted)
8. LORAC loose powder

Stila Jewel Eye Shadow Palette (Review & Swatches)

The Stila "Jewel Eye Shadow" Palette (retails for $32) was first debuted a few months ago with Stila's "Jewel Collection." When I first saw this on Sephora's website, I was so intrigued by the palette. I rushed over to my favorite Sephora store (in Walnut Creek, CA) and scooped up the only one available along with the Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland palette and other various products filled with beauty goodness. (Click here for that haul.)

The Packaging: The packaging of this palette is pretty standard. The bottom that contains the eyeshadows is black and the lid is clear so that you can see the shadow pans inside. There are also some silver stars along the border of the lid with a silver Stila logo in the center. I have to say that the palette is quite small though.
The Product: I love, love, LOVE this palette. Although the palette really tiny -I have to say I've never seen or used anything like this. (Note: The pans are about a dime size each so beware of its "petite-ness.") I really hope that Stila makes more of these palettes in the future. First off, I believe that these shadows are powders (who knows.. I might be wrong) but they feel like cream shadows. They definitely don't feel like powders but I know they aren't creams. When applied, the shadows are not super pigmented but they are buildable. (For my swatches, I layered them on about 4 or 5 times. 1 layer was very sheer but still produced an amazing amount of shimmer.) That doesn't steer me away from the palette though because I think these are meant to be used on top of other "regular shadows." Each color is jam packed with glitter -but there's no fall out. The finishing effect gives my eye lids a dewy look and looks like a waterfall of sparkling glitter. I swear -I've never seen anything quite like this.

The Colors:
1. Pink Quartz- I'd say this is the "nude" of the quad. The color is sort of a medium rosey color with a hint of peachy nude and lots of silver glitter.
2. Amethyst- A darker plummy purple with gold glitter.
3. Black Diamond- This one really won me over. It's an intense black with silver glitter. This one really looks wet -like a sea of black, glittering water. (Black water?! Is that weird??) This would look great all over the lid (a bit too much on me personally but will look absolutely amazing on someone else.)
4. Golden Topaz- A golden peachy color with goldish glitter. I usually use this over my neutral shadows.

Swatches..

Above (from left): Black Diamond, Golden Topaz, Amethyst, Rose Quartz

Overall: Gosh I love this palette so much. Perfect for the girl who loves all things sparkly. If you're planning on buying this -remember, don't expect the palette to be huge because it's pretty tiny. I didn't want to pay $32 for such a itsy bitty palette but it was well worth it. I've even had my male friends comment on my "cool makeup" and boys usually don't notice that sort of thing! My bf hates it though -he hates all makeup with the exception of eyeliner and a bit of gloss. Anyways, I love it and I seriously recommend it to anyone who wants to add a little sparkle to their lives.

*Note: Like I've mentioned before, I'm quite behind on posts. For months (when I wasn't updating my blog on a regular basic) I've taken pictures and reviewed products without posting about them. So just as a little notice, the next few weeks -maybe even months, will contain older product reviews. And of course, I will include newer products as well. Most the products to be reviewed are still available in stores currently so they're not super, super old -just things that came out a few months or so ago.

Belated Post: My Haul from MAC's Liberty of London Collection (Review & Swatches)

So here's what I got from MAC's Liberty of London collection (I know this post is soooo late.. sorry!!) I picked up Shell Pearl beauty powder, Prim & Proper blush, Ever Hip, Blooming Lovely, and Peachstock lipsticks. I really want to go get Birds & Berries eyeshadow and Blue India lacquer.. hopefully they still have them when my No-Buy's over (very soon!! Yay!)

The Packaging: I simply adore the packaging. From the boxes to the actual product packaging -I love it! I especially love that the product containers are white. I'm so used to the standard black, gold, or silver and I love that I now have some lipstick tubes and compacts in sleek white! I love the beautiful, artsy designs. They give that perfect "pop" of color without crossing the line of being too childish. I also thought it was cool how the lipsticks came in their normal boxes but with the "LOL" sleeve on the oustide.

Packaging Pics..

Product Pics..
The Product and Color:
1. "Shell Pearl" Beauty Powder- I'm really loving this stuff. I've replaced my Smashbox Tint with this now that there's been tons of sun and warm weather where I live (I compared the 2 products in a post here.) The color is a light peachy shade with the slightest touch of coral. Shell Pearl is a great highlighter for me without being too light. I don't wear it as an all over powder/highlighter or blush because I have medium skin -will work great on those with fairer skin tones. It's "just right" as a highlighter above my cheekbones and I love to use it with a little blush or bronzer.
2. "Prim & Proper" Blush- This is a nice nudey beige blush. I was really psyched about this when the collection first came out but now that I have it -I don't find it a must-have whatsoever. It adds a nice touch and can be useful for achieving a more "low key" look but I don't think it's something I need. I do like how it's not overly matte though -more of a satin.
3. "Ever Hip" Lipstick (Cremesheen)- This is a peachy orange lipstick with a hint of coral. I expected it to be very opaque since it's a Cremesheen but to me, it applied more like a Lustre! It was a bit sheer -but definitely buildable. It's fairly pigmented once you add a few more layers.
4. "Blooming Lovely" Lipstick (Amplified)- This was the lipstick that I was most looking foward to. I love pale lavender/purple lipsticks so I was really excited when I first heard about this. On the MAC website, it's descibed as a greyed lilac mauve. The word "grey" really scared me off and I opted out of buying this in the beginning. Later when I swatched it at my local Nordstrom, I fell in love! This is a very "mod" color and the "greyed" part isn't as bad as it sounds. I'd say MAC's decription is accurate although it looks brighter on the lips which gives that mod effect.
5. "Peachstock" Lipstick (Satin)- Since this is a permanent PRO color, I wasn't going to get it. However, I love the packaging too much to pass it up! =P This is a good peachy nude -something to pair with smokey, dramatic eyes or something to go with an every day natural look. I like that it has that hint of peach to keep you from looking washed out or "dead." The coverage is opaque but I did find this to me a tad drying.

Swatches..

Above NO FLASH (from left): Blooming Lovely, Ever Hip, Peachstock lipsticks
Above WITH FLASH (from left): Blooming Lovely, Ever Hip, Peachstock lipsticks
Above NO FLASH (from left): Prim & Proper blush, Shell Pearl beauty powder
Above WITH FLASH (from left): Prim & Proper blush, Shell Pearl beauty powder

Overall: I didn't expect myself to be so drawn in with this collection. I thought every product and color suited the collection well and I just loved the packaging. In my opinion, the must-haves were Shell Pearl beauty powder, Blooming Lovely lipstick, and Ever Hip lipstick. I didn't bother with any of the glosses although they did look promising -nothing really looked "amazingly unique" though. Again, I plan on buying Birds & Berries eyeshadow and the Blue India lacquer when I have a chance -hopefully they don't sell out soon!

Tip: The site just restocked on all their Liberty of London products. All the lipsticks, Shell Pearl beauty powder, and the nail lacquers were quick to sell out when they were first available. I'd scoop these products up ASAP. I've seen lots of people on MakeupAlley trying to trade for these products!!

Out of curiousity, have any of you ever purchased a beauty product soley for the luscious packaging? MAC seems to have this effect on me.. but I'm happy that the products are usually good.

Sephora- More Rewards! (and new sale items..)

So you know how Sephora already has the Beauty Insider (point per dollar you spend) and VIB rewards programs -well they just started a new one. With the new Skincare Challenge, you receive "1 credit" per skincare facial item that you purchase. The product must be at least $20 or more to get the credit. For every 4 credits you earn, you can redeem them for 1 free featured reward product. Unlike the "regular" Beauty Insider program, you get 1 credit per product instead of 1 point per dollar. However, I think the rewards from this program go towards a bigger, full sized prize when you redeem the 4 credits. Also, you still get your normal Beauty Insider points along with the credits. You'll know if a product you're buying goes towards the Skincare Challenge program because on the product page it will say "Skincare Challenge Eligible" -see example here. As of now, this program runs through this year until December 31, 2010.
I also wanted to let you in on the new sale items in the SALE section of the site. There are a few Tarte and Stila items going for great prices right now. Here are some products that are on sale..

Check the sale section for more deals!

Sales & Deals in Beauty (through end of March)

Today when I opened my email, my inbox was filled with some enticing deals from my favorite beauty retailers. Too bad I'm on a No-Buy -but thought I'd share:
$20 off $100 Purchase at Beauty.com (Expires March 31, 2010)
(No code needed -automatically added to your cart.) You automatically get free shipping too when you spend $50 (I think!) and I always wait for this coupon. They used to have this offer more last year and this is the first time since like -last November, that they've had it! BOOOO! Anyways, this is a great time to stock up on your favorite products. They carry a lot of the same brands as Sephora so usually I just stock up on refills or a new product with this coupon. It IS 20% off -better than waiting all year for the Sephora F & F sale. Oh and beware, certain brands don't apply to this promotion (stinks! I know..) Offer does not include gift cards, gift certificates and Bare Escentuals, Darphin, DKNY, Donna Karan, Jane Iredale, Lab Series, Missoni, Michael Kors, Mustang, Origins, Sean John, Smashbox, and Tommy Hilfiger products. U.S., APO/FPO/DPO and U.S. Territory shipping destinations only. International orders are not eligible to receive this offer.
Spend $50 and get a free set of 6 mini Mocktail Bar glosses at LORACcosmetics.com
(No code needed -automatically added to your cart.) You also get free shipping anytime you spend $50. I love LORAC! One of my favorite makeup lines. Check out the VIP section too -discontinued palettes and other items for really cheap (some items are only around $5.) Offer valid while supplies last.

Buy 1 item, get 2nd item for 50% off at E.L.F. with this code: SPRING (Expires April 1, 2010)
Be sure to stock up on Studio Line brushes! I just got some and I do like them -especially the kabuki. The only bad thing about shopping at E.L.F. is that you can't combine promo codes. Last time I had a "50% off all Studio Line products" promo, my shipping ended up being over half of the price I paid for the actual products! I don't like their shipping prices.
Apocalyptic 7 Piece Nail Kit on sale at UrbanDecay.com
Was $26, now $18. I'd go ahead and get some other goodies too. You get free shipping when you spend $50 or more. Click here for the nail kit.

15%-20% off at OldNavy.com. Use code: ONSAVEBIG (Expires March 28, 2010)
Spend $75 and get 15% off OR spend $100 (or more) and get 20%

Tip: When you sign up for emails from your favorite stores, you get great deals! You'll be the first to know when there's a sale, new products, etc. Sure you don't want junk mail so make sure you don't sign up for every website out there -just the stores you frequent. (With Gmail, I've actually never gotten junk mail in all these years.) Also, sign up for brands you like -even though you've never been to the actual store. For instance, NARS, LORAC, and Smashbox will send me some amazing offers from their websites and NOT Sephora. Although I always buy their products from Sephora, sometimes they have the best online deals (so I'd rather buy online.) Hey I rather buy from smashbox.com and get freebies than buy Smashbox at Sephora and not get freebies! It only makes sense! And last thing, remember to check online for coupons -in store and online. Before I go to the mall, I always look for coupons for my favorite stores. My favorite "bargain hunter" site is RetailMeNot.. always has great coupons/codes!

Availability: Launched today March 23, 2010 (ONLINE ONLY)

So I was pretty surpised when I found new stuff on the MAC site today -I didn't hear of anything coming out. I looked through the products and I don't think there is anything new in the collection. All the colors are either from the permanent line or from previous limited edition collections.
