Maserati unveiled GranTurismo S MC Sport Line Limited Edition

The limited-edition Maserati GranTurismo S MC Sport Line

The limited-edition Maserati GranTurismo S MC Sport Line with Matt White “ICE” finishing was unveiled last week in the futuristic surroundings of the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, in a dedicated event for a selected number of Maserati customers of the Middle East.

20-inch gloss black Neptune design alloy wheels

Only twelve of these limited-edition GranTurismos will be produced in Modena, all for Middle Eastern markets. The same number – twelve - are the world titles which make up the prestigious palmares of the MC12 in the FIA GT International Championship since 2005: two Constructors’ Cups (2005 and 2007), four Drivers’ Titles (Michael Bartels - Andrea Bertolini in 2006, Thomas Biagi in 2007, Michael Bartels - Andrea Bertolini in 2008 and 2009); five Teams’ Titles (from 2005 onwards uninterruptedly with the Vitaphone Racing Team); one Citation Cup in 2007 with gentleman driver Ben Aucott.

Twelve are also the Middle Eastern cities where Maserati is present with a dedicated showroom: each car will feature a plaque with the name of the city to which it is committed.

A limited and numbered edition of the GranTurismo S MC Sport Line, finished in “Matt Bianco Fuji” with eye-catching pearlescent nuances, will be dedicated to the Italian market. Only eleven customers in Italy will be able to sit behind the wheel of this exclusive car.

Designed to enhance the sporty DNA of the Trident, the “MC Sport Line” options, available to Maserati clients worldwide, sum up the experience acquired on the track by the Maserati Corse racing department, whose contribution to the design of the functional components has been invaluable. The world of motor racing also inspired Maserati’s designers when it came to styling, hence the extensive use of carbon fibre.

Rear lip spoiler in carbon fibre

An Aerodynamic Package is available within the “MC Sport Line” for the GranTurismo range and it includes double front winglets, rear lip spoiler, door sill inserts, black window surrounds, black exhaust pipes and body coloured door handles. Carbon fibre door mirrors and carbon finish door handles are also available as part of the Aerodynamic Package. These modifications, developed in the wind tunnel and tested at various circuits with the Maserati GranTurismo MC race car concept, increase the vertical load (Cz is reduced by 30%), allowing faster cornering and further improved traction coming out of the corner.

Several aesthetic features are available from the MC Sport Line option list, some of which can also be ordered for Quattroporte S and Sport GTS, including gloss black alloy wheels, interior carbon finishing and MC design aluminium racing pedals.

A single rate sports suspension system is available on the Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic, whilst for the GranTurismo S, the highest performing model in the Maserati range, the MC suspension set up can be ordered. This includes lower ride height (by 10mm), stiffer dampers, larger-diameter anti-roll bars which minimise lateral load shifts (roll angle is reduced by 20%). Overall the car’s rigidity is increased by 16% at the front and 32% at the rear.

Interior carbon package from the MC Sport Line

The “MC Sport Line” suspension is combined with drilled, slotted front and rear disc brakes providing a more predictable and a more immediate braking action, meeting all the expectations of those in search of peak handling. Compared to the standard units, the Sport Line discs are drilled with 4 slots and 16 blind holes around their perimeter: the slots keep the brake pad clean, preventing loss of performance due to material detached by friction, while in case of rain their mechanical action helps to break up the film of water. Blind holes have been added on the inside and outside of the braking surface for more uniform wear of the brake pad and disc surfaces, keeping braking efficiency constant over time.

The Maserati Stability Programme (MSP) has also been re-calibrated for the MC suspension, allowing the driver greater freedom of action.

The New Maserati GranCabrio to premiere in Frankfurt

The New Maserati GranCabrio

MODENA : August 24, 2009 - The Maserati GranCabrio, the first four-seater convertible in the Trident carmaker's history, will make its world wide debut on September 15 at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The introduction of the GranCabrio – the Trident's third prong – completes Maserati's product line-up that now consists of three different families of models: Quattroporte, GranTurismo, GranCabrio.

The GranCabrio represents the very essence of Maserati in terms of open-top cars. It's a Maserati in the purest sense of the word: from the unmistakable style by Pininfarina to the spacious interior, from the craftsmanship of each detail to the driving pleasure and performance. The Maserati GranCabrio enriches all five senses in a shared open-air experience, without sacrificing comfort and performance. A dream car designed and built for men and women who love to live life in an understated though sophisticated manner. Like all the made in Maserati open-top convertibles: special cars aimed at refined connoisseurs.

In fact the GranCabrio is continuing the Maserati tradition in open-top cars, joining models that have played such an important part in the Modena carmaker's history such as the 1950 A6G Frua Spyder, 1960 3500GT Vignale Spyder, 1964 Mistral Spyder, 1968 Ghibli Spyder and 2001 Spyder designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the car that marked Maserati's return to the United States. In the footsteps of tradition, the GranCabrio opens a new chapter, because never before have four-seater top-down models ever been produced at the Viale Ciro Menotti Maserati factory. Four proper seats, so that the rear passengers are not merely supporting actors, but co-stars of the journey.

The GranCabrio is powered by a 4.7 litre V8, 323 kW engine and is the convertible with the longest wheelbase on the market. The GranCabrio's roof is strictly canvas-made, emphasizing the link with the Maserati tradition.

The Maserati GranCabrio will be marketed starting next winter, and experienced by customers the world over from the following spring.

The new Maserati GranTurismo MC debuts at the Track

Maserati Gran Turismo MC GT4 @ Spa Francorchamps Circuit

The new GranTurismo MC debuts at Spa, during the GT4 European Cup. This is the car the Trident has developed to continue its international sports tradition.

The new model is an offshoot of the Maserati GranTurismo MC Concept introduced last September in Monza and based on the Maserati GranTurismo S road version, with electro-actuated gearbox system.

A limited series of the Maserati GranTurismo MC produced for gentlemen drivers who wish to race in the 2010 GT4 European Cup and the national series, will be on sale as of November 2009. The indicative price is 135,000 Euro + VAT. The cars will be sold directly through Maserati Corse.

After excellent results during development tests carried out by Andrea Bertolini, the car will hit the track backed by the private team AF Corse, which entered two Maserati MC12 in the FIA GT Championship in 2004.

At Spa the Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4 will be driven by the gentlemen drivers - as per regulations - Lorenzo Casè and Cédric Sbirrazzuoli.

For Casè, winner of the GT 2007 Italian Championship, it is a return to being at the wheel of a Maserati.

On the other hand, it will be the first time 21-year-old Monte Carlo-born Cédric Sbirrazzuoli races with the Trident. After getting podium results in karting and in single seater formulas (F. Gloria, F. Azzurra and F. Renault), he decided to try his hand at racing GT and he obtained third place in the 2008 GT3 Italian Championship. MC are the letters that represent the Principality of Monaco, so racing a GranTurismo MC also means he is taking the National symbol to the race...

With the creation of the Maserati GranTurismo MC, the tradition of the Trident logo car manufacturer who remains loyal to its origins - those of a company founded in 1914 to tune and subsequently build racecars - lives on.

The Maserati list of victories is abundant and it includes a two consecutive wins at the famous Indianapolis 500 in 1939 and in 1940, with Wilbur Shaw at the wheel of the 8CTF "Boyle Special". This year is the 70th anniversary of that first success.

Juan Manuel Fangio won two F1 world titles in 1954 and in 1957 at the wheel of a Maserati 250F. In the 1950s and 1960s cars with the Trident logo won a good many Endurance races, while the last victory in a Formula 1 GP was clinched by Pedro Rodriguez on a Cooper-Maserati in 1967.

In 2004 Maserati Corse started racing again internationally in the FIA GT Championship featuring the MC12; it achieved three victories at the prestigious Spa 24 Hours (2005, 2006, and 2008 with Vitaphone Racing Team) and no less than ten absolute titles.

Race have always been the most demanding test-bench for all cars. Traditionally, reliability and performance are checked on track. It is in races that new technologies and materials are tested. And it is on the circuit that Maserati has decided to raise the much praised-sporty verve of its Maserati GranTurismo S to even higher levels to create the Maserati GranTurismo MC.

The GT4 European Cup free practices will be held on Thursday. Friday there will be the qualifying practices and race 1, which will last 40'. Race 2 will be held on Saturday and will also last 40'.

Italian Excellence Federica Pellegrini and the new GranTurismo S Automatic - New Images updated!

Federica Pellegrini and the new Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic

MODENA : June 12, 2009 - They sought each other until they finally met: the fastest female swimmer in the world, Federica Pellegrini, and the new Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic.

The meeting between these two “superb examples of Italian excellence” took place in Verona, where the champion trains by swimming daily in the pool at least 20 kilometers.

To celebrate in the best way possible, the record-breaking woman of international swimming appeared with a beautiful scarf in the colors of the Italian flag which blends well with the elegant white of the GranTurismo S Automatic delivered to her, the latest new model from Maserati powered by a 4,700 cc V8 engine with 440 HP and a maximum speed of 295 km/h, presented to the international press in Modena last May.
The model completes Maserati’s coupé range, which also includes the GranTurismo 4.2 with automatic gearbox and the GranTurismo S 4.7 with electro-actuated gearbox.

“I’ve always liked sports cars: They’ve always fascinated me even when I was a child” - Federica says. “It’s a passion that I haven’t inherited from anyone in my family. Probably the truth is that I’m particularly attracted by anything that has to do with speed.” Federica got to grips with the GranTurismo straightway.
