Sam's Baptism
Well, after mentally planning this day for the last 10 years, it went off without a hitch! Saturday, June 13, 2009 was a very special day for us. It took Sam a long time to be willing to be baptized and we patiently waited. I've spent countless hours getting ready and we had such a great day. I knew we would have a lot of people and we did...at least 100 came to support Sam. We had quite a diverse range of religions represented as well...Baptist, Catholic and Church of England to name a few. I really wanted it to be a good experience for those not of our faith. I hope it was. The program went as follows:
Conducting: Bishop Sherman Moore
Chorister: Sara Foskey
Pianist: Jennifer Moore
Opening Song: "I Am a Child of God"
Opening Prayer: Todd Weinreb
Baptism Talk: Kim Weinreb
Musical Number: "Teach Me to Walk in the Light" played by Abby Weinreb (piano)
The Baptism of Sam Weinreb by Randy Whiting (uncle)
Video Presentation: I Am Sam (see post above for video)
Talk on Holy Ghost: Marilyn Turbyfield
Confirmation of Sam Weinreb: Bishop Sherman Moore
Closing Remarks: Bishop Sherman Moore
Musical Number: "If the Savior Stood Beside Me"
by Abby Weinreb, Abby Moore & Carly Foskey (two out of the 3 were "toothless")
Closing Prayer: Sam Weinreb
After the service, we went to the cultural hall and had refreshments and we had quite a spread: Chick-Fil-A nuggets & chicken salad sandwiches, fruit, veggie trays, brownies, cream puffs, eclairs, grapes, crackers & cheese, brownies, hummus with pita chips, peanut butter cookies, chips & salsa. Yum!
The whole event was wonderful and I had so many people help. It was a very spiritual and emotional experience for me. Every milestone is late for Sam but it eventually comes and we are grateful for that.
Randy's visit
My cute little brother Randy came out to visit and be here for Sam's baptism. Sam is named after Randy so it was really special to have him here.
The photo above is at Mary Mac's Tea Room. Very southern food and everything is fried but it is so yummy! An older lady runs the place and she walks throughout the restaurant giving back rubs to all the customers. Abby is the only one who said "no thanks" to the free back rub. Perhaps it's a southern thing. Randy also tried Pot Likker with cracklin' bread. You get a little free sample if it's your first time visiting Mary Mac's. I though Pot Likker was a word that my Gpa make up but it's actually collard greens in broth with a corn muffin. Who knew?!
I took Randy to Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield. This is a photo of a mine that was dug out to help fight during the Civil War. It's so sobering to walk where thousands of people have died. During the month of June in 1864, over 5000 people died at this particular place
Here we are at Sweetwater Creek State Park. It's a great local recreation spot with a historical background. A textile mill was built with slave labor and it was burned during the Civil War.
Randy is such a great little brother. He has always been the peacemaker in our family. He is funny, cute, outgoing, a great husband to Heather and daddy to 3 darling little kids. I am so glad he took the time and effort to come for a visit. We had fun eating too much, playing Wii, hiking, eating, playing cricket, watching and being scared by a summer thunder storm, talking late, eating, discussing politics, playing basketball..and did I mention eating?
Love you Randy!
