Mama Mia ... FNWF

Friday night went something like this ...

Settled down in the lounge, Millie on my lap of course, crochet on the go. Yes, earlier in the week I put my thinking cap on and got back into the hook and pull through.

Enjoying virtual company of friends and tapping my toes to the awesome songs of Mama Mia the movie, when the house was plunged into silence and darkness. Enough of a storm to create a blackout but only a few drops of rain. Nothing to do but feel my way around and into bed. Yesterday I found a moment to finish the row I was on.

Thank you Cheryll for bringing us together on a Friday night.

Here are a couple other finishes I haven't yet shared.  My next wash cloth ...

This quilt top was completed on the 30th Sept, right on time. "Ruth's Quilt"

Back to  the off farm work tomorrow, squeezed in between feeding the cattle and checking waters. An upside of driving round the paddocks so often is seeing all the new babies ... will share a photo or two next time.

Going For Gold

How's this for a once in a lifetime opportunity? THE 2018 Melbourne Cup is visiting our little town of Mt Perry yesterday and today. 100% of the gold for this year's cup was mined at the Mt Rawdon Goldmine on the outskirts of town.

A real goosebump moment ... very special.

This is the address to view the story behind the making of this year's cup. (Sorry I can't link)  https://vimeo.com/278493566/f0ebe00733

Back home and another gold finish for me ... Ruth's Quilt is a completed top ... love, love love it. Sitting on a queen bed, you can see it doesn't quite cover so I'm planning on adding a narrow black border and a 2nd border using the left over black/white rectangles.

My new shopping bag is also finished and holding my byo mesh fruit/vege bags. This one is from IGA ... a little paint, fabric and a doily it it has a whole new look.

Onward with the knitting needles and crochet hook ... what project will be next pst the finish post?

FNWF and Other Things

Never thought I'd be playing with paints Friday but that's where I started.

Then after dinner my black and whites called to me and I was able to finish joining all the horizontal seams on each strip.

Now I have 20 completed strips to begin joining the long side seams.

With NRL finals on the tv, I still had some time to sit and make these sweet little heart shape puffs and a couple of leaves to decorate my shopping bag.

When I went to post on Friday, I found a draft post sitting waiting so I best share here now.  This was the second dish cloth completed with the microfibre wool.

Wishing every night could be a Friday night.

Final 5 Tags

While nothing appears to be happening here on my blog, I've hardly had time to think straight!  Crazy life stuff ... tossed this way and that.  Keeping me grounded are these sweet little tags for Ruth's Quilt.

These are the last 5 tags which brings my total to 35 ... loved stitching on these and now to find time to trim them, cut into my lovely fat 1/4s and play.

Maybe my crochet hook or knitting needles will keep me company in the evenings.

Happy Stitching

3 Makes 30

Short, cold days mean more time for stitching ... I managed to catch up on the tags for May,

Finish 3 more for June,

Trace the last 5 ready for stitching and make a start on number 31.  Here are the first 27 tags (including May) all together and with June's 3 tags make a total of 30 completed. Feels great to have some good progress.

If At First You Don't Succeed ... and FNSI

I was all set last Friday night for FNWF but of course we know what can happen to best laid plans .... so as my title says, if at first you don't succeed, try try again.  So this Friday night I'm signing up with Wendy for a FNSI.

INSERT HERE (Once again best laid plans ... I wrote this post and was just taking a photo of the finished stitchery when hubby announced we were going driving. So 9 hours later and a long round trip through 4 neighbouring towns to pick up various "farm" parts and pieces, and here I am adding the picture and clicking on PUBLISH)

Pleased to add that I have managed to finish the stitchery I had planned to work on and now need to trace the next one ready for stitching.

So now I need to eat dinner and get tracing. Happy Friday night everyone.

Changing of the Guard

Over a month has passed since we said our goodbyes to this sweet girl .

* Jayne *   1998 - 2018

Sometimes things are just meant to be. Mid February a chance meeting led to these 2 handsome boys coming to live with us and after a short settling in period, all were getting on amicably.

 Earle

Claude

I like to think that Jayne knew they would take over the feline duties and it was time to join her sister 💕

Easter was spent with family and now while on school holidays and with the help of the Commonwealth Games on TV, I hope to get April tags for Ruth's Quilt stitched. Here are my March Tags finished on the 1st of April, no...no fooling.

How quickly I lose my mojo once the mainstream work/life balance is in full swing ... maybe my balance is off ... I will need to work on that.

In My Sewing Room

Great weather for ducks and sewing .... A change to weekend plans meant more sewing time Sunday and this was my result.

A Holly Cottage Christmas (Michelle Ridgway) is a finished top ... off to join my growing stash of 'to be quilted' ... love it!

Then time to touch on a UFO so  I made a few more 4 patches for my Calendar Quilt.

Earlier in the week I finished February stitches for Ruth's Quilt (Leanne Beasley) and traced off 3 tags ready for March goal.

Today is book work day and that other stuff known as housework ... maybe squeeze in a little stitching if I'm good.

FNWF Report

Thank you Cheryll for hosting once again in 2018 ... happy to report I was pleased with my efforts and enjoyed a lovely night in.  First off was some tracing to get me back on track with Ruth's Quilt ... stitcheries 10 to 15 for December and January.

November stitcheries 7, 8, 9 were finished off the night before.

While making a quick trip to my Brother's place yesterday, this friendly feathered friend stopped by to share my snack by the roadside. I was sitting in the car with the door open so it used the top of the door for a perch.

Home again and after some more gardening in the late evening, I put the finishes stitches in the January block for AHCC which I had started on Friday night.

With the temperatures rising this morning, this happy chapping was taking advantage of the solar panel for our landline radio telephone.

Now I'm off to see what else others were making on Friday night.

One More Tick

Another to-do ticked off for December ... this yummy block for A Holly Cottage Christmas.

Only 2 blocks to go. Now I'm stitching on Ruth's Quilt for November ... always seem to be playing catch-up 😊

Enjoying my down time so much.

FNSI After a Wet Week

Wow, what a deluge!  Here on the Queeensland coast our parched lands have been once again flooded...seems we just keep bouncing from floods to drought and back to floods. We received 8 inches of beautiful rain which has filled the dams and tanks as well as boosted the brown dry grasses back to a healthy looking green. Areas closer to the coast received over 20 inches.

Nothing like good rain to bring forth new growth.

Of course that much water has run the creeks and rivers and we're once again locked in by flooded roads ... good thing I have several projects on the go to keep me busy. In fact I have managed to finish my October list ...

So as it is FNSI time with Wendy and friends, I have dug out a ball of cotton and knitting needles ...

I'm in desperate need of a new dishcloth for myself.
Happy Friday

FNWF Results

The night always goes too quickly when spending time with friends.

Some more stitching tonight and I hope to finish these off tomorrow, then I can move on with October tasks. Thank you Cheryll and friends xx

FNSI and Some Catch Up

Continuing on with getting back into the swing of sewing, I'm joining in with Wendy and friends over HERE for FNSI.

DD is visiting and brought her knitting, I'll be stitching on my August block for A Holly Jolly Christmas. I finished the machine applique for both August and September last weekend.

Leave a draw open for a moment and someone is quick to move in.

August Calendar Bear is tucked away with her friends, if only I needed my umbrella more often.

So, what do you do when sewing time becomes harder to find and you're trying to play catch up on current projects and sew-a-longs? ... Join another group of course. I couldn't help myself and when my best friend had this book sitting on her shelf

I  started thinking of some black/white fat quarters I have been collecting and asked to join with the No Fuss Stitch-a-long HERE.

Not sure if its the best colourway to go with but I'm keen to have a play and see.

Off to mop the floors and see to tonights dinner so I can stitch guilt free.
