About Me

My photo
Retired, housewife, mother of three. Picking up the pieces after God decided the 145 year old farmhouse was no longer the house for us. Praise God for His mercy and love!

Just a few pictures from our last trip to the farm

There are a lot of these bushes popped up all around the yard.

No idea what they are.

I also saw green berries out by the gate.

And black berries out there, too.

Yes, that is as far as my knowledge goes. I know they are not normal berries. Just food for animals and birds, I expect.

That bush by the gate oak that I cut down last year, has come back quite thickly.

And best of all, green pecans. :-)

In November, we're making a quick trip to take the cargo trailer back down and hopefully widen the driveway just a bit before we take the trailer back down.
I'm hoping we'll find a few pecans ready to bring back home. :-)

Hope you all have a Blessed week. ♥
P.S. If you want to see any of these pictures bigger, go to my blogger link in my list of photo albums.

Now this is what I've been saying for a while.

I feel this is why so many Americans are overweight and have health problems:
11 year old finds antibiotics in 15% of store-bought meat.

Now, if an 11 year old can figure this out, why can't the government?
Oh wait. That's right. The meat industry has a big union. No way the government can find fault with them.

I am not advocating stopping eating meat. Those who prefer not to, more power to you. But I love a good steak. Just makes me want to get to the retirement property earlier so I can have better control over what goes into my food.

Our Little Meadow: A Drug Problem

Our Little Meadow: A Drug Problem: Yes, I had a drug problem as a youth.  How about you? (click on the picture to enlarge if your eyes are like mine)

Yes, you may see double because I stole this from Mike. :)

Anybody have any idea

what bug this is?

Those are Okra leaves. It reminded me of a tick, but I don't think it is.
Sorry about the size of the picture. Either I've forgotten everything, or blogger is a brat. Or both, haha!
If you want to see it bigger, look here.

Also, anyone know if banana pepper seeds can be eaten? I know okra seeds can be eaten. But they always tell you to take the seeds out when you clean peppers, so I was just wondering. Little banana peppers are a pain to clean is all...

Almost Friday! :-)

Red sky at morning, sailor take warning.

This was the sky from my back porch yesterday morning, looking roughly northwest.

It really was an awesome sight.
But a little over an hour later, no more billowy clouds, just a lot of gray. This one is from the front porch, looking East.

The next two are from the back porch again. No more bright light.

And sure enough, by another 30 minutes, we had rain. We had thunderstorms on and off and a lot of rain last night, too. Now Lee has sadly gone Northeast to places like New York which don't need any more rain.

Irene had blown all the flowers off my crepe myrtle, but as you can see, it is blooming again. :)

I pray all my friends in Texas, get some rain soon. And I pray those in the Northeast see an end to the rain.
A Blessed Thursday to you all. ♥

I like it when

hubby tells me "I can't think of any way you could have made dinner any better." :-D
I am not a cook. My mom didn't really cook. My dad did a lot of cooking. But he liked everything Very Well Done. So I do too, haha. It has taken me years of practice to not burn everything. And often times I still do. Hubby can throw stuff together and it often turns out quite excellent. I throw stuff together and it's often a disaster. ;-)
So, I was quite happy last night. :-)
Thanks for all the comments on my last post. Glad to know I'm not alone sometimes. ♥

Why is it that whenever you find something you like,

they stop making it?
I may have mentioned before, but I don't sweat. Sorry for the TMI, but I don't. Not easily. I get clammy, damp skin, but I don't sweat like most people do.
I do not like the heavy weight cotton shirts that everyone insists on making now. They make me hot. So, I am starting to run out of t-shirts because Fruit of the Loom stopped making their 50-50 Golden Blend t-shirts. :(
50% cotton and 50% polyester, they were wonderful shirts.

Today I saw a piece of the World Trade Center. It was a joint piece. I don't have a picture because I didn't have my camera with me.
I'm a little ashamed to say I was going out of my way to try not to see it. In a family with 3 cars and 4 drivers, I try to get all my stuff done first thing before the working driver of the car I use leaves the house.
SO, I had arranged my route in an attempt to not be on the same road they were moving the monument on.
But it didn't work.
My last stop happened to be on the road they decided to use. So I saw the police cars with their flashing lights. The motorcycle with their flags, and the fire truck, and I saw the flat bed with the piece of the Trade Center, and I cried.
They're escorting it to a park in New Bern that we drive by often, so I'll be able to see it when they get it placed; and I'm sure I'll see it on TV today, too. I think they are having the official unveiling on September 11th.

Blessed Tuesday to you all. ♥

P.S. Hope my blog friends in Texas and Georgia are well. ♥

Went fishing today

Wanted to check out our fishing spot on base to see if it survived the storm. And it did. Sorry for the quality of the pictures. Took them with my phone. Maybe at the end of the pier you can see the bittern that decided to join us for a little bit.
We didn't catch any keepers, but this year's hatch is getting bigger. Maybe by November there'll be some keepers. As we were leaving, I took a picture showing where the waterline was during or just after the storm.
That brown line shows where it was. The pier, and the steps leading to it, were completely under water. I told the hubby I'm glad I didn't see that, or I might not have felt comfortable fishing on the pier today, haha. Happy Sunday to you all! :-)
