Typewriter PP pattern {and a tutorial}

Today, I'm sharing with you the Typewriter pattern, which I desigend for the PP classes at this year's Fat Quarterly Retreat in London (btw. there is a blog post on Liberty's blog about the Retreat and the PP classes and there are photos of mine and Julianna's PP blocks!).

It's an intermediate block, with few very small pieces and to make it a bit easier, there are two versions of templates - for 12x12inch and 16x16inch block.

[I will be on holidays for next 2,5 weeks. I will try to answer my emails once or twice a week, but no promises, so if you'll have any questions, don't worry, I'll contact you after I'm back.]

* You can download the block templates via GoogleDocs or Craftsy *

I just wanted to show you few blocks which the talented participants of our classes already finished:

*and can you believe that this block was made by PP beginner? Me neither! Made by Jessie*

Like with all my PP patterns, the templates in pdf file are mirrorred, so you need to sew printed side up, placing the fabrics to the wrong side of the template; wrong side of the fabric to the wrong side of the template).
Mirror image with numbers:

Assembling block:

* C+A+B -> CAB + D -> CABD + E -> CABDE
* F+G -> FG + I + H -> FGIH + J -> FGIHJ
* CABDE + FGIHJ -> bottom part of the block
* M+L -> ML + N -> MLN + O -> MLNO
* Q+P -> QP + R -> QPR + S -> QPRS
* QPRS + K + MLNO -> QPRSKMLNO + T -> top part of the block
* bottom part + top part -> Typewriter block is ready!

I would of course LOVE! to see your blocks. You could just send me a link to your blog post/Flickr photo or you could also add your photos to my Flickr group.

Back from Fat Quarterly Retreat

First things first. I updated the giveaway post from the DWR Challenge with the name of the winner.

I'm also postponing the PapeARRR! Piecing Adventures series until I'm back from Poland (I'll be away next week till 22nd of August), so next block is comming on 26th of August.

Sorry for the delay. After comming back from London late in the night on Sunday, I had to wake up very early to work on Monday. Whole Monday, Tuesday and almost whole Wednesday I spent at work and on Thursday and Friday I finally had some time to take care of the house, my cats and even to sit in peace and sew something :)
How was the Retreat, you'll ask? Julianna has already wrote a post about the it, so you can take a look on her blog

If you are curious and want to see lots of photos, just visit the FQRetreat Flickr group. I took a camera with me but I have to say I didn't make any photos from the Retreat (I just have some pics from a sightseeing tour, which me and Julianna took on Sunday, before flying back).
London was HOT. I mean, extremely HOT (compared to what we are used to in Europe). Lately we had some pretty warm days in Germany and when flying to London, I thought that I will somehow manage, but there was no air conditioning in the hotel, so after a hot day outside, we were comming to even hotter hotel room... it was like going in to sauna. Good, that in the rooms where the Retreat took place was air conditioning.

I'm so glad, that I could finally meet all the people, whom - up to now - I knew only via their blogs. It was great to see Agnieszka, Aylin, Miriam, Tacha (who broght with her a first prin-out of the book about PP to which me and Julianna contributed), Kerry, Leila, Lynne and Brioni and, and, and...  so many wonderful people and talented quilters!

Post z rozdawajka DWR juz zaktualizowalam. Wrocilysmy z Julianna z Londynu poznym wieczorem w niedziele i dopiero teraz mialam chwile wolnego, zeby o wszystkim napisac (od poniedzialku do srody w pracy, a w czwartek i piatek musialam sie wreszcie troche domem i kotami zajac). Bylo goraco. Przerazliwie goraco.
Zawsze to jednak razniej i mniej stresujaco w nowym miejscu. Na zdjeciu ponizej ja (stoje zwrocona plecami), Julianna (w granatowej sukience) i Agnieszka (w koszuli w kratke):

Me (you can see my back), Julianna (bark blue dress) and Agnieszka (checked shirt) in the bottom right corner:

On Friday we had our EPP classes (I'm just borrowing all the photos as I didn't make any):

W piatek prowadzilysmy z Lulka zajecia z EPP (kilka pozyczonych fotek):

That's how the EPP elements looked:

and Sara @ Sew Little to Say already did the whole block!

And few glimpses from our PP classes, which took place on Saturday afternoon (yup, that's me).

A w sobote 3h zajecia z PP z blokiem maszyny do pisania.

Next week I will share the free pattern and a tutorial for the Typewriter PP pattern, here, on my blog, so stay tuned if you would like to sew one :)

I would like to thank all the participants of our workshops. You rock!

FQ Retreat London 2013 - Hello, my name is...

Recently, on Fat Quarterly, Lynne wrote a post with a linky party for those, who are comming to FQ Retreat in London.

There is already quite a list of people, who wrote an introduction post on themselves and I thought it's time to join and write a bit about me.
Those, who are reading my blog for some time now know, that I'm not writing much about my personal life. I always try to limit my posts to important sewing and sewing related topics. Why? One thing is that I do not like to share too many details online (which are available for everybody without any control), and second, that I'm quite an introvert and I guess would feel uneasy, sharing a portion of my private world.
But I will try to write few things about me in this post (just so you know what to expect on the Retreat ;)

That's me :) I'm 30, polish, I now live in Germany, where I did my PhD (in biology) and where I currently work:

I have 2 maine coon cats - orange Xanthos the Summer Rose and black-smoke Wesley the Summer Rose:

As I already mentioned I'm terribly shy (I really am) and sometimes I'm also a bit grumpy too ;) As my best friend once said, I'm 'different' and you need to invest some time to know me better (but I can asure, that it's worth it, LOL)

In my free time, as you all now I sew (recently not so often anymore, as I came back to work), work out, cook, read, shop for fabric ;) and shoes (hehe).

Few sewing achievements...
* publications in Quilter's World, Modern Patchwork, Quilters Newsletter and a book (details in 'Published work' tab on the top of my blog)
* awards at Festival of Quilts in Birmingham 2012 and at Prague Patchwork Meeting 2013

That's the nametag I'll be wearing (not perfect and still a bit of washable marker has to be washed out from it):

And here's everything prepared to be packed - nametag, some goodies for the participants of the PP workshop and my PP blocks which I will take with me as PP examples to show:

 See you soon at the FQ Retreat!

Fat Quarterly Retreat 2013

Julianna already wrote about it HERE, but how can I miss the opportunity to share such great news with you :D
We (me and Julianna) will be teaching PP and EPP at Fat Quarterly Retreat in London next year :) For this, I have to give credit to Julianna. It was her idea to approach FQuarterly staff and ask to join the retreat as teachers. Can't wait to meet there all those quilters which I now know only online.

For PP classes I designed a typewriter block. Here's my version (you can see Julianna's version on her blog). I already have a plan what to sew with this block, but I will reveal the project on the FQ Retreat :)

For EPP classes (and those will be all about curves, not plain EPP :D ), Julianna designed this block (I didn not make my version yet, but I will):

Julianna na zajecia z EPP zaprojektowala taki blok (musze jeszcze uszyc swoja wersje):

I hope those of you who are going (let me know if you do!) to the Retreat are as excited as I am :D
