I Dreamed A Dream By The Old Canal...

And the sump canal board is done!
Over all I'm quite happy with how it turned out.
It was a bit of a compromise between weathering it and keeping the thing even enough for the magnetic paper to have enough flat surface to grip onto.
In the end I decided to sponge paint some rust effects on the tiles and use some washes to dirty it up some more. I'll be adding some more dirt, debris and general litter as scatter terrain later.

Here's the whole board put together

Which seperates into nine modular tiles

Here's a few closer pics of the sump canals so you can see the little details

I also managed to finish two gangs,

The DRM Orlocks from the last post

And some Goliaths (Wasteland Gangers/Warriors from Microworld miniatures)

Ahh nudie pic!😁

and here with some paint on them

The shanties in the background are from Angel Barracks and I have a few vague ideas of making some platforms for them to turn them into a kind of vertical favela, we'll see...

First though I want to do some scatter terrain as Necromunda, and imo skirmish games in general, needs lots of cover for minis to hide behind.
I already have a collection of the usual oil drums, crates and jersy barriers but I'd like to add some things more in character with the setting.
For now I'm planning to do some loot tokens, rubble barricades, exploding mushrooms and heat vents. (feel free to add any cool idea's you may have to this list.)

Ok, time to go stat out those gangs now so I can try to get a game on and who knows maybe we'll even see the ever elusive batrep show up in the future. 😳

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Chilopoda Dolichopterus

Over at The Wargames Website they are running a "make your own alien fauna" competition for all the sponsoring members.
Thinking to myself, I can do that me! I decided to have a go.

Here's my entry for the competition, sculpted in a 50/50 mix off greenstuff/milliput over a wire and beads armature.

I present you with the Chilopoda Dolichopterus

A species of mega fauna native to the basalt cliffs in the jungles of the planet of Kessel D-93.

It's many legs end in feet that look like a cross between that of a camel and the suckers of an octopus allowing it to easily scale even the sheerest cliff faces where it grazes on the algea which grow there. The downward facing mouth of the creature is optimised for scraping off not only the algea but also the topmost layer of rock which is crushed and digested in its seven stomachs.

Although they are strictly herbivorous these creatures can be dangerous as they are very territorial and care must be taken when aproaching them. While it's mouth is too over specialised be used to attack its many legs are equipped with razor sharp bone tips at the joints which can easily rip the flesh of an attacking preadator or trespasser.

The carapace of these magnificent animals is highly prised by the local tribes of Avians who also call the cliffs their homes and who use it to craft both armor and jewelry. There are rumors of  tribes that have succesfully domesticated them and even use them as warmounts but these have not yet been substantiated.

Like so many of the mega fauna on Kessel D-93 the Chilopoda Dolichopterus continues to grow for it's entire life. What makes this species unique is that, unlike all the other specimens observed so far, it not only grows bigger but also longer, growing an extra segment and a pair of leggs about every two Kesselian years( about four and a half earth years). As the young are born with four legs one can thus easily determine a specimens age by simply counting the extra pairs of legs.

And now some pictures supplied to us by that indomitable explorer and big game hunter sir Timothy.

We would like to remind our gentle readers that sir Timothy is a trained professional and we pray, that should you ever be so lucky as to take your own safari to Kessel D-93, you do not attempt to copy this feat of daring do.

As usual, should you have any more questions about these wonderous creatures, feel free to write us in the comments.

Yours truly,

Stroezie.

Judges and Gangers! Oh My!

About a year ago I made some Judge Dredd minis out of the exelent GZG Nac troopers.

Here's a pic.

Why? Well...      .... euh..   ...just because I could actually 😛

I got the idea in my head, I had them lying around, so I decided to try making them, I did and then more or less forgot about them.

Untill I ran into Microworlds awesome Wasteland Warriors line and decided it was time to turn them into a full blown project.

I ordered a bunch of microworld figures, both gangers and vehicles and while I waited for them to arrive I finished the rest of my Judges and their rides.

From left to right Judge Dredd, Judge Barbara Hershey, Judge Cassandra Anderson and Judge Giant.

The bad guys arrived from HLS models in record time and I wasted no time basing and priming them.

Here they are ready for paint.

I was a little bit worried because I'd read some comments that the Wasteland figures were a little on the large side for 6mm but, although some of them are indead quite large, all in all they turned out to be quite compatible imo. and I even have a picture to prove it to you

I've already painted a few of the more punk style warriors.
They are great sculpts with lots of detail, altough I must admit they can be a bit intimidating to start on.

As I was painting them I suddenly remembered I had an Angel Barracks mini that was perfect for this project and here he is to.

Hold it right there perp!

That's all I've got painted for now.

I think I will use these for a test game of the TwoHourWargame Chain Reaction rules as I am thinking of getting the Urban Renewal, New hope City P.I. and Machinas rules to cobble something together that will let me capture the Judge Dredd Case Files feeling.

I will do my utmost best to give you an AAR of that but with my (non existent) AAR track record I ain't promising anything.😅

Stay safe citizens and remember OBEY THE LAW!

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Mega City 6(mm)

Ok so after one to many comments that the Ground zero Games 6mm NAC troopers looked a little like Mega City judges I could no longer resist.
I just had to do Judge Dredd in 6mm ;-))

This thread will chronicle my efforts to bring "The Law" to both Junkertown and the neighbouring comunity of Cherryblossom Heights.

Here's what I've got so far.

So we have from left to right Judge Cassandra Anderson, Judge Dredd and Judge Giant and in the back Dredd on his Lawmaster bike.

I've since found two more of the bikes in my bits box so Anderson and Giant should get their rides too, after that I have a few ideas for some more vehicles but then things will probably be on hold until Microworld releases their new Microwasteland line, we'll see…

Oh and for those of you new to the blog and unfamiliar with both Junkertown or Cherryblossom Heights here's a few pictures of our intrepid hero's beat

YOU THERE!!! Senior citzen! Jay walking! Five years cryo-cell! Effective immediately! Please await pickup.

Thats it for now, stay tuned for more…

Ps: If any of you have a recomendation for rules that handle street chases well please leave a comment.

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Welcome to the jungle...

Well they say september/october is the best time of the year for planting trees, so that's what I've been doing :D
I've finally completed my basic junglecrawl tile set based on the tiles for the old GW game Lost Patrol, although I already have some ideas to go beond that as I'm thinking of using them as the base for some 6mm space 1889 venus.

But now without further ado here is...

The lost patrol( Darkrealm Pax Arcadia jungle troops)

Their ride out of here( Darkrealm Pax Arcadia cargo chopper)

But how are they going to get there before being eaten?

Not only are there alien monsters hidden in the jungle, the terrain itself seems to want to stop these poor grunts.

A slippery moss covered boulderfield

A swamp/bog with maybe some quicksand?

Some kind of mushrooms that release choking spores if josteled.

Giant venus flytraps

Here's a pic of all the hazard tiles together, I also added a tile with some removable drillworm nests(Angel Barracks drillworm nests).

And a picture of all the tiles together

Future plans include three or more combined hex tiles, so I can make bigger clearings and maybe even some structures, and some triangular inserts so I can use small groups of tiles as forest terrain on larger boards.

Well, thats it for now.
The next post will probably be about some new boards I'm tying out and how they will be stored.

To close of I'd like to ask you all a quick question.
Lately I've been dipping my toes in some 6mm fantasy and, as stated above, I am looking  to start with some 6mm vsf, both of them skirmish games.
So my question to you is:

Would you be interested to read about these projects here or would you prefer I put them on a different blog?

Cheers,
Stroezie.

All Aboard!!!

Just a quick post to show off my new Angel Barracks Repulsorlift train

Now how cool is that!?!

When I ordered it Michael told me I was the first one to buy one, which actually surprised me since there were a lot of very positive comments when he first annouced he would be releasing a scifi train set.

I think the problem may very well be that people are waiting to see if more options come out before buying it ,while Michael is first waiting to see if it sells or not.

This is sad as there were a number of follow up options, like a passenger car, a freight car and maybe even an armor upgrade that now may never see the light of day as he can't afford to put more time/money into a product that does not sell. (although he has already built a trainstation)

So if you are on the fence about buying this thing, DO IT!

I want my freight car dang'nabbit!
How else am I going to get to play any Firefly style trainrobberies ;-)

Kessel-D93 jungle survival 1 Oh 1

As this is going to be a sword and planet adventure I wanted something that looked alien but also something that would look like it could grow on an earth like planet.
As much as possible I tried to take my inspiration from the stranger things found in nature here on earth, you'd be surprised how many weird and wonderfully alien looking things grow here :-)

Pfc Buckley  will give you a tour of everything we know of the jungle on Kessel-D93

Here you see a selection of the various trees that are regularily encountered in the jungle
The plants on Kessel-D93 contain high levels of phycobilins in their chloroplasts giving them red, orange and yellow colors.
They were made from aquarium plants, floral wire, tooth picks, clump foliage and a number of different beads.

There is no real grass analogue on Kessel-D93 the closest thing is a sort of red moss witch can grow in huge patches, yet strangely never under any of the trees.

This is the first test piece for the hills I plan on building.
They are inspired by the devil's causeway in Ireland and are made up out of  hexagon shaped basalt columns formed by volcanic activity.
Construction was really simple I just hotglued different lengths of pencil cut offs to a base and filled up the interior with more hotglue and sand.

One of the really cool things in the Rogue Planet rules is the ability to attack your opponent with the local flora and fauna so I needed to build me some agressive plantlife.
I decided that my aggresive plants would mimic the other trees in the jungle as camouflage to lure their prey closer.

The first one here is known as the Hangman tree, I don't think this needs much of an explanation ;-)

The Spiker is another agressive species of carnivorous tree which hunts its victims by shooting them with its poisonous spines.

Apart from the dangerous plantlife there is also the locale wildlife to contend with

These are Drillworm  nests from Angel Barracks. I've had these in the painting cue for quite some time, I decided to move them up as they are just about perfect for something like this.

Of course AB's Razor hounds had to make an appearance to.

And, as on any planet, there's always the chance of encountering some wild space bugs ;-)
The small ones are from GZG the larger ones from Rebel minis

And here's how it all ties together

I'm thinking of building a few bigger stand of trees to fill up the board a little more to really get that dense jungle atmosphere. At the moment it feels more like the savannah, althoug that might be an interesting setting too , I'll have to think on that....

Thats all for now, I hope you enjoyed our little jaunt through the lovely forrests of Kessel-D93.
See you next time,
Stroezie.

City Expansion Report

Ok, so for my first post of the year I'd like to show you all what I've been doing during the holidays.
I managed the finish both the uptown highclass area of my city with a number of scratch build high rises made of Mega Blocks( a cheap sort of Duplo knockoff) and the lowdown, dirt poor slum area known as Junker Town.

First up the high rises.

They were made by simply stacking the bricks to create different builings..

Then I cut of the nubs on top, glued some fine grain sandpaper on the roof , spray painted them and then I stuck on strips of  black electrical tape for the windows. At first I was thinking of stopping there but then I decided to paint the windows and add some more greeblies( most of them scratch build with a few larger pieces from GZG)  like so...

Here's a comparison pic with and without the painted windows

I like the painted windows better, a hell of a lot more work, but worth it in the end imo.

Wich brings us to the next part, the Junker town.
Bar the two in the front, which are scratch builds, all these builings are from the exelent Junker and Stonehaven lines from Angel Barracks. They have a lot of character and a ton of fun little details making them a blast to paint, more like painting a miniature than terrain!

There have been five or six more new releases in the Stonehaven line which are also on my to buy list and I'm sure that by the time I get around to ordering them Michael will have released even more, but I think you'll agree that these are already starting to make up a nice little Favela.

And some pictures of the complete board so far

And as you can see construction continues with a new pumping station and powerplant (mine's a scratch build but if you want one AB's your man ;-)

I'll have to make some more pavements first but  then I'm thinking of building mono rail inserts for the canal area and add some signs to the buildings and maybe a few billboards. I'd also like to make some more street furniture. Things like dumpsters, bus stops, maybe a hotdog cart? Idea's are always welcome (not saying I'll build it, but I'll think about it.
;-)

Well thats it for now, Thanks for watching,
Stroezie signing off.
