Back in November I was told I could walk through my Granny's house and pick out anything I wanted. I brought home this bird wall vase. Once I got it home I knew immediately where I was going to put it. I had bought this bird picture at an antique store a few years ago. I knew Granny's bird wall vase would look perfect with it. It makes me happy to see it hanging on my wall.

Detours!
The past two days have been nothing but detours for me. Yesterday I had plans to do something. Then my Young Lady called and wanted me to bring her a jacket at school. I ran a few errands and I had planned on picking my Little Man up at school. I wrote the note that he was going to be picked up and to please not put him on the bus. Well.... They put him on the bus! So I had to chase the bus down to get him off. That was yesterday and this was today!
I waited until it was time to go get my Little Man at school. The water was still up, but it wasn't that deep that I went ahead and drove through it.
You know me, I've got to get the action shots if I can! I had to take pictures of me driving through the water!
Once I got through I was able to see the flooding that was going on down the road. The water was high, but isn't it so pretty with that blue sky!
This area seems to hold water anymore because it has been a very wet Winter. I noticed that there was something swimming in that water so I zoomed in to try to see what it was.
A pair of ducks was having a great time today in the water. So here we have it, yet another detour today! I had planned on staying home today. If I had been up earlier and knew what was going on with the water I would have probably went out earlier because you never know how long it will take the water to go down enough for you to get out. I did already have our flood bug out bags already packed and in my truck just in case as I knew it was going to storm last night. I knew flooding was a possibility. I just wish my husband hadn't had downplayed it like he did, but then again I did get to get more beauty sleep because of it!

Early this morning a storm came through that put down some rain. My husband made it out with the kids this morning. I called to see if the water was up. He said no and he didn't think it would get up. Being extremely tired because I just don't sleep good at night because of the medicine I am taking I went back to sleep. I even stayed in bed when my mom called. I finally got up and seen that the water was indeed up. I didn't have time to guess as to if the water was still going up or if it was going down. I hurried and got ready to head out so I could get the kids from school. I called the school to let them know I was picking them up instead of them riding the bus home.
When I tried to leave the water was just a littler higher than I felt comfortable driving through so I turned around so I wouldn't drown! I didn't want to ruin my sweet ride so I stayed on the other side. I did happen to see the neighbor who lives right by this area of the road. He assured me that I could drive through it as his son had just went through it, but when he said the water was going down decided to wait it out as long as I could.I waited until it was time to go get my Little Man at school. The water was still up, but it wasn't that deep that I went ahead and drove through it.

The Robins are Here!
On Wednesday of last week when we were flooded in my Little Man looked out the window and said, "look at all of those birds in the yard"! I got up to see what was going on.
I was surprised to see that it was Robins in the yard! Robins are a sure sign that spring is right around the corner! In my opinion, Robins are more accurate than that pesky old ground hog!
Here's to hoping that spring will come soon! I'm so over this cold weather we've been having. Yeah, I'd love a big deep snow, but at this point the kids were supposed to get out of school the end of May. Now they will have to go to school until June 11th! I don't ever remember going to school that late into the summer. The sad thing is they started the kids way sooner this summer too. Between the snow days and the water crisis days along with the days that they let them off when they could have went this is what happened.

Thursday Turkey's
I had to stop and take a picture of the turkey on my way to church Sunday morning. I only got to take this one picture because another car was coming from the other direction and scared them back up into the woods....

Green Bottom
This past week my kids have been on SPRING BREAK! It has been so nice not having to be on any schedules. Monday when we were out doing a little shopping I decided to take the kids for a little drive not far from where we were at.
Green Bottom Wildlife Management Area is located on former plantation lands of U.S. Congressman and Confederate General Albert G. Jenkins. The 1,096 acres in Cabell County and Mason County are located along the banks of the Ohio River about 16 miles north of Huntington, West Virginia. The Green Bottom WMA land is a mixture of farmland, mixed hardwood forest, wetlands, and open water. The Jenkins Plantation Museum is located on Corps of Engineers land adjacent to the WMA. The museum is located in the original 1835 Green Bottom Plantation House, and is operated by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.
When I drove down to the wetland area a few ducks flew up to get away from us. Then this wild looking bird landed on some brushy type trees. This was the highlight of the trip for me!
Green Bottom WMA is also a popular location for watching wildlife. Over 100 species of birds are regularly seen each year along the river bottom. More than 30 mammals, as well as several amphibians and reptiles, are available for viewing. Structures such as nesting boxes and man-made islands have been built to improve the habitats for species ranging from the Jefferson Salamander to the Gray Fox. The Green Bottom Nature Trail and boardwalk provides easier access to the wetlands and forest lands of the WMA.
I plan on taking the kids back when it greens up more and the sun is out. It is a beautiful drive.

Snow on the Eagle!
I know I'm a little obsessed with the eagle, but I can't help it. Earlier today I got to see the mommy eagle feeding the babies. Then the daddy eagle came and sat down on them to keep them warm. An hour goes by and I turn on the live cam to see if I can see the babies again only to discover that it either snowed or a hail storm hit the eagle's nest! I was able to capture some pictures to show you. I was on my new computer when she was feeding them so I didn't get any captures of that. I will try though! lol I'm loving these eagles!

Baby Eagle has Hatched!
I'm thrilled to share with the world that one of the baby eagle eggs has hatched today! I've been watching the eaglecam for a good month now. I have pictures to share that I've been capturing, but I can't share them right now because I have a new computer! The pictures are on the old computer. So I'll forgo the pictures because you'll want to try to get a sneak peek of that baby right now if you can see it. Right now the mommy is sitting on the baby and the other unhatched egg. I did in fact see the baby eagle that has hatched, but I didn't see it for very long before the mommy sat back down on them to keep them warm. Here's the link: http://outdoorchannel.com/eaglecam

Woody!
Woody has been stopping by the yard to enjoy himself some of the dogs deer bones they brought in this winter. I didn't even know that birds would eat bones! I have seen a nuthatch in the yard and I think that is what it too is doing.
This year was a really good year for the girls as they brought in a lot of different deer bones. Last year they didn't bring in any that I can remember. Come grass cutting time we will gather up all of these bones and trash them.
Can you see the holes that Woody has made into this bone?
I took these pictures the other day, but I seen Woody out there again today pecking on the deer bones in our yard.

Hoot~
On our way to church about 2 weeks ago I happened upon this beautiful owl! I was so excited when I seen it. I passed it up, turned around and went back to take some pictures. My pictures just weren't turning out good because I was too far away from it and it was so dark outside. I'm sure the people in the house that it was near couldn't figure out what in the world I was doing with my sunroof open and my hand snapping pictures out the opening, but I didn't care! I needed a picture of that owl! It was at a time when there is a lot of traffic on our road from people coming home from work so I had to move my truck because that part of the road is basically a one lane road. Living in the country you have to drive down the road at least a quarter of a mile to even find a place to turn around. When I came back through the owl was still there. That was when I got these pictures of that sweet looking creature from God. He was looking right at me at one time, but unfortunately it took my camera too long to snap the picture. I can't complain though because I got to see this amazing creating from God and I did get two decent pictures to prove it!
I love living in the country! You never know what you are going to see. I really haven't seen many owls even though I do hear them so I know they are here. I consider it a blessing when I get to see any of God's creations like this. I was blessed that night along with my kids.

Wild Grouse
While we were driving down a gravel road while on vacation we came upon a wild grouse in the middle of the road. Her babies are off to the side in the grass.

She wouldn't turn around and look at me but I did get a decent picture of her.

I love seeing God's creatures when we are out.

Bird Attacks My Truck!
Yesterday I went to get into my truck and there was bird poop all over it. I mean all over it! Some bird had pooped on all four sides of my truck that was sitting right outside the garage. There are no trees around that area at all. The only nest that is on the gutters down spout curve was empty. I couldn't figure out what bird would be doing this until my son came in the house and said there is a red bird trying to get in the front of the truck. I thought perhaps it was just something that happened yesterday and today it would be finished with attacking my truck. I was wrong!
Here she is! Mrs. Cardinal. She's on top of the hood of my truck right on the edge.
Mrs. Cardinal is the main aggressor in the assault of my truck. Mr. Cardinal is hanging out and watching her but so far I haven't seen him take part in the assault of my truck.
This morning it rained really hard for a few hours so it washed most of the bird poop off of my truck but she is getting it dirty again.
And lastly, you've got to love blogger and the way my pictures will sometimes upload wrong! Mrs. Cardinal just isn't going to give up. She attacked my truck up until it was time for her to go to bed. I've moved it to different locations in our driveway near the garage and she still attacks it. I also have a button that pulls in my mirrors so I did that so she wouldn't be distracted by seeing her reflection in them. Oddly she doesn't care about attacking my husband's car. Mrs. Cardinal, please leave my truck alone!
