Powell's Rangers to the Rescue !!!

Howdy folks,

sorry it's been so long since my last post.
What can I say, a busy time at work followed by me having trouble getting my hobby mojo back.
Rest assured though I'm back in full swing now (got tons of plans/projects) and regular postings should resume.

So what got me back in the saddle?
These guys from Onslaught Miniatures.

I present to you Powell's Rangers, shown here with their nano-flage set to parade colors.
They are an elite mercenary unit whose adventures will be the focus my next 6mm campaign.

As you can see all the figures were modified at least a little to make them fit my own universe some what better.
I started by removing the second rocket packs on the right shoulders of all the figures.
The pink rig got a weapons upgrade from the standard DEG gun to an autocannon as a squad support weapon.
The yellow rig got an electronic warfare suite added to her right shoulder.
And finaly the blue rig was fitted with a heavy missile pod and artillary cannon to provide long range fire support.

What will all this awesome firepower be use on you ask?

Well for starters...

..... BUG STOMPING OF COURSE !!!

Can you say Blue Gender

Also other enemy mecha both regular army and rival mercs for some roller scating VOTOMS action.
(Can never get enough of that😎)

And of course it wouldn't be scifi without some evil corporation with it's own private army now would it?

I'll be using my usual mash-up of rules to allow for solo play, enoug grit to suit me and story developpement.

Considering my track record with doing AAR's ( ie. complete failure) I've decided I will aim low and settle for taking a few in game pictures and writing a short blurb on the overall action.
If I can manage to do a few of those I'll see about going more in depth.

Well that's it for now,

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Because I can !

Sometimes I get an idea to build something, not because I need it for a game but just because I can.

So I built this today, say hello to my little retro scifi tank 😎

Sadly, as is often the case, I got so caught up building the thing, that I completely forgot to take pictures during construction.
To atone for my sins I'll try to give you a list of the components used.

5mm foamcore for the main hull.
The drives are a 6mm bead, a piece of tubing from a kids balloon and a .177 air rifle pellet.
The turret is a 10mm bead which has been ground down almost but not completely halfway and the barrel is the gas vent valve from a mini bic lighter.

All in all this was an easy and fun little project, I hope this will inspire you to try some scratch building yourself.

Also for those wondering, the minis in the pictures are GZG NAC troopers which I added a green stuff helmet crest and a cape to.

Hope you enjoyed my idle afternoon's labour as much as me πŸ˜‰

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Judges and Gangers! Oh My!

About a year ago I made some Judge Dredd minis out of the exelent GZG Nac troopers.

Here's a pic.

Why? Well...      .... euh..   ...just because I could actually πŸ˜›

I got the idea in my head, I had them lying around, so I decided to try making them, I did and then more or less forgot about them.

Untill I ran into Microworlds awesome Wasteland Warriors line and decided it was time to turn them into a full blown project.

I ordered a bunch of microworld figures, both gangers and vehicles and while I waited for them to arrive I finished the rest of my Judges and their rides.

From left to right Judge Dredd, Judge Barbara Hershey, Judge Cassandra Anderson and Judge Giant.

The bad guys arrived from HLS models in record time and I wasted no time basing and priming them.

Here they are ready for paint.

I was a little bit worried because I'd read some comments that the Wasteland figures were a little on the large side for 6mm but, although some of them are indead quite large, all in all they turned out to be quite compatible imo. and I even have a picture to prove it to you

I've already painted a few of the more punk style warriors.
They are great sculpts with lots of detail, altough I must admit they can be a bit intimidating to start on.

As I was painting them I suddenly remembered I had an Angel Barracks mini that was perfect for this project and here he is to.

Hold it right there perp!

That's all I've got painted for now.

I think I will use these for a test game of the TwoHourWargame Chain Reaction rules as I am thinking of getting the Urban Renewal, New hope City P.I. and Machinas rules to cobble something together that will let me capture the Judge Dredd Case Files feeling.

I will do my utmost best to give you an AAR of that but with my (non existent) AAR track record I ain't promising anything.πŸ˜…

Stay safe citizens and remember OBEY THE LAW!

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Return to the Jungles of Kessel-D93

I needed a little bit of a break from my red martians so I decided to finally finish my alien jungle board.
I made four stands of alien foliage so I could change my alien savannah into more of a true jungle.

Here's the stands in my lightbox

And here they are on the board

With a bit of luck I should be getting a copy of Horizon Wars for christmass and then we'll be able to set this little scene in motion.

Cheers,
Stroezie.

What have I been Up to?

Ok, so I'm still waiting for the rest of the miniatures to arrive before I can do any more work on my red martians but I did manage to do 3 hero/leader figures
I redid their weapons and added a cape and gold choker to two of them and thats about it.
The minis are all from Rapier miniatures 2 sea people and a greek hoplite.

I kept thinking the flyers would also be great for someting like Flash Gordon so I cooked up some figures to try it out

Hmm, I think I smell yet another project coming.... ;D ;)

Btw. here are a few pictures of the new flyers now that they have some paint on them

I've decided to build one more flyer of each type but with a few small changes so that I can try to cast them in resin ( this will be a first for me so we'll see how it goes)

And last but by no means least I've painted some figures sent to me by Chris Hudson from the exelent Dispatches from the front blog( do check him out if you havn't already, lots of great stuff there) Thanks Chris!!

That's it for now, hopefully my figures will show up soon and I'll have more to show you.
Cheers,
Stroezie.

Mega City 6(mm)

Ok so after one to many comments that the Ground zero Games 6mm NAC troopers looked a little like Mega City judges I could no longer resist.
I just had to do Judge Dredd in 6mm ;-))

This thread will chronicle my efforts to bring "The Law" to both Junkertown and the neighbouring comunity of Cherryblossom Heights.

Here's what I've got so far.

So we have from left to right Judge Cassandra Anderson, Judge Dredd and Judge Giant and in the back Dredd on his Lawmaster bike.

I've since found two more of the bikes in my bits box so Anderson and Giant should get their rides too, after that I have a few ideas for some more vehicles but then things will probably be on hold until Microworld releases their new Microwasteland line, we'll see…

Oh and for those of you new to the blog and unfamiliar with both Junkertown or Cherryblossom Heights here's a few pictures of our intrepid hero's beat

YOU THERE!!! Senior citzen! Jay walking! Five years cryo-cell! Effective immediately! Please await pickup.

Thats it for now, stay tuned for more…

Ps: If any of you have a recomendation for rules that handle street chases well please leave a comment.

Cheers,
Stroezie.

Space Hulk Nano Part Deux.

Just a quick post to share the Space Hulk ladders, blips and fire counters I made.

Group shot

Quick explanation.
Ladders are granny grating and those little spacer rings that come with my el cheapo tubes of superglue.
Blips are sewing pins pushed through a disk of magnetic paper and snipped off.
Fire markers are basically made completely out of hotglue using DmScotty's method.

And a little story for your enjoyment

Two troopers are sent out to investigate some ghostly blips on the scanners...

OH DROKK!!!  We've got bugs!!!

Nuke'm from beond the airlock, its the only way to be sure.

Well thats all I got for you for now.
Cheers,
Stroezie.

Space 1889 here I come !!!

While waiting for my order from Iregular miniatures to arrive I started building a few vehicles for my  new Space 1889 adventures.
Now that my order has arrived and I've got some minis to go along with them I thought I'd share them with you.

The english force,
Can't have Victorian scifi without some of Vicky's own now can we?

The pinacle of British engineering, this huge walker is armed with a 4.7 inch naval gun and can carry upto 4 extra troopers who can shoot from the safety of  their firing platforms.

Ze nefarious Germans

The Machienen krieger is a modified GZG Fat boy infantry walker
I removed the optics and gave him a pickelhaube...

rebuilt his machine gun into a gatling gun...

added a boiler and smoke stack...

and replaced his left hand with a drill.

here's a pic of all the VSF figures I have painted so far, should be enough for a few test games as I start hunting for a set of VSF rules I like.

And, as a taste of more things to come, Lt. Rockbottom was kind enough to show us a vehicle captured from yet another colonial power.

Built in the new Minerva factory in Antwerp these wheeled tanks are armed with either a gatling gun or the French made Reffye 85 mm cannon.

So what else can you expect to see in the (hopefully near) future?

Well for the colonial powers I'm looking to start with English, German, Belgian, French and Italians.
Each faction will have a core of: an officer, between 6 to 9 troopers, an artillery piece (gun, gatling or machine gun) and 1 or 2 vehicles. After that they'll get whatever I think would be cool for that particular nation.

For the Martians I bought a bunch of Mahdist and some renaisance sword and buckler and matchlock men to serve as Hill and Canal Martians respectively.

For Venus I havn't bought any indigenous peoples yet, but I have my eye on Microworlds exelent fantasy lizard men and maybe Onslaught Miniatures Avians for parrotmen.

And of course terrain, lots and lots of terrain ideas...         ...but then, knowing me, you knew that already didn't you.

I'm still looking for a good set of VSF rules so if you have any recomendations please fire away in the comments.

Well time to start up the old aether propeller and be of,
cheers,
Stroezie.

Kessel-D93 jungle survival 1 Oh 1

As this is going to be a sword and planet adventure I wanted something that looked alien but also something that would look like it could grow on an earth like planet.
As much as possible I tried to take my inspiration from the stranger things found in nature here on earth, you'd be surprised how many weird and wonderfully alien looking things grow here :-)

Pfc Buckley  will give you a tour of everything we know of the jungle on Kessel-D93

Here you see a selection of the various trees that are regularily encountered in the jungle
The plants on Kessel-D93 contain high levels of phycobilins in their chloroplasts giving them red, orange and yellow colors.
They were made from aquarium plants, floral wire, tooth picks, clump foliage and a number of different beads.

There is no real grass analogue on Kessel-D93 the closest thing is a sort of red moss witch can grow in huge patches, yet strangely never under any of the trees.

This is the first test piece for the hills I plan on building.
They are inspired by the devil's causeway in Ireland and are made up out of  hexagon shaped basalt columns formed by volcanic activity.
Construction was really simple I just hotglued different lengths of pencil cut offs to a base and filled up the interior with more hotglue and sand.

One of the really cool things in the Rogue Planet rules is the ability to attack your opponent with the local flora and fauna so I needed to build me some agressive plantlife.
I decided that my aggresive plants would mimic the other trees in the jungle as camouflage to lure their prey closer.

The first one here is known as the Hangman tree, I don't think this needs much of an explanation ;-)

The Spiker is another agressive species of carnivorous tree which hunts its victims by shooting them with its poisonous spines.

Apart from the dangerous plantlife there is also the locale wildlife to contend with

These are Drillworm  nests from Angel Barracks. I've had these in the painting cue for quite some time, I decided to move them up as they are just about perfect for something like this.

Of course AB's Razor hounds had to make an appearance to.

And, as on any planet, there's always the chance of encountering some wild space bugs ;-)
The small ones are from GZG the larger ones from Rebel minis

And here's how it all ties together

I'm thinking of building a few bigger stand of trees to fill up the board a little more to really get that dense jungle atmosphere. At the moment it feels more like the savannah, althoug that might be an interesting setting too , I'll have to think on that....

Thats all for now, I hope you enjoyed our little jaunt through the lovely forrests of Kessel-D93.
See you next time,
Stroezie.
