repetition

Oh my, it's been a while! The current OLW challenge is to use one shape multiple times on a card, so I pulled out my candle stamp and got to work.

This is something I've been meaning to do for a while, so I was glad for the little extra push! The candle stamp I carved myself from an eraser. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up! The ink colors are Razzberry, Citrine and Mango Tango. And Canary. Oh, and black.

dazzle

This week's One Layer Wednesday caught my eye, especially after seeing several posts come through my blogroll about using glue dots for glittering up your cards!

So I pulled out my trusty snowflake stamp, tiny glue dots and white glitter and got to work!

I hope you can see all the glitter on this card: I also added some rock candy Stickles to the teeny parts of the snowflake for extra bling.

masked

This week's challenge for OLW is to use the masking technique. No problem! Not sure what I'll use this card for, but it exists, nonetheless...

The background of the 'd' is stamped with green, then I put a cardboard letter on top, sprayed with glitter spray and let it dry. Then I outlined the 'd' with gold pen to make it pop a little more. Fun!

gratitude

I really love the idea of the Gratitude Campaign, and it's what this week's OLW theme is! In fact, last year, I gave a thank you card with every order placed with Stamp n' Stitch during the month of November, specifically to use for Thanksgiving. I think I'll do that again this year, too.

Besides that, thank you cards are always handy:

I love coloring with chalks. I do need to remember to check wetness of the waterpen, though, before using it...

I wanted to keep the front clean, so the sentiment is inside.

advance

Hm. I seem to play catchup a lot with these dares...

Here's one from DCM that I really wanted to have done in time: Get Knotted. But the mojo was slow... it took its sweet time to let me complete this gift tag... Anyway, I hope you get the reference (as to how it ties (pun intended!) to the topic).

There were several OLW challenges that I wanted to complete, too, but just felt a bit overwhelmed with other stuff to get done first. The one I really wanted to get finished was number 100

And finally, I posted this on Facebook, hoping to get some suggestions, but I think it may have gotten buried in everyone's feed. I was inspired by this post to carve a new stamp! The problem is, I don't know what cute saying to add at the bottom, so I need your help. Any thoughts? Note that lime is just the example popsicle:

One thought I had was to do those terrible jokes that come with Popsicles...

bling

It's been ages since I've done challenges, but this one seemed easy: add a little sparkle to a birthday card. I also saw a really neat technique that I wanted to try: putting ink on your acrylic block. I used Distress Inks and it looks kinda cool.

So, without further ado, here's my One Layer Wednesday contribution:

belated

I, um, didn't make these in time for the actual challenges, but still wanted to share! I'm realizing why I never make resolutions... goodness.

First up is the Daring Cardmakers, who are already on the third set of colors... you'd think I would have easily jumped onto February's (reds), but completely missed that one. The latest is a lovely set of yellows with blue:

The next is the One Layer Wednesday featuring birds (yes, birds!). This one got made shortly after the challenge was listed, but I just never got it photoed or blogged...

And then, this is a challenge all on my own: change the 'hello' circle card to be more masculine:

2.10.2012

circular

This week's OLW is all about circles. I had several ideas bouncing around, but ended up settling on this:

Kinda makes me think of Cookie Monster, mice and Girl Scouts.

1.25.2012

crisp

Our winter has been weird this year. It didn't snow until January, and even then, the accumulation only lasted about a day per snowfall (which, I think, has been 3). I happen to like snow, thus it has been a disappointing winter so far.

Usually we have the following: white, gray and an occasional cardinal.

This year it's a lot of brown...

So I'm glad to have a One Layer Wednesday challenge that has us capture the typical winter colors (which includes the pop, like a cardinal).

This is not my favorite card, but I think it captures that cold feeling you get when walking in the woods after it snows. (I'm still thinking of add some white paint as snow.)

10.29.2011

sugarplum

As I promised, more holiday-like cards are going to be popping into the shop (and thus, the blog), and here's another one!

It also is perfect for the OWL challenge: red and white/cream! Yay!

Now, I don't know what sentiment to include, so if anyone has a suggestion, that would be fabulous. Generally, I put something cutesy: 'sweet pea' with the pea stamp, for example, or 'best of the bunch' with the carrot stamp. Ideas welcome!

7.06.2011

cloudy

One Layer Wednesday this week is about clouds (one of my favorite things), so I had to participate! I decided to go for a sympathy card, using the monster I carved:

Because I'm such a perfectionist, I might see about carving some stamps to have a 'blank' cloud and 'blank' sun on hand... plus it would go a little faster, if I were to make several.

5.27.2011

feline

This week's OLW is all about cats and dogs. I decided to go the digital route for this particular challenge, and will get some cards printed from my online photo site, leaving the inside blank to fill in.

The font is called Cry Kitty. Thanks to Rhonda for providing the photo of her Posie!

5.13.2011

sweet home

The best thing about One-Layer Wednesday is the ease of the challenge (sometimes), as you're not allowed a lot of 'fluff' in your design. This week I actually was inspired and created the following house card:

Now, I must admit, I don't completely love this, but perhaps a bit of tinkering is in order. For example, the hello part is green to simulate grass--I can try adding more grass somehow along with the sentiment. Or maybe I'm not thrilled with my color choices. Anyway. There it is.

1.24.2011

sentiments

So the challenge for One Layer Wednesday this past week was to use more than one sentiment on your card and no images. Well, I'm not going to get around to doing this one, but wanted to show you the inspiration I had planned on using, as it's quite nifty:

Cool, huh? I've been seeing a lot of masking going on in the stamping/scrapping blogs these days, so it must be having a revival. This idea would have been perfect for that. Maybe I'll still do it, just not in time for the challenge.

10.29.2010

b&w+r

I decided to go with the One Layer Wednesday challenge this week, rather than the Daring Cardmakers (sorry, guys!), as I'm really supposed to be getting ready for some upcoming library stuff...

So the challenge is to make a card that's black and white and red (and, of course, one layer):

And have you heard? Stamp n' Stitch is giving away free thank you cards! We want to give Thanksgiving (that American holiday that's sandwiched between two of the biggest retail holidays) a fair shake, so with every order, you get a thank you card.

10.08.2010

metallic

So I recently discovered another challenge that I like, but haven't had a chance to participate yet... until now! It's called One Layer Wednesday (here's the original post) and you're not allowed to bling out your card with lots of layers and embellishments.

Some day, I'd like to catch up and make all the challenges from the past, but for now, I have another Christmas card design to show you that fits the challenge of including 'heavy metal' on the card:

The tree is embossed with gold, which is hard to see in the picture. I also drew a little extra gold on the 'm' and the 'c' in the sentiment.

Like it? Packs will be available in the shop!
