Mix It Up Challenge Blog - Ink Smooshing

Hi friends - I hope this note finds you doing well. How's your weather? Ours has been hot, hot, hot...and humid! But Fall is just around the corner, BUT I'm not going to wish the days away!

At Mix It Up Challenge, we're playing with ink smooshing - I LOVE ink smooshing and although I'm not thrilled with this card, I do love how the cupcake turned out. 😀 I used Tim Holtz watercolor paper for the cupcake; the cupcake and stencil (background) are from Pretty Pink Posh.

I started by stenciling the background, then stamped over the top with Simon Says Stamp's YOU background stamp in a gray ink. I die cut the main panel and popped up the border.

I used Simon Says Stamp's Pawsitively Saturated inks, it's tough to see but there is hot pink, and orange in the frosting. The flower is a light pink. The wrapper is done in purples. Once dry, I dripped on some water droplets and dried with a paper towel; I then stamped circles from Reverse Confetti's Poppies stamp set onto the wrapper (Reverse Confetti is no longer in business, but this is still one of my favorite stamp sets!)

To finish it off, I made the card into a shaker with lots of little shaker bits inside!

Thanks for stopping by - I hope you are inspired to join us with either ink smooshing OR anything goes; we enjoy seeing your creations!

Full Front Shaker Card

Hey friends - how are you doing?

I'm doing good, I've been creating a lot but haven't had time to photograph much! I recently made this full front shaker card - what a learning experience! It was for my boyfriend who turned 6, 😁, and loves elephants. There are 5 elephants in the shaker front and then the 6th is on the front. He also wears blue glasses, so I made sure to include those on each elephant. What I didn't realize was, with the the glossy accents on the glasses, they were 'thicker' and kinda stuck together, didn't shake as much as I would have hoped.😐

It's okay; he loved it and that's all that matters! The full front shaker pockets are from Tonic Studios; they are super easy to use; I'm anxious to try them again!

Thanks for stopping by; hope you are doing well!

Sparkly Shaker Thanks

Hi friends - hope you are enjoying a great summer; ours has been very up and down, this past weekend was ALL DOWN. Here's a picture with a clear description of why it was such a difficult weekend; BUT I saw SSS is carrying a new stamp line: Colorado Craft Company, have you heard of them? I had not, but one set has this quote that was so touching to me today: "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. LOVE leaves a MEMORY no one can steal." - how awesome is THAT, gosh, I just love it!
Left home with a 35 lb. spitfire little girl knowing the outcome may not be what we hoped.
Returned with an empty collar and leash. #hearbroken

Anyway, let's move on to happier topics. :D Our youngest daughter recently had the opportunity to participate in a medical shadowing program in St. Cloud, MN - you shadow a different doctor every day; such a great experience. We know the doctor that leads the program, he helps students prepare as they are ready to start applying to medical school; she's not there yet, but never too soon to shadow doctors. She had a BLAST! She stayed with the head doc and his wife; they had talked on the phone a few times before she arrived telling her there were weekends they would be traveling so she would be home alone, well...that lasted - NEVER! She was quickly adopted into their family traveling every single weekend with them; even participating in their grandson's first birthday. LOL Needless to say, what an experience.

I wanted to be sure we sent them a special card. I also ordered cookies from: Heidi's Heavenly Cookies; our daughter had told me they really like sweets, having dessert with almost every meal; so the cookies were a huge hit!

The card uses Reverse Confetti THANKS cut combined with SSS Even More Spring Flowers. I watered colored the flowers then finished them off with Zig Clean Clear Brushes for more vibrant colors. I added Nuvo shimmer to all the flowers and the word THANKS after coloring ombre with Zigs.

The background uses the smooshing technique - THAT'S all kinds of official - of a few distress colors. Once dry, I stamped the IndigobBlu Honeycomb background with Versamark and dusted with Perfect Pearls. I flicked on some white paint then assembled the shaker card with some beautiful sequins - also adding a few to the outside and adding a dot of Nuvo crystals drops to each.

Thanks for stopping by; hope you have a great week!

Hugs,
