Last night at 3:00 am Paul and I heard a loud knocking sound that instantly woke us up. We both sat up in bed and listened to try and figure out where the sound came from. After searching the house (Paul with a bat in hand), we found nothing! So we tried to go back to sleep. But then we heard another noise. I was too tired to get up this time so Paul searched around by himself. Then we realized that the noise was coming from the bread maker. Oops! I had forgotten that I had put some bread on the delayed cooking mode so that it would be ready for breakfast. That darn, delicious bread stole an hour of sleep from us!
This is the third day in a row of baking bread in the bread maker. The kids love it. I make it with 50% whole wheat flour.
My Recipe
1 1/8 cups water
3 cups flour (1 1/2 white flour, 1 1/2 wheat flour)
2 Tbs. sugar
1/2 Tbs. salt
1 1/2 Tbs. powdered milk
1 Tbs. butter
1/2 Tbs. yeast
1 Tbs. gluten powder (I added this to the recipe)
I have this written on a recipe card and taped to the outside of my bread maker.

That happened once to us in Cincinnati!
That is hilarious! So glad that it was just the breadmaker!
About 10 years ago I went and lived at home with my parents for a few months to telework. Brett and I were the only ones there one weekend and we heard crazy sounds like a toilet, but both of us were in bedrooms on the top floor. We did the same thing - Boy Scout knives and a bat searching all over the house.
It ended up being the sump pump in the basement...thank goodness.
Always a good laugh...
do you layer the ingredients in your bread maker in the order you have them listed? also, do you know what size of loaf this makes? thanks! can't wait to try it!
