Smile - A Layout Using Mad Tea Party by Kim Price

Today I have another layout to share using the gorgeous Mad Tea Party collection - this time with an inky misted background using Dylusions ink spray.

As anyone who knows my style would know I love nothing better than to create something arty and, as luck would have it, this style of scrapping looks fantastic teamed with this collection.

I've chosen Calypso Teal, sprayed it onto my thick cardstock background and tilted it all to let that gorgeous color run and form patterns. After my cardstock was completely dry I then created a banner from the coordinating patterned papers, overlapping them up for a fun look.

Next I began to build up my layers surrounding my photographs. I've used cut outs from the ephemera papers behind my photographs for some added dimension as well as some fussy cut rose elements. I then stamped the large doily image from Tea Party Acrylic Stamp Set onto white cardstock - once in rose red and once in turquoise - fussy cutting the images out and tucking them between my layers either side of my photographs.

Here is a closer look at the rose coloured doily stamp along with a checkerboard embellishment I created using a 1 inch round Shape Studio tool from Epiphany Crafts. This is such a great way to use up some of those small leftover pieces and looks fantastic.

Sweet - A Layout Using Mad Tea Party by Kim Price

I just cannot get enough of the Mad Tea Party collection. I love everything about it from the colours, the patterned papers and the gorgeous matching elements. Today I want to share another project I've created with this line featuring a too sweet photograph of my little friend who follows me everywhere at home - my gorgeous silver Burmese, Anika. I just adore this photograph taken of her when she was just a wee babe and it looks wonderful tucked in amongst the gorgeous pinks and aqua tones of Mad Tea Party.

I've used similar techniques to my previous post A Steampunk Style Christmas Layout, creating a distressed layered border using various papers from Mad Tea Party, tucking in my photographs, a few elements from the patterned papers, flowers and some antiqued lace.

I'm just loving the gorgeous vintage style red armchair image - so I've added that tucked in behind a few flowers. Anika loves nothing better than curling up into a ball on a soft comfy chair so this is the perfect touch!

On this section of layout I've used some clock face images to create a layered effect and the finishing touch are those two sweet little butterflies hovering above.

A Steampunk Style Christmas Layout Using Nirvana by Kim Price

Hi again. Today I wanted to share with you a layout I created using the stunning Nirvana collection. I love all the little bits in these papers - and especially the adorable vintage style bowler and top hats and I've decided this year Santa needed a change of head wear. I'm thinking he is looking pretty dapper too!

This is one of my favourite Christmas photographs taken of the girls when they were young. Turning it into a subtle sepia toned print made it perfect for the steampunk style layout I had in mind and I've built the whole layout around this top hat wearing Santa Claus.

My background was created using a heavy white cardstock and watered down acrylic paint, adding more water to the cardstock for that drippy paint splatter look. After the paint had completely dried I then inked the edges and began to build the layers of my steampunked banner. Not one for measuring or cutting a straight line I just chose some of my favourite prints from Nirvana and cut strips of paper - layering them up with foam dots and punching some of the layers for an even more funky distressed look. I've also hand dyed some cotton lace with Distress Stain and tucked that in between a couple of the layers. Once I was happy with my banner layers I added the vintage rule embellishment along with a brad and the ticket stubs from Documented patterned paper. I trimmed two of the vintage typewriter numbers to form my title for my page - 25 - and added one of the gorgeous clockface images from the reverse side of Family Record patterned paper.

I'm really loving how this layout turned out and I've also grown to love the Nirvana collection even more! Here is a closer look at those yummy layers.

And these are the papers I've used in this layout:

Thanks so much for calling in again today. Why not try your hand at a steampunk themed project using the Nirvana kit yourself! And you can find more of my creations on my scrapbooking blog here.

Mad Tea Party Curious Stamp Set by Kim Price

Hi guys! Today I want to share a card I created using the gorgeous rose image from the Mad Tea Party Curious Stamp Set. I just LOVE this image and it's so much fun to color! I've used Copic markers in my sample, but this rose looks fantastic colored using all kinds of mediums - watercolors, water markers, Gelatos, acrylic paint, Distress Inks - any of these would work equally as well.

I started out by stamping four of the rose images onto Copic compatible cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento Dye Ink. I've used the dye ink for my stamped images as it is compatible with my Copic Markers, meaning it won't run and reactivate causing a mess with the markers. Next I chose my colors, coordinating these with the colors used in Mad Tea Party by picking a few of my favourite patterned papers then matching my copic colors from there. This ensures you get the perfect palette to work with!

Now the fun part begins! I colored all my rose images using lighter shades on the outer edges of my rose petals and blending the darker shades towards the centers of each petal. Each petal was blended separately to ensure a smooth blend, using the lighter shades on the outside petals and darker shades towards the center. The flower center was colored using yellow/amber shades then I've adhered clear microbeads for some added texture. I also blended the leaves in green shades.

After all the shading was complete I fussy cut around each flower starting with my base as the largest piece, the top petals were trimmed from the center piece and the third layer is just the front few petals. For the fourth layer I have just used the center bud of the flower along with the petal right at the very front of the flower. Each of these layers has been pieced together using dimensional dots for a realistic 3-D effect. The end result is simply stunning - an amazing handcrafted dimensional rose to add to a special project. I have placed mine on a card but this would look equally as stunning on any papercraft project you had in mind.

You - Mad Tea Party by Kim Price

Hello all! I'm so happy to be dropping by today to share my first layout using the brand new Mad Tea Party collection by Marion Smith Designs. This collection is nothing short of stunning - the colours and style just make me happy to be creating with it.

This page started out as a plain 12"x12" chipboard sheet which I roughly painted with gesso to seal and create a base with which to add my color. I then painted a layer of Distress Paint in Victorian Velvet which coordinates so well with the Mad Tea Party collection, spreading the color with a large paintbrush not quite to the edges for a shabby worn look. After this had dried I spread a little texture paste to the middle of the layout to break up that large color block and then began to add my paper layers.

Here is a closer look at some of the detail. Don't you just love those adorale fussy cut mushrooms! I've taken them from the Wonderland and Cut & Create Ephemera patterned papers.

These are the MSD product images used in this layout:

Love You - Kim Price

Today I would like to share a layout I created using some of the gorgeous printables available from Marion Smith Designs. I just adore the mini file folders and these were my starting point for this page. There are so many ways to use these - everything from mini albums to cards, mixed media projects to ATC's and of course scrapbooking layouts like the one I have created above.

My page started out as a simple 12x12 chipboard sheet which I painted with gesso adding some subtle color using a combination of Distress Paints and inks. I've then added texture with stamps and stencils allowing the whole thing to dry completely before adding lots of gorgeous layers from the Scarlet collection along with other MSD printable elements - there are just so many amazing designs and they all work together beautifully! A title and some coordinating flowers are the perfect finishing touches.

Thanks for dropping by today, hope you find some inspiration.

Reasons To Smile - Nirvana Collection by Kim Price

Hi everyone. Today I have a layout to share on the blog using papers and elements from the brand new Nirvana collection which is about to hit the stores any day now. This is such a fabulous combination of steampunk versus vintage with with just the right amount of feminine touch thrown in for good measure.

I've started my layout with the floral side of Nirvana Bliss patterned paper, adding layers using elements from Typograph and Family Record patterned papers. I just adore the top hat from the Documented paper so I have added that to my photograph for a bit of fun along with the sweet little butterfly from Family Record. Across the bottom of the layout I've created a banner using tickets and other ephemera elements found on both Documented and Family Record patterned papers.

This was a quick and easy layout to assemble and can be completed in well under an hour.

Thank you for dropping by today, I hope you are inspired to create your own Nirvana collection page.

Creating A Faux Antique Wallpaper Cover On A Mini Album by Kim Price

Hi guys. Today I wanted to call in and share with you a few tips on how to recreate a cool antique wallpaper texture for a mini book or album cover on your own project.

Firstly you will want to gather some supplies together which I have pictured and listed below. Please remember that you can improvise with the things you already have at home if you do not have the exact same product I am using and I will make a few suggestions so you get the idea.

Supplies:

- smooth white cardstock
- a Cuttlebug Jamara embossing folder or similar product such as Sizzix Texture Fades in a design of your choice
- a Cuttlebug or similar machine capable of embossing ie. Big Shot
- Impasto Medium or texture paste, any brand is fine
- palette knife or plastic knife
- Prima Distress Tool or nail file, emery board, sandpaper
- old paintbrush - I like to use a flat strong bristled brush for this kind of thing, the older the better
- clear gel adhesive or similar ie. Helmar 450 is perfectly fine
- matte acrylic paint in your choice of color plus an antique brown shade
- heavy chipboard book covers either pre-purchased or cut your own from larger chipboard sheets. Mine measure approximately 6x6 inches

Run your white cardstock through your embossing machine using a pattern of your choice making sure one of the edges of the cardstock lines up with one of the edges of your folder as shown.

Flip the embossed cardstock to the reverse side and using your palette knife, gently scrape an even amount of impasto into the recesses of the design. This will help the embossed texture to keep its shape over time and not flatten out with wear and tear. Allow to dry thoroughly.

Apply an even coat of liquid adhesive to your chipboard base - you don't need loads of adhesive, just enough to ensure a good bond , then carefully adhere your embossed cardstock to the chipboard ensuring the edges line up. Smooth the surface gently with your fingers to remove any trapped air.

Trim any excess cardstock from around the edges of your chipboard base, then gently distress the edges with your distress tool.

You can now paint a coat of your favourite color matte paint over the cardstock, allow this to dry and then roughly brush the edges of your book cover with beige colored paint for an instant antique look.

I have used Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber in Pool to color my album, but this would look equally as  beautiful done in a nice shade of pink or peach, sage green, lemon, antique white. Even black would look amazing!

Thank you for calling in today, I hope you find some inspiration and create your own book covers using this embossing technique.
