Been busy....

Sorry for my lack of posting but I have been a little busy with a little something called Crop for the Cure!!!  Saturday was the day though and it went wonderfully!!  The weather was a little miserable but otherwise it was a fabulous day!!  And, we were able to raise about $1400 for the cause!!

Here is a picture of my sister, myself and our Momma taken at CFTC.....

And just because I have lots of scrappyness that I haven't shared yet, I will pop a layout on here too.....

Created with the Picket Fence collection from Lily Bee Design

Sweet Girls & Fight Like a Girl!

Hey all....just wanted to pop in and share a layout I created on the weekend.  I used a sketch from My Sketch World.

And here is my layout using an older Bo Bunny collection (Peacock Lane).

CFTC THANK YOU!!!!

WOW!!  Seriously, I am not sure what else to say except - WOW!!!  That is how I feel, today the morning after Crop for the Cure.  I want to say THANK YOU but those words just seem to be so small in relation to how overwhelmed I am feeling!!  What an amazing day filled with SO much incredible support from many many amazing people!!!  Each and every one of you who support our day deserve credit, appreciation and so many thanks for helping us make our day the crazy success it has become.  A million times I say thank you and that will still not be enough!!!

Our day was amazing again!!  Not without it's glitches but still amazing!!  I have to admit I panicked just a wee bit when the power went out very early into our day but thankfully it was just a flicker and then the crazy weather cleared up and we were okay after that.  That unfortunately was not the last glitch of the day.  Dinner was running a little late due to a crazy issue with outlets where our roasters kept blowing breakers.  Man, that was frustrating!!  Thankfully, we have so many amazing, incredible and patient ladies who attend our day and we made it through and did finally serve up a yummy late dinner!!  Thank you to everyone there for being patient with us while we worked out the issues!!  You guys are all the best!!

I have to say a gigantic THANK YOU to our vendors this year.  Scrapping Turtle - what can I say about this amazing store?!?!  Well, I love the store!  It is truly my happy place.  Such an awesome store but more than that, I love the ladies there!  Hannah - you rock, my friend!!  I was so glad to have you there with us for just about the entire day!  I ask for help and you step up and support our day in major ways!!  THANK YOU for that!!  You are amazing and I love ya!!  And of course, I cannot forget Lori.  I bring you some goodies and you create and teach the most amazing class!!!  Sure, it ran over time but isn't that what I love about your classes?!?!  You pack so much goodness into it that it is impossible to complete it all in time!!  Truly awesome!!  Thank you so much for being a fabulous friend and a truly amazing support to our day!!  You too rock and I love ya!!

Our other fantabulous vendor was the super sweet and amazing Denise Donald - Stampin Up Extraordinaire!  Thank you so much for supporting our day and helping to make it awesome!!  And your class was incredible!!  Again, I am so very appreciative that you share your time and talent with us.  You are fantastic and I am blessed to call you friend!!!  I have to do another shout out too since Denise was so sweet to make Crop for the Cure the hostess for the day so we were so incredibly blessed to receive an extra $140 donated to the cause!!  Thanks lady!  I love ya!!

I also need to send out many thanks to our incredible sponsors!  We couldn't do it without you all!!  Seriously, I cannot say enough how much your generosity is appreciated!  Thank you just doesn't seem enough!  I contact you and you all step up in a major way!!  You are amazing and I am awed by each of you!!  I know one of the things that makes our day fabulous is that each of our participants get to go home with some of your fantastic goodies!!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!!  I hope to be able to count on your support for years to come!!!  (Please, if you are reading this, go check out the list and give some love to all of the fantastic companies and people who support our day.)

We have so many businesses that support our day but we also have many generous individuals who do as well.  I love that there are so many people out there who have embraced our day and just show up with goodies to give away.  That is amazing to me!  Many of our participants have been with us each of the five years and have become part of our big CFTC family!!  Thank you so much to each of  you for your support!!

One of the very amazing things about CFTC is that we get a lot of the same people back year after year!  While I always feel bad when people miss out on getting a ticket and I have to turn them away, I am so thrilled that this has become just like a big family!  I love seeing the familiar faces walk through the door each year!!  Thank you to all of you who keep coming back!  I guess we must be doing something right!!  ;)

This year it was my pleasure to give away a couple of very special prizes.  These are really tough ones to give away but also amazing ones to give away.  I think they help remind us what we are doing at CFTC every year.  Sure, it is a day of fun and friends but it is also a day to fight toward a future without breast cancer.  At the heart of it, that is what we are all doing!

Kathy Quinn was a lady that I did not have the pleasure of getting to know very well but was thrilled to have with us our very first year doing CFTC.  Sadly, she lost her battle to breast cancer a few years back.  I know she is missed by all those who loved her.  Each year, her family, with the help of Keri Postma, put together something to give away in her honour.  This year we had a special prize of a $48 gift certificate in honour of her 48th birthday that she should have been here to celebrate last weekend.

Laurie Cheney, or Elmo as we lovingly call her, was a fantastic friend who lost her battle with cancer this past year.  It was very strange not to see her smiling face and her bouncing Elmo backpack there yesterday.  I was thrilled when Grace Stone contacted me and wanted to organzie a gift to be given away in her honour.  I hope in some small this helped keep Elmo a part of our day.

I also need to thank my friend Kristy for helping me out behind the scenes as I prepped for the day.  And of course for making the very yummy Girardelli brownies!!  I don't think there was a crumb left.  And many thanks as well to Lynne for bringing some sweet treats for everyone to enjoy!  I heard many full mouths commenting on their tastiness!!  Also, many thanks to the ladies who helped us tidy up last night (Marissa, Ria, Shelley, Denise, Heather).  You ladies were a big help - both with cleaning up and with commiserating with me over my injury!!

Oh, and how can I not shout out my amazing Momma & sisters (Tami & Manda)!!  Not only are they the most fabulous ladies ever but they allow me to be bossy and run the CFTC show.  You guys rock!!  The food prep is done completely by these ladies.  I am seriously no help at all in this department.  I really could not do this without them.  Not just because they make sure everyone is fed but because they are the most amazing support a girl could have.  Not just when it comes to CFTC but every day.  I am truly blessed to have the most incredible family ever!!!  Oh, and I can't forget my Daddy who helps us with the heavy lifting and hauls the tables back and forth for us!  Thankfully, he will work for chocolate!! ;)

Oh, and a major shout out to my sweet, funny and adorable niece Marissa!  Rissa Roo was the princess of the day!!  Not only was she super good and well behaved (which really is not a surprise at all) but she was the most awesome help!!  She drew each and every one of those draw tickets and hand-picked the prize each person won!  And many times, this required a lot of deep thought and consideration on her part!!  You are truly amazing Ruby Roo and we all love you too much!!!

Who else can I thank?!?!  I don't know.  I truly hope I got everyone.  I am still feeling so overwhelmed by it all!  So, please if I did not thank you just know that I am SO appreciative of everything everyone does to help and support our day!  I wish I could go through the list and thank each of our sponsors individually but frankly, none of us have that kind of time!  Just know that you are all amzing to me!!
THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!

Hey, who's ready for June 2nd, 2012?!?!?

Before I sign off, please let me remind everyone how this day got started.  For my family - it is about our Nanny!!  She was the most amazing and incredible woman ever and we all miss her so much!  For us, she is at the heart of this day!  I know that she was smiling down at us!  I love you Nanny and I will until the end of time!!!

Some reflections.....

It is Friday evening and I have not been home long from setting up for Crop for the Cure.  Tomorrow is the day and I think it will be great.

I can't believe it!  Five years we have been doing this and that is still amazing to me!  Especially because we did not have a clue what we were doing when we started.  But, here we are on the eve of another event and I think it is just getting better and better.

One of the very best things about hosting this day is doing it with my Momma & sisters.  These ladies are incredible!!  I am so lucky to have them!!

One of the other amazing things is the amount of support we receive.  So many incredibly generous people and businesses step up to help us year after year and I cannot say thank you enough.  It is awe-inspiring to me to see so much generosity!!!

So, as I wind down my evening here, I look forward to the day tomorrow.  It is sure to be a day of fun and friends and laughter.  But, at the heart of it all is the amazing cause we are supporting.  Breast Cancer awareness is so very important and I just hope that one day there will be a cure.  Until that time we will keep doing our part in the journey there.

Before I go, I have to be sure to talk about the reason all of this happened.  My Nan.  Crop for the Cure is a bittersweet day when it comes to remembering my Nanny.  This all came about in her honour but of course that meant we had lost her.  I cannot believe how long she has been gone.  CFTC is a day of happiness and fun but in my heart there is some sadness too as I miss one of the most incredible women I have ever known.  I miss her so much but I know she is smiling down at us!

I am overwhelmed!!

Yesterday was Crop for the Cure! Today it is done. It is strange. The 6 months or so leading up to the day, I have CFTC constantly on the mind and now I am just exhausted. And happy. Very very happy. I cannot put into words really how I feel today but I will try.
Four years now we have been doing this event and by we I mean myself, my Mom and my sisters. Some of my very favourite people in the world so that right there is a big plus! When we started we just thought it would be a quick way to raise our donations for Run for the Cure. Sure, we knew it would be fun but really we were looking to get our donations since none of us like to ask people for money (even though the cause is an incredible one).

From then until now, I cannot believe!! Our first couple of years we had a good response and had several people come out and support us. We cropped, we laughed, we ate, we felt good about supporting a good thing. It was fantastic! Now though, I am truly in awe of the life of its own this event has taken on. People actually want to come and look forward to this. It is weird for me. I plan it and do my best to make it a good day but always stress that it won't be good enough. So, the fact that people truly love it and embrace the day as their own is awe-inspiring to me. I have made some incredible friends through this hobby and this day and I feel truly blessed by that. We have many people who have been with us from the beginning and I can't thank them enough. We have people who came out for the first time this year and I can't thank them enough. But most of all, we have people who had such a fabulous time that they are already signed up for next year. That astounds me! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Without all of you this day would just be myself and my family sitting in an empty room so the credit goes to each and every one of you! Your support of this cause amazes me!!

And I truly cannot forget the many many people who step up and support our cause. Seriously, when the boxes start rolling into my house I am amazed and awed by the generousity of so many people. I ask for some help and it just comes in in spades. This is truly a wonderful community we are part of filled with some of the sweetes, most generous and fabulous people I have ever met!! I thank each of you not only for providing the goodies that I know helps keep our participants coming back each year but also for helping raise awareness for this cause. Together we all will make a difference and hopefully prevent people from being devestated by this. I feel as though my words here have not adequately expressed how much I appreciate you all so just now that it truly means more than I can say!! You are all amazing and I never miss an opportunity to share that with others! THANK YOU!!!! (Please check out this post to get a look at all of the incredible people and businesses that stepped up to help out. Return the favour by bringing some of their awesome goodies into your crafty rooms.)

And at the heart of all of this is my Nan!! She is the reason we do Run for the Cure and she is the reason we do this day!! This terrible disease took her away from us and I miss her always!! She can never be forgotten. In all of the fun this day brings to us, she is the reason we do it and that must always be remembered!! It is important to me and I know the rest of the team to have that out there. Our Nan was an incredible woman whom I truly believe everyone should have had the pleasure of knowing. It was her love and her spirit that made us into the people we are today. Without her many many years of leading by example in helping others we would not be the people we are doing the things we do. If we can follow in her footsteps even a little I am honoured. I know that she would be proud of each and every person involved in this day. And I know that those of you who never met her may not know what high praise that is but believe me when I tell you it is!!

So please just know how much each and every member of the CFTC team thanks you!! You are all amazing and I look forward to working with you next year!!

Saturday June 4th, 2011 - mark your calendars folks!!

If you would like to support our team in Run for the Cure, please visit our team page.
(It is still a work in progress)

I thought I would add a bit of scrappiness to this post by sharing the favours I made for each of our 50 participants. Can't crop all day without some chocolate!! I used the gorgeous Hope the Awareness Fairy from Paper Makeup Stamps.

On behalf of the entire Crop team, I have to say how blessed we feel to have so much support for this event of ours that we weren't sure would make it through its' first year. And now, here we are in our fourth!! That is because of each of you so from the bottom of my heart -

I *heart* Cosmo Cricket!!

I love Cosmo Cricket!! For so many reasons do I love them!! I love their product.....I mean, seriously, they have some of the most awesome patterned paper ever! I love that they are a small family company. I love that their blog never fails to make me smile!

And, I love that when I sent an email with a request for Crop for the Cure that they stepped up and offered to help me out! How awesome is that?!?!

You see, CFTC is something I love! It is an awesome day with so many fabulous people all coming together to raise money for a very worthy cause!! (Just as a reminder, CFTC money raised goes toward our Run for the Cure team and ultimately Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation). Why is this cause so near and dear to me?? Read this post for the answer to that. Our Crop is a family affair. My Mom and my sisters and I organize it but I think any one of them would agree when I say it is my baby. I love it and am constantly thinking of ways to make it better for our participants. It's never too far from my brain.

We may be into the planning for our fourth year but it is still a big deal to me when companies/businesses/people step up and offer to support us. I think I expect to hear 'no' more often especially in light of the current economy. This is an incredibly generous and supportive community we are a part of and for that I am thankful!!

A great big THANK YOU to Cosmo Cricket and all the other fabulous people who stand behind us in our effort to raise funds and awareness for this cause.

Keep an eye on my blog for further news about this event. It's not until June 2010 so the real planning doesn't start until next year. That being said, I am open to accepting donations at any time. Email me if you are interested.

Think Pink - Fight Like A Girl

You have to check this new set out by Flourishes. It is fabulous! The moment I saw it I knew I had to have it for my Crop for the Cure event. I fired an email off to Sharon and she very quickly agreed to send me a couple to giveaway at our 2010 event. Seriously, how awesome is that!!!

I am overwhelmed by the support we receive for our event. Without our supporters we are nothing so I can never miss a chance to say how incredible I think you all are!! Just check out the list of sponsors we had for 2009's event. I hope to surpass that in 2010. Our event is scheduled for June 5th, 2010. It is a fabulous day of friends, fun & scrapping all in the name of breast cancer awareness. The proceeds go toward our CIBC Run for the Cure team and ultimately benefits Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Our team, Nan's Boobsters, participates in honour of our Nan who I am stunned to say we lost 5 years ago this past July. This year's walk is coming up on October 4th and I am very much looking forward to it!

Anyway, back to the stamp set and Flourishes' awesome support. I wanted to give a shout out to Sharon and say thank you for jumping in without hesitation. You are FABULOUS and I so appreciate it!! Hop on over to the Flourishes site to purchase this set as well as the other gorgeous ones they released.

**If you would like to sponsor Crop for the Cure 2010, I am more than happy to accept it. Please email me and let me know. Thanks!**

We're in this together...

When I saw this set (Think Pink by My Favorite Things) I knew it would be perfect for thank you cards for Crop for the Cure. I love this set!! So, I set out to make 50 cards just like this. One for each participant in their goodie bag. When did I finish them, you ask?!?! Well, the Thursday before the event of course! Man, I am such a procrastinator!!

I actually had my first experience at needing to fill a Copic as a result of these babies. Who know that was actually so easy?!?!

Cutie

This week's challenge on Turtle Soup comes from Dee. She asked us to use at least 10 things on a layout (not counting pictures or paper). This one was tough for me. I am actually a very minimalist scrapper. I just can't bring myself to put lots of stuff on my pages. I like to keep it all about the pictures!

Here's my take though. I got all 10 things on there and still managed to keep it clean & simple. :)

And here's my list of stuff....QuicKutz (the large bracket - cut down though), Thickers, dew drops, bling, stamping, liquid pearls, flowers, brad, ribbon, handwritten journaling

Photos by Amanda of Living Proof Photography.
Speaking of Living Proof, Amanda has a fantastic contest on right now for the Dads. You wanna show a Dad you know some love, check out the details here.

Crop for the Cure

**See post below for winners of the Blog Hop for the Cure**

Well, I am a little sad this morning that Crop for the Cure is over for another year!! What a fantastic day we had!!

I seriously cannot say thank you enough to each and every person who helped us out!

To every single one of the fabulous ladies who came out and spent the day with us - so many thanks goes out to you! We most definitely could not do this without your support! I hope each of you knows how much it means to me that you choose to spend the day with us!!

To all of the businesses/people, both near and far, who donated goods to our day - THANK YOU!!! I feel so incredibly blessed at all of the support we received! I think our participants thank you as well since every person went home with some fun stuff!! Our day would be nothing without your support so from the bottom of my heart - thank you!! (Please go here and see a list of our sponsors and show them some love)

To our fabulous on-site vendors, Scrapping Turtle and In A Pinch Designs - thank you so much for coming and spending the day with us!! I know I sound like a bit of a broken record here but I really mean it when I say your support means so much to me! You help make our day fabulous and I love you for it!! THANK YOU!!!

And to the lovely Lesley Langdon, who donated both her time, talent and scrappy goodies to come and teach a card class. Thank you so very much!! You are an awesome lady and I have to tell you that I have heard nothing but fabulous things about your class. So sweet and generous she is. She donated all proceeds from her class to the cause - she truly has a wonderful heart!

A shout out to my diva friends who came out on Friday and stayed late yesterday to help with preparations and clean-up! You ladies are awesome and I love you! Thank you so much for your help! You saved my sanity a lot this weekend and it means so much to me!!

I really really hope, I am not forgetting to thank anyone here. Please know that I am so incredibly grateful for all of the support we receive. To have so many people who want to share this day with us is an incredible feeling. I feel both overwhelmed and trememdously blessed!!

Oh, I have to do another shout out to Noelle! This is my girl Lisa's daughter. She spent a day selling water bottles at the end of the driveway and had her Mom show up with a $20 bill to donate to the cause. Nine years old and already fabulous! Thank you so much Noelle!

As well, I have to mention the Quinn family, who through their time of loss were able to think of us. I was so very proud to be able to give away such a fabulous prize in Kathy's honour. She was a lovely lady and is most definitely missed.

A thank you as well to the fabulous Ms. Go Scrapping herself (Karen Ellis) who popped by for a visit and to give a few things away! Such a fantastic support of our cause. Thanks darlin!!

This post might just be long enough now I think. Sorry for the wordiness but I had to show the love to all of the people who make this day happen. And last but most certainly not least, I most definitely need to shout out the rest of the Crop team. My Momma who slaved over the food all weekend long. Seriously, because for all my planning I did not do much at all to help with this aspect of things! My 3 fabulous sisters who helped out as well. Ang, Tami & Amanda - thanks sistafriends! This truly is a family event and I am so happy & proud to do such a great thing with my mom & sisters!!

And lastly, I will leave you with the final results because really don't we all want to know what's going toward the cause. I have done a rough figuring of things and barring anything being missed on account of sheer exhaustion on my part, I am incredibly please to report that we raised a fantastic $2200 for the cause!!

Together we can make a difference and each and every person involved in this event should be proud at what we accomplished by coming together!!

THANK YOU!!!

We look forward to everyone's support for next year's event (tentatively set for June 5, 2010)

Crop for the Cure 2009

I am so happy (& maybe a little panicked) to say that this year's Crop is only one week away!! I can't wait but at the same time have so much to do still.

I just wanted to take a minute to say a great big THANK YOU to all of our super fabulous sponsors. We are blown away by the support we have received this year and I extend a heartfelt thanks to each of you. This day most definitely would not be what it is without all of you!!

And to our participants, another big THANK YOU!!! We would be nothing and get nowhere without all of you coming out to share the day with us! Many of you have been with us the past 2 years and it means so much to know that the day was such that you want to come back! I can't tell you how much it means to us! We are thrilled that we have SOLD OUT this year!!

This day is important not only because it is one filled with fun & scrapping but also because it helps us raise awareness and money for this very important cause! Breast Cancer is a terrible disease that affects far too many of us. I would love to see a cure found during my lifetime and I am proud of us for doing our part toward that goal. As a reminder all money raised is done so in sponsorship of our CIBC Run for the Cure team (Nan's Boobsters) and ultimately benefits Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation!

Now, let me again give a shout out to everyone who has helped make this day possible!!

Thank You!!

Just a note to say a great big THANK YOU to everyone who has so generously agreed to support us. I know I speak for the entire Crop for the Cure team when I say it means a lot to us.

When we decided to put this event together in 2007 we didn't really know what we were doing. Who would have thought that it would grow to this? I wasn't sure we would get anyone to come out that first year, let alone have enough interest to continue to be doing it 2 years later.

We work hard to bring the best event possible to our participants so that they will join us year after year and we could not do that without our sponsors' generosity. I am overwhelmed by it all!! And in our current economy when everyone seems to be struggling, the generosity is amazing!!

And definitely not to be lost in all of this is the reason we all come together. Raising money & awareness for breast cancer research is incredibly important and we are very happy to do our part. And I commend each and every one of you (sponsors & participants alike) for stepping up and helping out.

THANK YOU!!

Crop for the Cure - a success!!!

Yesterday was the second annual Crop for the Cure and let me just say how proud I am of the day!!! We work hard to make this a day that is fun for all of our participants but we can't do it alone. We have to thank all of the businesses who offered generous support!! The door prizes and goodie bags were a hit!! We also can't forget the vendors that come out and spend the day with us! I know it isn't easy to come and be on-site - so much pressure in choosing the right things to bring and then of course you have to get it all there. I just want to say that we really appreciate it! And of course, who can forget all of our happy croppers! Without you our day would be nothing!! A very big thank you to all of you!!!

The day was a success - our tentative total is $902 to be donated to Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation! You should all be so proud for the part you played in helping to find a cure for this horrendous disease!! Thank you!!!

We are already talking and brainstorming ideas for making next year's event another fun-filled successful day!! Hope to see you there!!
