11.12.13 Cool

Cute little day number today "11.12.13" :o)
I guess the next one will be December 13th on next year? 12.13.14? And then we will have to amuse ourselves with something else, like the digital clocks or something lol

Well, in honor of this special occasion, I made a little editing on one of my paintings:

This is one part of the projects of my new class. I am still working on a few details, that's why I have not been as active online, and I miss you guys!
I finished the one awesome project for the SoulFood Class, which will open in January and mine will air in February.
Now I am finishing this one which will probably air earlier than the other one, and it is a "solo" class see the video HERE

Thanks for visiting!

April 11, 2013

Well then...

Some days are so frustrating! yesterday was one of those days... too many little annoying things to mention, and no internet connection. I just kept telling myself "this is nothing, this is nothing."

I decided to dedicate the time to paint and plan projects and better yet, take a video! I had everything settled down, clicked to start and after a few minutes puff! The battery died. And of course I am using the camera that uses a rechargeable battery. Which takes like 3 hours to recharge. ლ(ಠ_ಠლ)  agh!
So I got the other camera, went to get ready for another painting and I cut my finger with something invisible. lol I have no idea what it was! But a chunk of flesh was missing from my index and it hurt a lot! Well then!
I decided to take a deep breath and do something else.

At night the stars were better aligned I think, because everything went smoother. With a bandaged index I started a new page in my art journal and today I finished it, the video will come soon (hopefully!)

Dream!
Update: Thanks for all your comments! My finger healed after 2 days, just a little red dot now ♥ The video is HERE

I hope your day is beautiful and harmonious.

Face in the World

After doing the 29 faces challenge, many people were sad to see the end, so as a last minute I came up with an even crazier idea lol
I giuess some people call it Round-robin, other call it collaborations. You get the idea.
I called this "Face in the World".
Make one face among a group of people, but several groups going at the same time. FOr this occasion I only have past participants of the 29 faces. 5 people per team, 3 International teams and 1 US domestic.
The started original piece has to be no larger than 8x10 and no smaller than 5x7.
Any compatible media, any style, but it has to have a face on it, and has to be shipped to the next team member after a week of landing in our hands.

Watch the fun as it develops!!

It is hard to stop

After all the days of the challenge, I find it now hard to stop. I am enjoying the lose brush finish in this series of paintings!
I am calling this one "Flamenco dancer"

Somehow it reminded me of the video of "Boy with a coin" from Iron and Wine:

I hope you are having a great weekend!

Chat and Time for a Giveaway!

This month I'm celebrating 7 years of almost constant blabbering, I mean blogging!
It's been a long, fun, sometimes irritating (when the computer acts up) ride.
The first few post were far in between. I figured, having 3 readers and one of them being my cat, it was ok to skip days or weeks without showing up.  (◠‿◠)

I have a wonderful group of blog friends now; we share giggles, art and bits of our daily lives. And one of the things I enjoy most is helping people, or bumping into blogs with the help I need at any given moment, so I will start posting more tutorials on blogging, and art stuff. After all, in my opinion, that's what the internet is all about. Well that, and online shopping! And cat videos. And forwarding inspiring quotes and funny jokes. And... ok, you get the point.

Now, for the giveaway! update winners HERE

I am going to give away 7 hand made goodies.
5 small artworks for domestic/international mailing, and 2 large/bulgy paintings for the US only. Sorry about that my friends, but I don't want to deal with paper forms and a crazy shipping fee to an unexpected place like Timbuktu. But absolutely EVERYONE from any country can participate!

To Play:
* Grab the blog button, Share with everyone, the more the merrier!
* Post, tweet, FB, share in yahoo groups, Pinterest... anywhere you want to share,
* Then just come and tell me in this post that you want to be added.

*  AND Tell me which gift number you like best to win, so chances are you will get that one!
          1- (2 ACEO) chicken, & pencil portrait
          2- (2 ACEO) Monalisa & Blond girl
3- (2 ACEO) Hands with hearts
          4- Skelly paper doll
5- 6x9 girl with clay pot painting
6- Wood Frida Kahlo mini painting (just US)

Update: I just added a Linky Follow Widget,  for those who want to join my blog but are not in blogspot (by now you know they changed their system in a way that the blogger widget doesn't let you follow if you use other blog site) So... just add yourself and will get the updates!

Woman with braids and 3 ACEO

Here are some pictures of the woman with braids and pots. I made her very colorful! She deserved a lot of attention after sitting unfinished for such a long time :o)

I am also working on 3 ACEOs for the Earth Day challenge in Pam's blog:

I better hurry and finish them!

More images after the brake....

Finished the Modigliani's lady

And here she is....
As close a replica as I can do. The challenge for me is to do a similar painting, since I am so bad at following instructions, or replicate styles.

To see past WIP posts click HERE and HERE

tip: Do you want to watermark your photos? Download the awesome program picture shark! I was missing it so bad when I lost all my computer stuff, now I have it back ♥

When I finish this challenge I will be having a giveaway so keep an eye open :o)

WIP angel and another challenge!

Here's the finished little angel. I was going to make it like my little statue, looking like rough stone, but I didn't like it, so I gave it more human skin tones. I love the background color! It's fluid acrylic and medium, so it is really slippery and translucent. The scanner can't quite capture the look of it.

This month, I will be working on Modigliany.
It's All About Mo  Not "me", mo!

Want to play with me? Here's the plan:
*You will select 4 paintings of Modigliany.  See some HERE It doesn't matter that 15 people do the same, and only one does another. Each person picks the four they like best.
*You will work each week in ONE painting, so you have 7 days to sketch, layer, paint, repaint... and finish.
*Based on his work, with your twist. Or if you want to go as close as you can, that's fine too.
*Post at the end of the week, which by now will be less than 7 days, but let's say every weekend. Easy piece lemon peasy.

Modigliani has beautiful complicated but simple backgrounds. Many of his portraits have long necks and show eyes with no definition of iris and ball.... so frustrating for an obsessive eye-person like me, but so mysterious!

No one is asking for perfection... just have fun and discover something new in you. Make it yours, the challenge is to enjoy it.
UPDATE It is perfectly fine to copy the masters as an exercise, to improve or technique or to practice. But It is not ok to copy any image to sell, that is infringement of copyright as we all know, but I wanted to  take note here :o)

Come grab the challenge button if you want it, in the side of the blog. (Copy text, paste in a html/java gadget)
Let's see where our brushes take us!

Day 20 and fun stuff!

This is my face number 20, made in a restaurant paper place mat. Over the weekend we went to San Diego. I had to retouch digitally because the back was brown with letters "Old Spaghetti Factory" and it showed :oP:

Oh, let me tell you something before I keep going about the art stuff... in a blog I read recently, (I will comeback with the link later, I don't have it handy now) they were talking about some "love locks" they have all over Europe's bridges, where they get a lock with the names of the couple, and they leave them in there, with no key. I thought that was so cute... well what do you know I saw the same thing here!
This was not a bridge, but was just as romantic, locks with names all over the fence... we will go back and leave or lock there too ♥

we took this pic

Day 10, another doggy

This is Burt. He went to heaven last December. But he lived a long and happy life, and now he will be remembered with this painting as well.

I can't believe I completely forgot last night when I started the background, and today to take pictures while painting! But that's what happens when I get too much into it, I don't think of cameras etc. So I don't have any in progress pics, but it is the same as in last post. I even used the same palette. Ochre, raw umber, white, blue and green, and red for the collar.
For some reason, pet's eyes are harder for me to do than humans.
The  angle and proportions are a bit funky, but I think in general, it still resembles the little Chi dog?

And my kid's face of the day, inspired on a video of a weird song called Rocketship she saw in Futurama; a sock puppet martian....?

29 faces challenge

I love leap years! Since this year February has 29 days, I will be celebrating it doing something fun... do you want to join me?
29 faces in February! Why? Because we love to paint, sketch, illustrate and draw!
Any face... any medium, any size, any technique. 29 pieces total.

I have been thinking about how to run this, and I think the best way is to link in blogs, and also in Facebook, for those that like it there. I will be twitting as well.

I will add an easy way to grab the button to be part of it. Check the left column to find it. To take it to your blog just copy the text box there, and in your blog get a "html/java gadget" and paste the text there. That's it.

UPDATE: Post every face in your blog, every day in February, even if it is not finished, that's OK. Add a label to the post "29 faces" so all those posts will be gathered (when people click on that tag/label) Click in my "29 faces" tab in the upper menu, and follow instructions on how to add your link, so people click from here and see all your 29-faces-posts.

Now you have to be ready for February!  Use all those art supplies!
*Just made a FB event, let me know if you want to be added there!

Modonna painting

I finished this Madonna, with her closed eyes and a golden sun. The texture is very pronounced. This is one of the first stages:

Although I made it darken with washes, there's still some flashes of bright wild color here and there, the scanned image looks brighter than the painting itself:

And a  detail of the texture:

The background? ... The hair?

There's a couple of changes in the painting but I have to say, I am still not feeling it. (-_-) I think I overworked it, and somehow, somewhere I took the wrong direction.
Here's with hair:

And here's with some changes in the background, and I worked on her mouth in a way that she is smiling:

The colors are sweet and dreamy, but there's something missing and I'm not sure what it is. Maybe the hair.
Well, I have more paintings to scan so I will be working on those.
