revisiting bees and trees

Here's another 'better late than never post'. You may remember that waaaaay back in July I mentioned that Addie and I were working on the design of a nature-inspired wedding reception. Well the party has come and gone, but thankfully, with the wonderfulness of Sara Harper's lovely photos, the memories are preserved, and can be shared here. Have a look!

Congratulations to Claire and Patrick - the beautiful couple whose love was honored this day! I'd like to also mention that if awards were given to clients [perhaps Addie and I can start a movement] these two would receive one in each of the following categories 'Most Helpful', 'Most Thoughtful' and 'Most Organized'! Cheers Claire and Patrick!

See more of Sara's fantastic photos here.

a break from regularly scheduled programming

Do you ever have those days where your heart is busting at the seams? This is one of those days for me.

tulips : take one

Hope your day has gotten off to a sunny start!

I'm on spring break this week, which means I'm getting to spend some quality time at home in my studio. This morning I'm having fun listening to NPR and working on a special project for some special friends. I'll be sure to share more details as they....grow.

six months* and a pony

Edgar and I were married six months ago today. Perhaps, in the grand scheme of things, it is silly to celebrate at six months. But, well frankly, I am silly and like to celebrate. Besides we are never promised tomorrow...These horseshoes hang over the front door of our house as a reminder of the fun time we enjoyed that day riding horses with our friends. Or in Edgar's case, riding a pony :)

Our day was photographed by the super talented (can't say it enough) Jen Yuson. I just took a look at Jen's website and she's posted some other photos from our wedding if you'd like to take a look! Its interesting to see the ones she chose, including my very favorite. I wonder if you can guess which one...

*Update (5 minutes later) : Haha...I'm such a dork.  I just counted the months since our wedding (using my hands, nonetheless) and realized its been five, not six months!  Ah hell, another reason to celebrate! Stay tuned next month :)

marking our place on the map

Wowee...Edgar and I are both so incredibly honored by your gracious responses to our happy news.  Thank you!  It feels wonderful to have so many supportive friends all over the world to share this with.  As for more photos...believe me, I'll be happy to oblige once I receive them from our amazing photographer.  Right now we only have snapshots. Again, thank you so much.  I look forward to sharing more from the nuptials (and my sketchbook!) soon!

manuel + lisa

Last night Edgar and I had the pleasure of attending the wedding of his friend and coworker, Manuel, to his beautiful fiance Lisa. The event was gorgeous and fun. There was even a Mariachi Band, reflecting Manuel's Mexican heritage.

Below are a few sketches I made throughout the night in an attempt to capture pieces of the special time for the lovely couple. I hope these help them remember the beauty of the night for many years to come.

a beautiful bride-to-be

This week I had the pleasure of working on wedding portraits for my friend Awena. This was fun for several reasons. First, my model looked absolutely stunning....this makes my job a lot easier! Second, she'd asked that the drawings remain sketchy and gestural which is a more natural way of working for me. And third, it offered me an opportunity for some life drawing which I don't get nearly enough of these days.

Awena's wedding is just a few days away. These drawings are being given as gifts to her husband and parents. I hope they love them!
