House of Cards May Challenge: Clear Papers

Hi everyone! Happy May Day!! Where is the sun, where is the warm springy weather, and where are my spring flowers! Instead we still have April showers.

The challenge this month at House of Cards is using clear papers such as vellum or acetate.

This is a very timely challenge because the Online Card Classes are featuring a class just on these papers called "Clear and Sheer". If you are having any trouble with this challenge be sure to check out this  awesome class.

My card is made to inspire to chase away the clouds and encourage the sun to return.

I embossed my acetate with a cloud embossing folder and added the strip of die cut flowers. The clouds match up to the cloud embossed base card also.

I did not put a sentiment on it yet, cos' I am not sure how I will use this card. I am thinking t might make a nice sympathy card.

This card looks really cool with some lamp light. You get these really cool shadows.

How fun huh. For another inspiration card, check this blog posting, where I practiced what I learned in the Clear and Sheer class.

Let's see what you can show us! Come and join in the fun this month at The House of Cards!

Challenge Sunday

Its Sunday and its challenge day. I was glad to see there are still some challenges that want Thanksgiving cards. I have a few left to make.

This card began with the idea of texture, which is what they want over at Just Add Ink. I got out some acetate which I haven't used for awhile. I stamped the leaves with StazOn ink and colored the opposite side with copics. I love the way they blended in a puddle fashion. Kinda like alcohol inks which makes sense since thats what copics are. I stamped and fussy cut the leaves to embellish the front of the card. I added the twine for extra texture and a few gems and there  ya have it!

Here is a view that allows you to peek inside the card.

Look how cool those copics blended together!

I am entering this into Pals Paper Arts color challenge- OK once again maybe I am fudging it a bit.

AAA cards has this awesome photo inspiration- can ya see where I was going with the card and the photo?

The Paper Players has another Thanksgiving inspiration

Lastly CAS on Sunday wants you to use twine. I was trying to think of something really creative, but nothing would work but something traditional. But what the heck it is Thanksgiving- the penultimate traditional holiday!

So one card, five challenges! WOOO HOOO!!

Off to finish my paper on self-care- now that I have just practiced my own self-care!

A very graphic birthday

I just love it when something just comes together effortlessly and I sure wasn't planning for that to happen when I sawVicki's photo inspiration for Just Us Girls this week. It seemed somehow daunting. I think all photo inspirations are daunting though!  Anyway, all that black and white! Yikes! I like lots of color!

I examined the image and an idea took place! I love acetate so the glass coffee table was my starting point. the rest just fell together. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the results! (not to toot my own horn but yeah!!) The card has that clean and graphic feel the Arydeth inspires.

 Here is another view.

This view was by accident. I had the card sitting up on a pile of other cards. It was evening and the light was on in my studio. I saw this oh so cool shadow effect on the card. I just love it!!

Please join us this week at Just Us Girls for this very graphic and cool photo challenge!

Summer Card Camp Week 1, Day 5 Inspiration

I got up early and caught up on day 5 at Summer Card Camp 2.  While Jennifer's card technique was cool (I will try it soon) it was Kristina's card with the embossed acetate window that caught my eye. i used one of the new color combos suggested, not ones I usually work with.

You know me, I just love acetate and I have embossed it before, but never as a window. The card was a bit time consuming but so worth it. A CAS card that takes time. I used an old spellbinder's fish die and die cut them using polka dot paper. I just love polka dots and over at CAS-ual Fridays they are featuring polka dots for this week's challenge.

Don't you love how the acetate is embossed with swirls just like ocean waves? The fish are swing around in the ocean with a backdrop of aqua polka dot paper. The base card is embossed to represent the bubbles fish blow in the water.

Other challenges that I am entering this in are: Just Add Ink- featuring cards using water literally or as an inspiration, Addicted to CAS, featuring water as the inspiration, and Crazy 4 Challenges, featuring marine life.

I wished I had one of those cute little fish sayings like Happy Birthday Fishes so I had to be content with "don't forget to have some fun today".

I apologize for the not so perfect photos- just one of those crazy lighting days.

Have a great weekend!
