Yasmina's Secret.

Surely such a mighty warrior as you need not fear a soft female such as me.
Why don't you join me on the pillows and perhaps we can find a more pleasurable way to settle our differences.

Then when our brave hero's back is turned...

When I first saw the Hatun Yasmina figure it immediately made me think of the 5e D&D artwork for the Lamia. I still had some lion miniatures sticking in the leadpile so I decided to order two Yasmina's and see if I couldn't make something happen.

The terrain was a test to see if I could make a set of tiles and scatter that better represents the kind of opulent palace that conan likes to sneak into in search of oppertunities😇

I had fun making them so you may expect to see more like these in the future.

Stroezie.

More Shrooms and Dark Elves.

I decided to experiment a little to see if I couldn't come up with an idea to make more mushrooms quickly.

After rummaging through the bits box I came up with these.

Different sizes of half beads and .177 and .22 airgun pellets => instant mushrooms.

Not as good looking as my fully sculpted ones  but way faster to make so I'll take 'em!

I decided to try doing a tree to.
It looks ok but I think I'll stick to making these  fully by hand as there  is much less of a time save.

On the  minis side of things, I decided that my dark elves lacked leadership so I painted up a priestess and her fiendish bodyguard.
(both are from Splintered light miniatures)
The figure on the ground was made from all the green stuff and milliput leftovers from other sculpting projects.

Well, that's it for now.
Next time we learn how to summon monsters...

Stroezie.

More Caves and Mushrooms.

I managed to make some more progress on my modular cavern terrain.

I wanted a way to add some elevation so I made some simple risers from foamcore and some wall pieces to go in front of them.

I like them, but I will be experimenting some more I think to break up that ruler straight line.

As I was about to paint the last wall piece I suddenly thought to myself "I could paint this blue and have a little waterfall !" and so...

Then, as a change of pace, I decided to try my hand at some more fungus terrain.

I made two mushroom trees.

I really like how these turned out and I'll definately be making more of them.
If people are interested I may even do a little tutorial.

And then of course I couldn't resist building a little encounter, just to see how it all goes together.

Perfect for a big end battle! 😉

And of course a close up of our two heroes about to enter into an epic battle with their fungal opponents.

That's it for now.

Stroezie.

I Got My Mojo Back !!!

I've been in a bit of a gaming and crafting funk this last month but now I've found my mojo back and I have my 7 year old daughter to thank for it.
She was getting bored sitting at home all the time so I had given her a block of Das clay I had lying around. She took it straight up to her room and about two hours later she presented me with two monsters she'd made and told me I had to paint them so I could use them with my little men.

How could I refuse...

So here's the first, a tentacled Lovecraftian horror , which I have been informed is actually only the head of a gigantic subterranean worm.

And the second one, a cave monster who lures greedy adventures into its mouth using large gemstones.

As you can see he's perfectly camouflaged and blends right into his surroundings.
They'll never suspect a thing!

I had so much fun painting these that I kept right on going with some terrain building.
The first things I made were these stalagmite tiles for my cavern set.
Really simple, I just twisted some aluminum foil into the desired shapes and hot glued them to the tiles, some basing sand and paint and Bob's your uncle.

Going for more easy wins I decided to finally base and paint all my left over green stuff mushrooms.

And then I finally finished painting the board I'm going to be using my dungeon/cavern tiles on.

It's a magnetic whiteboard which I picked up at a second hand store for the princely sum of  €3.
All the tiles are mounted on magnetic paper so I can set up a scene before a session and not have to worry about things shifting when I pull it out.
As you can see they stay on really well.

That's it for now,
I'll leave you with some glamour shots of the new beasties on the table...

What's this? A mushroom grove...

Or a nursery!

Parallel worlds or what !?!

Stroezie.

More Caves and Monsters

Ok, first post of the year.
What! Wait where did January go?
Oh well...   there goes that new years resolution...

Let's see what I've been up to then...

First of I've been bangin' away at some more cavern tiles for D&D

As you can see I'm starting to get enough pieces together so that I can build a decent battle scene

I'm thinking of making some water edge tiles to soften the transitions from land to water a bit and then some scatter terrain like stalacmites, mushroom clusters and crystal formations.

On to the miniature painting side then...

No D&D is complete without some Orcs

More orcs...

And a couple of adventurers to help stop said orcs

This next mini is from the last splintered light kickstarter, when I saw him I pledged immediately,
personally I think it is the coolest looking minotaur miniature you can find in 15mm.

Makes for a really butch end of session bad guy imo.

The next three figures are actually from the old 28mm Rackham line, I think they were supposed to be some kind of air elemental familiars or something.

They make great 15mm guardian spirits though,
the question is "Are they friend or foe?"

I've also based and primed a whole bunch of undead so with a bit of luck I should have more pics to share with you soon.

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Ps: sorry for the quality of some of the pictures, I have just swapped out all my old lamp bulbs for LED's and I'm struggling a little to find the right camera settings to compensate.

Dungeons & Dra... erm.. Mushrooms.

So, what have I been up to lately?
Well, I decided to try my hand at making some modular dungeon and cavern tiles.
I've been playing a lot of  Rangers of Shadow Deep and D&D and I want to increase my indoor options.
Here's what I've got so far

I got the design from Wyloch's Armory , if you have not done so already, you should definately check out his youtube channel it's awesome!

The only change I made was to rescale them for 15mm and magnetise the bottoms so they don't slide around during play ( I have a white board as a playing surface )

I also painted some more dwarfs.
In my mind they are a cleric, a wizard and a fighter, although they could always end up being something else once they hit the table.
The campfire is a quick sculpt I did because I needed one in a game.

I hate to waste green stuff so I usually always have some press molds or dump sculpts so I can use up any leftovers.
These are the results of my latest batch of dump sculpts.

and a shot with the dwarves to give you an idea of their size.

Thats it for now.

So what's next?
Well, I've cut a small mountain of tiles to further expand my dungeons,
have just recieved my kickstarter pledge  from Splintered Light and to top it all off,
daughter number one has asked me to help her roll up a character for D&D.
All in all, I should have plenty more to share with you soon.

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Just An Other Boring Chest, Nothing to See Here...

Got some more sculpting done, finished the little chest and made a bigger one.

Treasure chests! Quick, check for traps...
And then just couldn't resist trying my hand at sculpting one of these...

Oh no! Too late...

This little Mimic was really fun to do. I think ,as I start doing other furniture, more of them may end up  sneaking in 😎 ( isn't he adorable? )

I also painted these skeletal knights from Ral Partha's 1879 18mm VSF line.
Sadly my flash seems to have washed out the colors and depth a bit but you can still get an idea of what they look like.
I like their slightly more exotic look, makes them look like they are from some long lost civilisation imo.

Real life has been keeping me busy so that's all for now.

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Micromunda Scatter Terain

I have been told Necromunda needs lots of stuff for gangers to hide behind.
Ok then lets build some scatter terrain 😎

I started with a classic to get me going,
everybody has done the stack of pipes, quick and easy linear terrain what's not to like?
Next were a set of crates and canisters on pallets from Angel Barracks which I magnetised and put on some magnetic paper disks so they can be used as both scatter terain and loot counters.
The last items in this picture are a form of fungus that explodes when fired upon ideal for placing next to the previous loot counters.😈

Then I decided to recycle some of the offcuts littering my workstation into some rubble baricades.

For some reason only the Emperor knows tyres and cogs are stacked together in the underhive, but I thought it looked cool so...
The other items in this pic are my take on the ubiquitous Necromunda air vents.
Lots of fun/superglued fingers making these.

And lastly some slime pits to make running across those walkways a more interesting choice.
Oh and I almost forgot, I made two hills/risers, one of which you can see below to. The sides are also magnitic and the ladders are removable. I will be making some other stuff like stairs, ramps, terminals and junction boxes to attach to them to.

As you can see the board is filling up nicely

I have read through the Necromunda rules and have started reading Inquisimunda to.
I think once I've played a few games of Necromunda and gotten the hang of the rules I'll probably be expanding to Inquisimundan simply because there are so many cool minis out there and knowing myself it won't be long before I start looking at ways to bring them into my games.

So next on my to do list:
First make some measuring sticks, because at the reduced scale I'm going to be playing one unit of movement is 7mm so 28mm base move, thats a little finnicky to use a normal tape measure don't you think.
Then templates, again at the reduced scale, don't know if I'm just going to print them out on card or try something a bit more fancy, we'll see.
And of course, stat out my two gangs so we can start to rumble!!!

Cheers,
Stroezie.

I Dreamed A Dream By The Old Canal...

And the sump canal board is done!
Over all I'm quite happy with how it turned out.
It was a bit of a compromise between weathering it and keeping the thing even enough for the magnetic paper to have enough flat surface to grip onto.
In the end I decided to sponge paint some rust effects on the tiles and use some washes to dirty it up some more. I'll be adding some more dirt, debris and general litter as scatter terrain later.

Here's the whole board put together

Which seperates into nine modular tiles

Here's a few closer pics of the sump canals so you can see the little details

I also managed to finish two gangs,

The DRM Orlocks from the last post

And some Goliaths (Wasteland Gangers/Warriors from Microworld miniatures)

Ahh nudie pic!😁

and here with some paint on them

The shanties in the background are from Angel Barracks and I have a few vague ideas of making some platforms for them to turn them into a kind of vertical favela, we'll see...

First though I want to do some scatter terrain as Necromunda, and imo skirmish games in general, needs lots of cover for minis to hide behind.
I already have a collection of the usual oil drums, crates and jersy barriers but I'd like to add some things more in character with the setting.
For now I'm planning to do some loot tokens, rubble barricades, exploding mushrooms and heat vents. (feel free to add any cool idea's you may have to this list.)

Ok, time to go stat out those gangs now so I can try to get a game on and who knows maybe we'll even see the ever elusive batrep show up in the future. 😳

Cheers,
Stroezie.
