State Senators, Representatives Send Letter to AMITA Health, Nurses Union, Urge Quick Resolution to Strike Stalemate at Joliet Hospital

Senators Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant and Pat McGuire, and Representatives John Connor, Natalie Manley, and Larry Walsh Jr. sent the following letter regarding the ongoing nurses' strike at AMITA St. Joseph's Medical Center on July 17, 2020: Letter sent by Senators McGuire and Bertino-Tarrant, and Representatives Manley, Connor, and Walsh urging leaders of AMITA Healh, St. Joseph Medical Center, St. Joseph's Nurses Association, and the Illinois Nurses Association to reach a settlement. The letter is addressed to leaders from both the St. Joesph's Nurses Union and Amita Health, which owns St. Joseph Medical Center. The letter reads: "The stalemate between Amita Health and the St. Joseph's Nurses Association becomes more damaging every day.   Sporadic communication between the two parties is not working.   We call on AMITA and SJNA to bring the full bargaining teams to the table immediately for sustained negotiations in good faith to r...

Joliet-Area State Senators Vote Against Expansion of Gambling in Illinois

State Senators Pat McGuire and Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant voted against a bill allowing the construction of five new casinos in Illinois.  The bill-- State Bill 1739 --was passed by the Illinois State Senate on May 1, 2013. Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant issued the following statement following her vote against the gaming expansion bill: “While I understand the revenue that gaming expansion can provide our state, especially in terms of education and social services, I am worried about the impact that this expansion will have on my community.” Bertino-Tarrant fears the economic and local impact that increased gaming will have on residents of Will and Kendall counties.
