are blooming.
My new header photo, complements of my son.
That's a link to his photo blog. His other blog is here. He's just starting out, so take a look and follow him, if you like it. His blog is... different. There's a little black pop-out, on the upper right where you can click follow.

Monday musings -- could be disturbing to some
Found in the garden.
A 1919 Lincoln wheat penny. Sorry for the quality of the pictures. It was completely blue when I found it outdoors, and I only cleaned it up enough to figure out what it was. The garden is where the old chicken coop used to be.
Middle boy is cleaning out the outbuilding. He wants to fix it up for a shop or something. Most of the hay that was in there (don't know why it was there) had to be tossed because of too much broken glass and other stuff. But some we were able to put out in the garden. I was raking it out, and found this in it.
Hubby of course was curious and started an internet search. He decided it most resembles the skull of a Collared Peccary.
Strange thing to find, as we have never seen them around here, to my knowledge.
It got up to almost 80 today!
Have a blessed week all. ♥

Spring migration
From my kitchen window.
And from the kitchen door.
May rain for the next two days. So far we have been lucky. Most of it has missed us.
Hope you are all doing well!

What a difference a day makes.
81 with rainbows yesterday.
Woke to this, this morning.
The start of snow with freezing rain. High today was 36. What a difference a day makes.
By 3PM, the sun had actually come out for a bit and snow was falling off the roof.
Mid 20s tonight and maybe tomorrow night. The few plants we have are covered, we'll see if they survive.
Have a blessed Friday. ♥

Double rainbow today.
They faded in and out over several minutes.
80 degrees today!
Supposed to be 30 when we get up. Chance of freezing rain tonight. Very small; but they've already closed schools. Crazy. Nothing happened last time.
We'll see.
Mid to upper 20s Thursday night and Friday night.
Winter is back?
Be safe and God bless. ♥

So is rain a lamb or a lion?
Went to the flea market in Baton Rouge yesterday. Got a late start. There was lots of road work to get around.
Went to Bass Pro Shop. Bought one of those jerky shooters that uses hamburger. Now I get to learn how to make it with ground meat. Been making our own jerky since roughly 1975 when I found a recipe in the Wednesday Sacramento Bee for making jerky. We'd always enjoyed the 'shoe leather' that passed for jerky, so we thought we'd try it. We bought a Rival meat slicer (still the best one we ever had. New ones are too bacteria prone), bought the flank steak (it was way cheap back then), and followed the recipe exactly. Hated that first batch, haha.
Since then, I only use three things. Soy sauce, liquid smoke (has to be Wright's), and garlic powder.
But hubby has a denture plate now, so he can't enjoy it like he used to. Bought a little hand tenderizer the other day. That actually worked okay. When I use that I have to learn how to adjust the marinating time. And the drying time.
Now I get to learn that for the hamburger jerky.
Should be interesting.
Have figured out that youngest boy has a wheat allergy. So now I make his jerky with a wheat free soy sauce. Who knew soy sauce had wheat? I do now. Among so many other things. Even claims of wheat/gluten free aren't necessarily true.
But enough of that for now.
On the way back hubby saw something in a tree. What he thought he saw, I won't say, but I didn't think it possible, so we went back to look.
We saw a couple of these in trees (lots of bayous, and deep water ditches between Baton Rouge and home).
It's the juvenile version of the Anhingha, or snake bird. :-)
And back to the title of my post. For those of you, where it is freaking cold and snow covered, here is how March came in for us here in Central Louisiana.
Here's to spring!
Have a blessed week all. ♥
P.S. I tried to fix the video sound, but it doesn't want to be fixed. Annoying. If you have me on Google +, you can here the sound. If not, this link should take you to my you tube account where you can hear the sound of the rain on the tin roof. :-)
If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll try again!
