BVCG November Galleria - Slip Knot Booklet - One Liners

Slip Knot - One Liners
Size: 6"w x 4.5"h x  3/4" thk

Our Galleria topic for November 2023 is "One Liners"... since one liners don't take up much room... I decided to do a bunch of them and create a booklet.

On Fabriano 1264 Mixed Media pape, sprinkling the paper with Brusho w/c powders in various colors. Used a pointed nib in Fickle style lettering. When all the pages were done I decided to add a bit of flourish details in the open spaces.

The back and front covers were covered with some of my Brusho background on the Fabriano paper, and I wrote the title on the front with a Zig Writer and shadowed with Kuretake "Gold Mica" ink and a pointed nib.

I used a slip knot style for binding using a blue 4ply waxed linen thread.

Triangle Break Frame - Simplify - Ha Ha

Simplify... I'm rolling on the floor laughing... This was not simple... When I don't have continuous lines without breaks it starts to get very confusing... but I'm glad I persevered.

Fickle - Tread Lightly

This is my 3rd piece I created for the Fish Creek exhibit here in Calgary from Oct 30 to Nov 27th.I hadn't realized we could enter 3 pieces... so created this one yesterday. I love Fickle writing it's just so funky... and it's been a wile I haven't gotten in to pen and pencil drawing.

BVCG Butterfly & Leopard

http://yogiemp.com/Calligraphy/Artwork/BVCG2018_Words.html
The editors from our Guild ask the members to do one of the words in a list calligraphically.

The words are: horses   dogs   birds   dragons  cats  deer  buck  leopard   goat  pony   mice  chickens   turtles   brown fox   butterfly   ladybugs  grasshopper   eagles  octopus

So today I decided to do the butterfly and since I was on a roll - BIG GRIN also did the Leopard...

MC June/13_Vintage Clock - Time Flies

Had a nice play day with my friend yesterday. While she was die cutting a bunch of stuff, having fun with my dies... I was creating a couple cards using my newest dies and stamps.

The vintage clock is from Memory Box. You can buy a stamp to go with it, but I decided to just make a digital one in my Adobe program and cut with my electronic cutter, then color it.

This is a tall card 4"w x 8.5"h side folded white card. I sponged Distress all over it, mainly using my dirty sponged and not adding more color. Then sponged a bit of Walnut Stain around the edges. Dropped water droplets and dried. Stamped a distress background stamp (Glitz Designs) with Walnut stain and just tapping here and there.

Adhered my clock Punched out a scalloped circle and stamped with Penny Black "Glory of Modesty" bkgr'd stamp and clear embossed. Adhered to clock. Colored the hands with Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed.

The swirly pieces are Impression Obsession die cuts (062-F) from white cardstock. Sponged with Distress "Peacock Feathers" and embossed with Rustique Tin Can embossing powder. Added the half pearls adhering them with some Golden's Gel Medium.

Wrote in the words "Time Flies" in my Fickle font with a Micron pen. Stamped the Thinking of You (Quietfire Design) with the black and clear embossed.

The butterfly (Memory Box "Kaleidoscope") was die cut from a scrap piece of decorated paper, embossed with Stamp n Bond, then sprinkled with eCraft Designs Warm Diamonds micro fine glitter and heated to set.

MC Apr/13 - A Little Birdie

Thought I'd make a one layer card again... a birthday card for a guy friend.

I stamped the image (Local King Rubber) onto a tall narrow white card (4"w x 8.5"h) using Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed. Sponged Distress (Faded Jeans, Broken China & a touch of Worn Lipstick) in the sky to mimic clouds, then spritzed and misted water - dried.

Wrote in my words with a Micron pen in my Fickle lettering I created recently.

MC Apr/13 - Dreamweaver Singing in The Rain - Music

Dreamweaver's challenge this month is "rains, clouds, mists"... normally that would be a depressing subject and something to be avoided... but then all of a sudden this song came into my head - and I'm happy again. BIG GRIN

I stamped the background (Impression Obseesion CAC "Clouds") using Distress Stormy Sky & Salty Ocean. The card is larger than the stamp, so repeated in the bottom section. You can't see the join because I strategically put my fence along the join line. ROFL.

I seem to get good use out of this musical notes stencil (Dreamweaver LJ853) which I pasted with Dreamweaver's Glossy Black, masking off the words on the stencil that ran in the center. Used the same paste for the cats at the bottom (LM266) - love these cats, it's another stencil I use a lot... BIG GRIN. Let everything dry, then wrote in my lyrics by Gene Kelly, using a .02 Micron pen and my "Fickle Font" I created recently.

Die cut the fence and gate (Memory box) from black cardstock, adhered it to card, cutting away around the cats.

Now the cats needed something to be so engrossed in, so I punched out a little dragonfly from some yellowish decorated paper I had made. I added Glitter Ritz "Cool Highlights" on the wings and colored the body. Must admit it's a bit surrealistic with the cats sitting on the clouds... I guess I must be in a strange mood.

On the inside I stamped the quote (Quietfire Design) with Versafine Black Onyx and sponged Distress Black Soot through the cat stencil. I'm probably going to give this card to a friend for her birthday. She loves cats and since I'm not a wordy person... music says it all.

MC Apr/13 - Quill Weave - Take Time

The card is side folded 5"w x 7"h white cardstock. The background was masked and sponged with Distress pads. Stamped the quote (Quietfire Design) - minus the last word "Season" with Versafine "Olympia Green", then wrote in my word "Spring" with a Micron black pen.

I wanted to do another sample of weaving for my upcoming weaving/combing class. It's your basic weaving technique, but then the item, in this case a basket, is cut out on the diagonal of the weaving.

I filled it with a bunch of fringed flowers. I had cut the fringes quite some time ago, so it was time to use them... On some of the fringes I colored part of the fringe with a Distress Marker. Added some flourish details and some green marquis oval leaves.

MC Mar/13 - Quill Daffodils - HB Friend

side view (detail of two tone paper)
It's one of my friends birthdays next week, and she's part of our quilling group, so thought I'd make her a quilled card...

The card is side folded 4.25"w x 5.5"h white cardstock.

I made the daffodils white petaled and a bright orangey yellow center which I crimped before coiling and creating an inverted grape.
frontal view

The stems and leaves were colored on one side of a mint quill paper using
Distress markers in Crushed Olive. The leaves is a new technique for me. I cut out some pale green vellum in the shape of my leaves, then wrapped it and adhered the individual strips for the veins. Tedious, so probably won't do that again... Adhered everything to the card, then wrote in my words using my Fickle Font I created recently. Put in some colored pencil details.

Stamped the "Happy Birthday" from the 10 tiny tag sentiments from Quietfire Design using Versafine Black Onyx.

MC March/13 - Quill Spring Tulips

side view
frontal view
One of my quilled pieces done in my last quilling session... with a little calligraphy thrown in. I was meaning to wrap quill papers around a 1" w ruler and then fill it... and finally did that. I like the simplicity of it and the way it turned out.

Side folded 4.25" x 5.5" white card.

I filled the tulips with beehive coils. Calligraphy done with a Micron pen using my newest alphabet I created from some rubber stamps I saw. I'm calling them "Fickle"

It fits for a few challenges which I will put in tomorrow:

Journal Pages...

So I was working in some journals this weekend. It's been AGES since I've done that. Really enjoyed playing in them.

One of the journals is a traveling journal from Anne Atkinson in BC. I wasn't scheduled to work in it, but when she mentioned it would be handed over to someone at our Guild meeting, I took the opportunity to sneak in. BIG GRIN. Her theme was Trees. And these are the spreads I did for her.

You can click on images to enlarge.

This first one was supposed to have a coffee bean tree or branch image, but I got carried away with just coffee... but since coffee comes from trees, I think I can get away with it. I love doing quotes going round and round the page, although for readability I should have done them slightly off set. As it was I put arrows to show where the next line starts. The word "coffee" is quilled with very narrow cut cardstock quilled paper cut with my Linguini setting on my pasta machine, then the letters were filled with Beehive coils.

This next piece uses my latest alphabet I created from rubber stamps I recently saw. No exemplar or name of font, so had no choice but to make my own... (I call it "Fickle" Font) Using a Local King Background stamp of the trees with birds on one side of the page and my quote on the other. Clear embossed the image and sponged Distress blues for the sky.

These next pieces are from our Guild's "Play" Journal. Each person can put her mark anywhere she wants. She can start a page, or continue on with someone else's page. Whatever.I came across the cup page and new I had to put something in there...

Then I came across the leaf page... So did a pointed pen word and shadowed it.

And then my final entry, that square area was calling me... I had just taught a fun lettering class, so I used an eraser square for the earth letters and pressed it onto my craft mat that had Distress Stains on it. Since the lettering on the page was pressure release pencil letters, I decided to stay with the same type. I'm happy with my contributions.
