Final Call to Ohio



I anxiously await the election this Tuesday. 
"We have to be people that behave like people determined to be free." 
From the Blaze:  "With just four days until arguably the most important election in a generation, Glenn Beck andFreedomWorks CEO Matt Kibbe hosted a gathering of conservatives from across the country in the crucial swing state of Ohio on Friday. The event was aptly titled “The Revolution Rises,” a final call to action for grassroots fiscal conservatives to Get out the Vote (GOTV).
“Hello Ohio,” Beck said to cheers. “This is the group that is about to change the world…and you are going to do it on Tuesday.”
Opening his impassioned keynote speech, Beck read a letter that a fan wrote to him who had nearly hit rock bottom after losing custody of his son, his financial security and being forced to live in a tin storage unit. Beck got choked up as he read the words, but he plowed through the letter anyway. The man, as Americans tend to do, picked himself up from the depths of his misery and committed to living his life around the following motto: “The moment a man stops trying to do his best is the moment a man starts to do his very worst.”
Today, the listener who wrote to Beck is a different man. He rebuilt his career, restored his financial situation and even regained custody of his son. He was also in the crowd at the rally on Friday and got a shout out from Beck himself.
Beck went on to tell the crowd that America is at a crossroads, and the country will take one of two very different paths come Tuesday, Election Day.
“We have become a zero sum nation,” he explained. “One family goes up the ladder, another one has to come down.”
In other words, a “zero sum nation” is one where individuals think they can only do better if it is at someone else’s expense. But that’s not the way it has to be, he added.
“This Tuesday you’re going to send a message to the whole world. On Wednesday we’re going to wake up to a new America,” said Beck.
He went on: “Our choice on Tuesday is greatness, not mediocrity, but greatness. Not just holding on, but greatness. That is the choice: to be better than we ever have in our lifetime. It is an honor to be those people who strive to be so much more.”

Beck also made sure to discuss the ongoing scandal erupting out of Benghazi, Libya, where four Americans were killed in a fiery terrorist attack on Sept. 11.
Regarding Mercury Radio Arts’ charity Mercury One and Hurricane-ravaged New York City, Beck told a cheering audience that the organization had already raised over $1.2 million in funds for the city from good-hearted Americans. Even though NYC has treated him and his family terribly over the years, Beck said he was proud to take part in helping the city.
“America this is your moment! Ohio this is your moment! This is the moment you lead us out! This is the moment where you give us courage and lead the way so America gets off the mat and knocks the bullies out,” Beck proclaimed, concluding his fiery speech.

Remember Who We Are

It was just announced last night by Santorum that this song is his official campaign song.  It has a great message, listen carefully.  Rick Santorum said of his song choice, “Our campaign has focused on returning to a government that believes in the American people again, and few songs express the beauty and strength of who we are as free Americans better than Krista’s. ‘It’s our time,’ as the song says our time to take a firm, unwavering stand against big government; and it is our time to take our country back.” (Here is a link to the full article).
  
 I love Krista Branch.  I saw her perform in SLC almost two years ago, then I saw her at the Divine Destiny Event in DC.  She was getting off a little transportation van to enter the Kennedy Center, when I  said, "Hi, Krista".  She seemed a little surprised that someone recognized her.  I love what she stands for!

She also sings this song, which is a favorite of mine.

We Attended the Caucus

 Here is a picture of Paul with crazy Steve Cook, a good friend.  Steve livened up the night with his funny stories and singing!  I can't believe how many people we bumped into that we knew, especially Paul.  He has friends and acquaintances everywhere.
Have you ever heard the song of "I Lost My Red Rooster"?  We had a lot of fun watching Steve get into the song.  Man Steve, I miss you in Sunday School class - you can live up anything!
 The caucus was a huge event.  They said that at this county caucus there were 9,050 people in attendance.  It was a very long night.  We arrived at 6:30 pm to stand in a long line outside in the cold wind (fortunately we found some friends in line - which helped pass time) and stayed until 10pm.  It was long, and that is with only one round of voting.  I was hoping and praying that we wouldn't have to vote again, because it took hours for them to get everyone through and then count the votes!  We voted by dropping a penny (that was given to us) in a bucket of our nominee choice.  I also had my hand stamped on at entry, then written on for seat assignment, and then drawn on again as I excited the voting booth (with a big slash).  There are definitely areas for improvement.  It was fun being a part of history, but I totally prefer the primary process over this lengthy ordeal.

We made our way down to the main floor for the final announcement and so that we could quickly exit the venue for our car - which was a long walk away!

Attend a Caucus and Have a Voice

MARCH 6TH, 2012
 I'm passing on a lot of vital information - this will be a LONG POST.  Please take the time to read through thisHere is a link to the Idaho Caucus website.  It is there that you can find the information for your county's caucus, learn about the caucus rules, and even watch some youtube videos of a mock caucus.  I just called my county's election office (Ada Co. 287-6860) to find out that I was not affiliated with any party - because this is a new thing as of last July.  So she directed me to this website, www.idahovotes.gov where you click on link "Voter Information & Registration".  Then you click on "Political Party Affiliation" (in the middle of the screen) and you can print the form to claim your party and then fax it back to them at 287-6939 (if your home address has not changed since the last time you voted).   You can do this the night of the caucus, but I wanted to avoid any extra time waiting in line.

This is very important! 
 
In fact, our church leaders have also encouraged us to attend the caucus of our choice and participate.  This is a letter written to the Utah Saints (I have heard that there is a letter being read in sacrament meeting from the First Presidency- I haven't heard it yet in my ward).

Salt Lake City —  The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) has issued a letter to be read in all Utah congregations, which encourages Latter-day Saints to attend their local precinct caucus meetings:
On Tuesday, March 13, and Thursday, March 15, 2012, political parties in Utah will hold precinct caucus meetings. Precinct caucuses are the most fundamental grassroots level of political involvement. They are best served by a broad representation of Utah citizens. Those who attend play a critical role in selecting candidates for public office.
We are concerned with the decreasing attendance at these caucus meetings in Utah in recent years. We therefore ask that local leaders not schedule meetings on these Tuesday and Thursday evenings so that members may attend a caucus meeting of their choice. The locations of these meetings can be found on the websites of the respective political parties.
Principles compatible with the gospel may be found in the platforms of the various political parties. We encourage members to attend their precinct caucus meetings
The First Presidency has made the same appeal in the past of encouraging members of the Church to participate, with other good citizens, in the political process as part of their individual civic duty, while the Church itself remains politically neutral.

It’s new this year that Idahoans register by political party OR claim “unaffiliated” with a party. 
The Republican Presidential candidate is NOT decided yet!  We vote on March 6 in a caucus format, but you have to be registered as a Republican to participate.

If you have not registered yet you can do so at the door, when you come to the Republican Presidential caucus at Taco Bell Arena On March 6th. It will be extremely important to get the word out about Idaho’s first caucus on Super Tuesday, March 6, 2012. I have attached some information on Ada County’s caucus.

IDAHO’S NEW REPUBLICAN PRIMARY
AND REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CAUCUS SYSTEM
Under Idaho’s open primary system, any voter participating in an Idaho primary election could vote on any party’s primary ballot. Democrats could vote the Republican primary ballot and Republicans could vote the Democrat ballot. Since all primary elections were “open” in this manner, voter registration with the county clerk’s office did not include a declaration or designation of party affiliation. Many Idaho citizens believe that because they are registered to vote, consider themselvesRepublicans, vote the Republican ballot in the primary election, etc., that they are “registered Republicans.”
But unless you have registered to vote since July 1, 2011 (the day the new Idaho Primary Election law went into effect) you are not a registered Republican. 

As of July 1, a voter must be registered as a Republican in order to vote the Republican Ballot in the Idaho Primary Election. To do this, a person must fill out the new Idaho voter registration form and check “Republican” in the box now provided to declare political party affiliation. If you want to vote for Republican Primary candidates, please fill out the registration form (http://www.adaweb.net/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=Z6OgjetFeDI%3d&tabid=169), with all of the appropriate information filled in, sign and date it, and bring it with you to the caucus!  (I talked with them today and they said I could fax it like I mentioned above).
Note: We will have registration form at the door on Caucus night—March 6th
 
2012 Republican Presidential Caucus
To give Idaho Republicans greater influence in the Republican Presidential candidate nominating process, the Idaho Republican State Central Committee established the Idaho Republican Presidential Nomination Caucus. On Tuesday, March 6, 2012, each of Idaho’s 44 County Republican Parties will sponsor a county Republican Presidential Nomination Caucus.

The Ada County Republican Presidential Caucus will be held at the Taco Bell Arena on the BSU campus. Participants in this Idaho Republican Presidential Nomination Caucus will determine which presidential candidate the Idaho delegates to the Republican National Convention will be committed to casting their ballots for.

Only Registered Republicans will be able to participate in the Idaho Republican Presidential
Nomination Caucus on March 6, 2012, as well as the regular May 2012 Primary Election (for all but Presidential candidates).

The Kids Experience a Rally

 Last week Mitt Romney came to our town for a rally.  After experiencing the Santorum Rally, I really wanted my children to have the opportunity to get involved and learn more about our Presidential Race to the White House.  Here is a picture of Corbin shaking hands with Mitt.

Thanks to an old friend, Jeff Allen, we were able to get a family picture at the rally.  The rally was a little long (because he was late in arriving) and we were on our feet the whole time so the kids were tired by the end.  But I think it was a good experience for everyone.  Afterwards, the kids were treated to a special treat, ice-cream!

Hot Valentines Date: Let's Attend A Presidential Rally

 Last night I convinced Paul to attend a Rick Santorum rally with me.  I am grateful for the opportunity to hear him speak, to shake his hand, and have a good look at him - eye to eye.  I don't have any great pictures, Paul said he tried his hardest - oh, well.  I am very concerned about our country.  We need new leadership that will stand for America, stand with God, and stand with the people and I think that Rick Santorum is the man for the job.

Here is a list of the 2012 Presidential debates with their video links.  During the Q & A section, Rick Santorum encouraged us to go back and watch the debate called the Thanksgiving Family Forum (He said here the candidates were each given 18 minutes that they could use however they wanted during the forum, but once their time was up, then they wouldn't be called on to answer anymore.  This forces the candidates to carefully pick and talk about the issues of most importance to them).

The End of Bin Laden

I thought this was an interesting photo of the national security team meeting in the White House Situation Room.  They are watching the plan unfold before their eyes.  Fortunately the plan worked brilliantly and Bin Laden was found and released to his next life.

This is good and bad news.  Good that a bad man was finally brought to some justice (I still don't think that it makes up for all the lives he had taken) but bad that we will most likely see the taliban fight back to show their power.  This morning all the news networks were reporting this news non-stop.  Crowds were gathered at ground zero, in DC and many other places celebrating the news and chanting "USA".  It was a strange thing for me to watch because I don't think I would be cheering and chanting.  This is not the end to terrorism.  I know their man guy was taken out, but there are many more taliban leaders that will carry out their evil plans.

The Forgotten Man

Thank you Angie for sharing this video with me.  I realized that Jon McNaughton was the artist that painted, "One Nation Under God".  It seems like many people that normally are quiet and keep to themselves are realizing that it is time to make a stand.  I realized that in the past two years, I have also become one of those people.  I am finding my voice.

Endowed by Their Creator

Two days before the country was set to celebrate Constitution Day, President Obama decided to invoke the words of another founding document: the Declaration of Independence. Except he changed the words.

Towards the end of a speech on September 15 to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, Obama began quoting the famous “rights” line from the founding document. But partway through, he omitted where those rights come from: a Creator.

The line is supposed to read: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

But Obama’s recitation left out an important part: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are crated equal. [Long Pause] Endowed with certain inalienable [sic] rights: life and liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

As the American Thinker points out, it could well be that Obama intentionally ignored his teleprompter:

After President Obama says “created equal..”, there is a long pause during which he scowls and blinks several times. For once, he may actually have opted to not read something that was on the teleprompter. It looks like he is disgusted and decided it would be better not to read what the [Declaration] actually says.

So, did he just forget the words, maybe couldn’t see the lines, or did he leave them out intentionally? You decide:





From Tiff: President Obama said "what makes us all Americans...was faith and fidelity to the shared values that we all hold so dear." Yes, and those values that we hold so dear are endowed by our Creator. Isn't is so easy to determine who a person is by their fruit, or their works?

Collective vs. Individual Salvation

I just recently was made aware of this whole idea of collective salvation. The idea was a very new concept to me, it is taking me a while to get my thoughts out. Sorry about the teaser title - it accidentally posted before I had even written my comments!

I heard a couple statements from our current President, Barak Obama that jumped out to me. Here they are with references:

1st Statement:
EOB: All of that, thirty years after Dr. King and the civil rights movement. This seems almost
incredible to me, at times, to think that in thirty years, this is all the progress we’ve been able to make?
Obama: Well, you know, it is frustrating, I think. I talk a lot in the book about my attempts to renew the dream that both of my parents had. I worked as a community organizer in Chicago, [and] was very active in low-income neighborhoods working on issues of crime and education and employment, and seeing that in some ways certain portions of the African-American community are doing as bad, if not worse, and recognizing that my fate remained tied up with their fates. That my individual salvation is not going to come about without a collective salvation for the country. Unfortunately, I think that recognition requires that we make sacrifices, and this country has not always been willing to make the sacrifices necessary to bring about a new day and a new age. 2nd Statement:
"Each of you will have the chance to make your own discovery in the years to come. And I say “chance” because you won’t have to take it. There’s no community service requirement in the real world; no one forcing you to care. You can take your diploma, walk off this stage, and chase only after the big house and the nice suits and all the other things that our money culture says you should by. You can choose to narrow your concerns and live your life in a way that tries to keep your story separate from America’s.But I hope you don’t. Not because you have an obligation to those who are less fortunate, though you do have that obligation. Not because you have a debt to all those who helped you get here, though you do have that debt.It’s because you have an obligation to yourself. Because our individual salvation depends on collective salvation. Because thinking only about yourself, fulfilling your immediate wants and needs, betrays a poverty of ambition. Because it’s only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential and discover the role you’ll play in writing the next great chapter in America’s story." Candidate Obama said this in a 2008 commencement address to Wesleyan University.

Back to my thoughts:
It really bothered me to hear the concept taught that we are not saved individually but collectively. Oh, that is so untrue and wrong, it goes against all church doctrine. This all goes back to the war in heaven where we were presented with God's plan. Christ volunteered to carry out the plan and give the glory to God, which allowed for us individually to make our own choices - thus moral agency. However, Satan's plan was for us to all return to heaven and the Glory would be his not God's. How could we all return to heaven? There would obviously be no choice or accountability (I know this is a lot in a nutshell).

We have been taught the principal of individual salvation by many church leaders, although that terminology isn't usually how it is referenced. I hope you take the time to read the quotes below.

Quote 1:
"The development of faith in the Lord is an individual matter. Repentance is also an individual matter. Only as an individual can one be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost. Each of us is born individually; likewise, each of us is “born again” individually. Salvation is an individual matter." (Russell M. Nelson, “Salvation and Exaltation,” Liahona, May 2008, 7–10)

Quote 2:
"Why cannot salvation be entirely an individual matter? It is individual, in one sense, but salvation in its fullest sense involves other people [as families we are here to help each other]. Families, for example, are the essential units of exaltation; and it is only through the covenants received in the temple that the family acquires an eternal nature. Moreover, we receive strength and support and are given opportunities to grow by associating with others who have made the same covenants we have. (Robert J. Matthews, “Our Covenants with the Lord,” Ensign, Dec 1980, 33–34)

Quote 3:
"We have been sent here to work out our individual salvation through the tests and challenges of daily life. We cannot do that by relying heavily upon the borrowed light of someone else’s testimony. As we receive inspiration when we hear prophets, leaders, and peers bear their testimonies, those spiritual feelings should further enhance our desire to strengthen our own convictions." (Donald L. Staheli, “Securing Our Testimonies,” Liahona, Nov 2004, 37–39)

Quote 4:
"While our individual salvation is based on our individual obedience, it is equally important that we understand that we are each an important and integral part of a family and the highest blessings can be received only within an eternal family." (Robert D. Hales, “The Eternal Family,” Ensign, Nov 1996, 64)

This next excerpt comes from a great talk that explains what salvation and exaltation means - one is given to all men through Christ's sacrifice and the other is a gift available to us dependent on our obedience to His laws and the covenants we have made with Him.

Quote 5:

"What does it mean when people say, “I am saved”? Generally it means they are saved from death. This type of general salvation comes to all people by the grace of God alone. General salvation comes regardless of obedience to gospel principles or laws and results solely in resurrection from the dead. In this respect, salvation is synonymous with immortality, in that the resurrected person will live forever. Resurrection comes to every person born into this world through the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ, whether one confesses Christ or not. Whether a person is wicked or righteous, each person will receive the gift of immortality through Jesus Christ....

All mankind will thus receive general salvation...The true value of the sacrifice of Christ means much more than this general salvation which comes to all mankind. There is an additional salvation that God has planned for his children. This additional salvation is an individual salvation and is conditioned not only upon grace, but also upon obedience to gospel law." (Theodore M. Invictus

I watched this movie Saturday. I was greatly moved by this movie and had tears in my eyes the whole way through it. I feel in some ways that our country is at a similar place (of course without the violence that they experienced) and that we are looking for that same unity and strength that can pull us together. It seems like Satan is doing everything in his power to pull apart families, to discredit the role of mothers and fathers, and to help us forget who we are and why we are here.


Fact tidbits:

  • Strategists in the National Party invented apartheid as a means to cement their control over the economic and social system.

Congressman Assaults College Kid



Congressman Bob Etheridge was coming from a fundraiser headlined by Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. When he was asked a simple question on the street by two college guys, that Etheridge didn't handle very well. I can't believe his behavior - talk about a bully. This guy should be charged with assault.

Sarah Palin Visits

I took this photo directly from our local newspaper photo gallery. Sarah made a visit to our town to endorse a Republican candidate running for Congress. I am not voting for her endorsement, but the other Republican who I believe is a better person for the job.

Take a look at this photo and notice my friend, Suszette, in front of Sarah in the white t-shirt. Suszette and I are friends and were visiting teaching partners in one of my past wards. We both had an Alaskan connection and lived there during the same years. I believe Suszette lived their most if not all of her childhood, I'm not sure. Suszette was able to speak with Sarah, get an autograph and pictures with her. What a cool experience! I was wanting to attend this event, but I was at the doctor's office with Vivian. Way to go Suszette!

April's ffff - A Campaign Begins Today

April, I love that you posted this ffff "Fight for Freedom Friday" post even if it was Monday! I love the words of Mitt Romney :

"America has just witnessed an unconscionable abuse of power. President Obama has betrayed his oath to the nation — rather than bringing us together, ushering in a new kind of politics, and rising above raw partisanship, he has succumbed to the lowest denominator of incumbent power: justifying the means by extolling the ends. He promised better; we deserved better.

He calls his accomplishment “historic” — in this he is correct, although not for the reason he intends. Rather, it is an historic usurpation of the legislative process — he unleashed the nuclear option, enlisted not a single Republican vote in either chamber, bribed reluctant members of his own party, paid-off his union backers, scapegoated insurers, and justified his act with patently fraudulent accounting. What Barack Obama has ushered into the American political landscape is not good for our country; in the words of an ancient maxim, “what starts twisted, ends twisted.”

His health-care bill is unhealthy for America. It raises taxes, slashes the more private side of Medicare, installs price controls, and puts a new federal bureaucracy in charge of health care. It will create a new entitlement even as the ones we already have are bankrupt. For these reasons and more, the act should be repealed. That campaign begins today."
